Out Of The Shadows
At six-foot-three and two-hundred-fifty pounds, Fane is a natural born guardian. A flawless mix of muscled perfection and steely precision, he has devoted years of his life to protecting a beautiful necromancer. But after she found love in the arms of another, Fane has been a warrior adrift. He swears allegiance only to the Sentinels. And no woman will ever rule his heart again. . .
Into The Fire
Not only a powerful psychic, Serra is that rare telepath who can connect to minds through objects. When the daughter of a high-blood businessman is kidnapped, Serra agrees to help. But when she stumbles onto a conspiracy involving secrets sects and ancient relics, her life is in mortal danger--and Fane is her only hope. Is the warrior willing to risk his body, his soul, and his heart, for Serra? Or will one last betrayal destroy them both?
Blood Assassin is the second book in the Sentinels series and tells the story of Fane, a Sentinel and Serra, a psychic.

Now you’re probably wondering why their names sound familiar…. *drums*… That’s because we met them in the previous book. Fane used to be Callie’s guardian and Serra is Callie’s bff. What you probably don’t know though, is that Fane and Serra are hot, hot, hot, for each other. If you’ve read Born in Blood then you must surely know about their attraction.

Although, we did get a few scenes in the previous book, I never thought that these two could be so dynamic.

The book begins where the previous left off (but it isn’t very hard to follow if you want to read it as a stand-alone). Fane’s guardian bond to Callie had been severed and Fane feels like he has no other reason to stay in Valhalla and decides to leave and head to Tibet where he can train new recruits. Too bad he didn’t ask Serra’s opinion.

Serra is furious with Fane’s decision. She has always been clear about her feelings for him. Apparently, Serra can have any man she wants except for the one her heart desires. But enough is enough. Serra refuses to run after his any longer. If he thinks that he can live without her then she’s better off alone. Or so she thinks…

Fane’s on his way to leave Valhalla when he realizes that Serra’s missing.

Serra has been compelled to leave Valhalla. She may not know her destination but she knows that when she arrives, blood will be shed (hint: it’s not going to be hers.)

When Fane follows Serra to Kansas City, he’s on the verge of killing Bas, the assassin who compelled Serra into going to him, when he finds out that killing him would mean killing Serra. In order to ensure Serra’s cooperation Bas had to poison Serra with a toxin that only he has the cure of. Molly, Bas’s four year old daughter has been kidnapped and since he refuses to pay the kidnapper (don’t get his wrong, he loves his daughter but to pay the kidnapper’s price would mean the end of the world as we know it) he will need the help of a psychic to find her.

So, Serra and Fane’s journey begins. They know that if they fail, the price will be too high to pay and Fane knows that he’s not ready for that.

5 whole stars! This was an incredible book. I loved everything about it. The plot, the characters, the “journey”. Everything! After reading the book, I also realized that the blurb was totally misleading. It made you think that Fane was in love with Callie while the truth is that Fane card for Callie like a brother cares for his sister. Serra was the only woman who touched his heart. It was amazing witnessing the lengths one’s willing to go to save the person he loves.

Blood Assassin is also one of those books that make you realize that the villain isn’t always the bad guy. Bas wasn’t a bad guy. Sure he was the threat hanging over Serra’s head but he only cared for his daughter. His own story was unique and I really can’t wait to find out more about it. Especially if it includes Myst (which I think it will since the last pages of the book hinted about it). Really excited!!!

I also loved Wolfe and Lana’s (the Mave has a name!!!) relationship (if it can be called that). I’m not sure if they are meant for each other but they surely know how to push each other’s buttons.

Last but not least, we get a preview of Darkness Ends *squee* (the whole first chapter actually). This is Fallon and Cyn’s story and I don’t think I’m the only one who’s excited about it!

Blood Assassin was an action packed book with a lot supernatural creatures, an alpha-hero, a strong determined heroine and a HEA.

Highly recommended!

Review: Born in Blood (The Sentinels #1) by Alexandra Ivy

Title: Born in Blood
Author: Alexandra Ivy
Series: The Sentinels #1

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Sergeant Duncan O’Conner has seen it all before. A beautiful erotic dancer is found murdered in her home—no suspect, no motive. But there’s one clue: she’s missing her heart. It’s enough to make the hard-bitten Kansas City cop enlist the help of a necro—one of the dead-channeling freaks who live in the domed city of nearby Valhalla. It’s a long shot, but desperate crimes call for desperate measures.

Unlike the other “high-bloods” in Valhalla, Callie Brown considers her abilities a gift, not a curse. But when she reads the dancer’s final thoughts, she senses a powerful presence blocking her vision. This is no ordinary homicide. This is the work of a legendary necromancer who controls souls. A ravenous force that will put Callie’s skills to the test, O’Conner’s career at risk, and both their hearts on the line…literally.
Alexandra Ivy is one of my favorite authors, so when I found out about this new series of hers, I knew I had to read it. For some strange reason though, I had completely forgotten about it until recently when I saw the second book at NetGalley (which of course I thankfully requested).

Born In Blood is set in this completely new world where humans and supernaturals co-exist. Humans are not only aware of them but most importantly they know what each species can do. That was very surprised since usually in the paranormal books I read humans are either in the dark about them or they just know that they exist. They never know what they are capable of or how strong they really are.

Callie Brown is a diviner, aka a necromancer, who has the ability to enter the mind of a person who has been recently murdered and find out the one responsible for their murder. As a diviner, she’s under the protection of the Mave (the leader of all the supernatural creatures and of course the strongest of all) and thus she’s always protected by a Sentinel. When she’s needed at a crime scene, Callie arrives only to realize that this is not an ordinary case and it’s not because of the sexy cop she can’t get out of her mind but because of another diviner stronger than her.

Meet Duncan. Duncan is a cop who loves his job. Despite what other believe, Duncan may not be the supernatural’s biggest fan but he surely recognizes their importance. Sometimes humans need all the help they can get. His partners may think that Callie is a freak but to Duncan, she’s the biggest challenge he ever got. She’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen, simply irresistible. So when he realizes that Callie is in danger, the only thing he wants is to protect her. Too bad she already has a guardian…

Born in Blood was so different from the other books I’ve read by Alexandra Ivy. She has created this whole new world and characters. I really loved that. Duncan and Callie were an amazing couple but there were times that their relationship seemed unreal. Duncan was so sweet and compassionate at times that made me wonder “is he for real?” besides that and the fact that their relationship progressed super fast, I had no other problem with them. They were two people who wanted to find happiness, to love and to be loved.

The plot was…ok. It wasn’t as great as I thought it would be but it didn’t disappoint either. I think that the fact that I’m in love with the Guardians of Eternity has definitely affected my opinion of this book .

What I loved was the secondary characters: Fane and Serra, Wolfe and the Mave (which is a woman btw) and a woman named Myst (she doesn’t have a big role in the book, we only get a scene, but having read the second book, I can tell you that she’s definitely important).

Another great book by Alexandra Ivy!

Totally recommended!
