Book Tour ~ Excerpt, Review & Giveaway: The Fall Up by Aly Martinez

Posted on Thursday, October 29, 2015 2:53 PM

the fall up book tour.jpg

Maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall

in love at rock bottom—up.

the fall up cover ebook.jpg
I wanted to jump.
He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

“Thank fuck!” Sam said, swinging the door open before Devon even had the car in park.

“Oh, this isn’t my place. We’re just dropping Devon off. I’m about twenty minutes across town?” I tossed him a sugary smile then boldly shifted my hand into his lap, purposely brushing the bulge under his denim.

Grabbing my wrist, he narrowed his eyes and called out, “Devon, I’m gonna need to borrow a bedroom.”

I burst out laughing as Devon cursed loudly.

“Fine. This is my place. No smoking inside though,” I snipped as I climbed from the SUV.

“You better have some seriously exciting extracurricular activities to keep me distracted, then.”

“I have Ping-Pong!”

“Not exactly what I was thinking.” He mischievously cocked his head. “But I guess paddles and balls are as good a start as any.” Dipping down, he hoisted me over his shoulder. “Point me to the Ping-Pong table, my lady.”

I didn’t. I laughed hysterically as he carried me inside. Then I directed him to my bedroom instead.

I heard Devon locking up the house as Sam deposited me on the bed.

“Jesus. This view.” He pushed the curtains back. “Why the hell would you ever go up to the bridge when you have this here?”

“I don’t know,” I answered, pulling my earrings off and placing them on my nightstand.

Oh, but I knew. It might not have been what had originally sent me up that bridge, but it was why my feet carried me back every night. And that very reason was currently standing in front of me with entirely too much clothing on.

“You want a beer?” I asked, sliding my shoes off.

“Nah, I’m good.” He faced me, and I could tell something was off with his demeanor. He didn’t inch any closer. Instead, his lips were tight and his eyes uncomfortably flashed around the room.

It suddenly didn’t feel like Sam standing in front of me at all.

He felt like a stranger who had just come face-to-face with Levee Williams.

Damn it.

“Why are you looking at me like that? Are you about to freak out?” I whispered, nervously moistening my lips.

He shoved his hands into his pockets. “I’m not really sure yet. But I’m gonna need you to stop licking your lips long enough for me to figure it out.” His mouth cracked into a wide grin, and my shoulders relaxed.

Now that was a flash of my Sam.

“Want to tell me what’s going on?” I asked.

“It’s just… I think this is the first time I’ve realized that you’re some big-time celebrity. I might be in over my head here, Designer Shoes.”

“I just make music, Sam.” I returned his smile and very slowly prowled in his direction. “Imagine how I feel though. You’re Samuel Nathan Rivers. A tough, tattooed furniture designer who makes six figures a year but is too afraid to tell his mommy he votes democratic.” I giggled as he frowned humorously. Stopping in front of him, I dragged a fingernail down his chest then teased the waistband of his jeans. “Have you considered that maybe I’m the one who’s in over her head here?” I leaned forward to nip at his lips, but he spun us around.

“Excellent point. I’m going to need you to try really hard to keep it together, Levee. You haven’t even seen my six-pack and huge cock, yet.” He smirked and attempted to return my nip, but I stepped out of his reach.

“You brought beer and chicken?” I feigned excitement.

That one corny joke was all it took to bring my Sam back completely.

With a sexy smile and a coy shrug, he seductively backed me toward the bed. “What can I say? I like to be prepared.”

“Clearly,” I breathed.

He moved in close so his lips were only a centimeter away, but for as much as I wanted him, it was agonizing. “Clearly,” he repeated, his smoky yet sweet breath breezing across my mouth.

His strong arm looped around my waist, tugging me against his chest, while I stared into his hooded eyes, eagerly waiting for him to make a move.

Any move.

Every move.

Please just take an hour (or more) to admire the mid blowing cover! I have no idea what’s going on in the “book cover industry?” (Is there such thing?) but I swear book covers get better and better.

When I signed up to get an ARC of this book I did so because of the author and because how emotional her books always are. So my point is that when I requested an ARC, there wasn’t even a cover yet but two weeks later I get this book with a mind blowing cover on my kindle and I can’t stop staring at it. I knew that I had to actually read the book but I couldn’t because the cover had mesmerized me. So when I started reading it and got to the point where the cover finally makes sense, I was blown away!

Pop star princess, Levee Williams has everything a woman could want but she’s far from happy. That’s why she’s standing on the edge of a San Francisco bridge talking with a tattooed hottie stranger, Sam Rivers.

Sam has already lost too much on that bridge and if there is anything he can do to help this woman then he will damn well do it.

Sam and Levee were so much fun. Their emotions were all over the place but together they healed each other. Levee had to first acknowledge her problems which was really hard for her to do but with Sam’s guidance she accepted the help she needed.

The fall up was a magnificent book. I was completely taken by it. I loved the plot, the characters and the cover. I loved everything!

WAITING ON WEDNESDAY #64 Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

Posted on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 7:51 PM
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released.

Title: Corrupt
Series: None

Expected publication: November 17th 2015

I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.

His name is Michael Crist.

My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.

But I noticed him.
I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.

Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.

Because he’s finally noticed me.

Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.
My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.

Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.

In my city.

The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.

We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.
What are you waiting on Wednesday?

ARC Review: Edge of Danger (Deadly Ops #4) by Katie Reus

Posted on Monday, October 26, 2015 9:46 PM
Title: Edge of Danger
Author: Katie Reus
Series: Deadly Ops #4

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
When an assassin tries to kill undercover DEA agent Tucker Pankov the same week his boss is taken out, Tucker has good reason to be paranoid. And when other members of his elite team are not only targeted, but stripped of top-secret security clearance, Tucker has one shot at discovering who wants them dead—and why. So he kidnaps the only woman he thinks can save them.
Brilliant NSA analyst Karen Stafford doesn’t like being forced into anything, especially by someone she doesn’t trust. Yet after a hijacked US-owned drone starts attacking government installations resulting in mass casualties, Karen has to take Tucker’s side. Now, two unlikely allies must unite to prevent an escalating and unthinkable terrorist conspiracy. But as Tucker and Karen grow intimate, they realize the conspiracy runs deep, and their enemies are closer than anyone realized.
When his boss is murdered and his team framed for terrorist attacks, undercover DEA agent Tucker Pankov knows it’s time to act. After the hit on his tem, Tucker must carefully choose who to trust to help them. There is just one man that their boss really trusted so Tucker has only one shot to clear their names. But to get to this man, they will have to go through his assistant.

NSA analyst Karen Stafford can’t understand why a bunch of criminals abducted her and are insisting to contact her boss. Especially the one who calls himself Tucker since she knows that he is a notorious murderer. They are trying to convince her that they are DEA agents and the more evidence they provide the more she’s beginning to question the information she’s been given at the agency. When the Media blame Tucker’s team for a murder she’s sure they can’t have committed since they were with her at the time, Karen takes matters at her own hands.

I really liked Edge of Danger. From page one we are taken into a world of deception, lies and a world where the good guys seem to be the bad guys. Tucker and his team are patriots who have served their country and continue to do so despite the accusations against them. They didn’t really want to kidnap Karen but they had no other choice. When Tucker and Karen finally get to spend time together they are taken aback from their attraction between them. Karen is the woman who’s about to turn his world upside down. But their attraction is a challenge they will both have to win as Karen’s loyalties are questioned and Tucker’s future isn’t looking that bright.

The fourth book in the Deadly Ops series is full of non-stop action, suspense and romance. Tucker and Karen were great protagonists and I hope we get to see more of them in the next books but what I really want to know is who is next. I hope it’s someone from Tucker’s team. They were all great and I really wish to read their stories.

WAITING ON WEDNESDAY #63 Appealed (The Legal Briefs #3) by Emma Chase

Posted on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 3:30 PM
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released.

Title: Appealed
Author: Emma Chase

Expected publication: November 17th 2015

When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn’t see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman…who wants to crush the most intimate—and prized—parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.
When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue–worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.
But she’s not a lovesick social outcast anymore—she’s a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it’s time to put him through a little hell of his own.
But things aren’t exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more—and makes her wonder if he’s as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end, they may just find themselves in love…or in contempt of court.
What are you waiting on Wednesday?

TOP TEN TUESDAY #53 10 Wishes I'd Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me

Posted on 3:29 PM
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme brought to you by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new Top Ten list topic is posted and book bloggers fill in their own choices.

This Week's Topics is:

10 Wishes I'd Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me

1. A Beauty and the Beast kind of library!

2. Give life to all the amazing book characters I love
(kind of like the InkHeart)

3. To be able to travel inside books (be part of the story - not a main character- just on the sidelines so I could watch the main characters and their adventures)

4. Travel to the future to read all the books I haven't read and ones that I won't be able to read (I won't live forever and books are going to be written even after I die so I definitely don't want to miss any, especially a series- the horror!)

5. Give authors the ability to write faster those mind blowing books!

6. Meet all of my favorite authors!

7. See the most brilliant libraries all over the world.

Yeah. This is the Book Genie so all of my wishes are book related. I just hope the genie to be able to grant them all :)

What 10 wishes would you ask the book genie to grant you?

Review: Sustained (The Legal Briefs #2) by Emma Chase

Posted on Monday, October 19, 2015 10:16 PM
Title: Sustained
Author: Emma Chase
Series: The Legal Briefs #2

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.
When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.
Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.
Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I'm going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal's office.
Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.
And that — that, I know how to do.
When I picked up this book, I did so without even reading the blurb. This is the first book I read by Emma Chase and I’m really impressed wither talent. I’d like to point out that this is the second book in the Legal Briefs series but it can definitely be read as a standalone. I haven’t still read the first book but if it’s anything like this one then go read it.

Sustained was nothing like I expected it to be, I thought it was going to be an adult romance which it was but it had so many other things going on. Jake is a criminal defense attorney and everything a parent shouldn’t be. Jake strives to make a name for himself in his field and thus he tries to keep his life as uncomplicated as he can. So when Chelsea Quaid comes into his life, Jake knows he should run as fast and as far as possible only he can’t seem to be able to get away.

When Chelsea’s brother and his wife unexpectedly die in a car accident, Chelsea finds herself responsible for their six children. Her nieces and nephews, aged from 6 months to 14 years old, are all she has and she’s not going to abandon them. Chelsea leaves her old life behind to fend for these little devils. When her life crosses with Jake’s there’s an instant attraction between them and they are willing to explore it if they find time.

As time passes, Jake finds himself dealing with situations he swore he never would and when the pressure of his new life becomes too much, Jake wants out.

Sustained was nothing like I expected it. I thought it was going to be an adult romance, which it was but it had so many other things going on. The book progresses slowly but steadily and there is no chance you will find yourself bored with 6 kids running around. Unfortunately (for me) the book is only from Jake’s point of view so we didn’t get to see what Chelsea felt. I was impressed by the author’s ability to portray Jake so well and although I was a bit frustrated for not getting dual POVs, I got over it because Jake hid nothing. He was a good guy but he was a jerk in the beginning. I had no problem with him having personal issues it only made him more realistic.

All in all, I loved Sustained. It was a pleasant surprise, light, realistic, very funny and romantic. We also got to see Sofia and Stanton from book one, Overruled and bits and pieces of Brent. If you’re in for some fun and romance, go read it.

With her, it was like emergency flares mixed with jet fuel. Or maybe just straight up napalm. Only one problem. She wouldn't tell me her name or her number when she disappeared from the hotel room after the hottest fucking night of my life.
Now I've had a taste of unicorn pussy—the sweetest, rarest of all pussy—and I need it again. So what's an asshole to do? I took this problem to the street. A missed connection gone viral. And when I find her? I'm keeping her.
