Out Of The ShadowsBlood Assassin is the second book in the Sentinels series and tells the story of Fane, a Sentinel and Serra, a psychic.
At six-foot-three and two-hundred-fifty pounds, Fane is a natural born guardian. A flawless mix of muscled perfection and steely precision, he has devoted years of his life to protecting a beautiful necromancer. But after she found love in the arms of another, Fane has been a warrior adrift. He swears allegiance only to the Sentinels. And no woman will ever rule his heart again. . .
Into The Fire
Not only a powerful psychic, Serra is that rare telepath who can connect to minds through objects. When the daughter of a high-blood businessman is kidnapped, Serra agrees to help. But when she stumbles onto a conspiracy involving secrets sects and ancient relics, her life is in mortal danger--and Fane is her only hope. Is the warrior willing to risk his body, his soul, and his heart, for Serra? Or will one last betrayal destroy them both?
Now you’re probably wondering why their names sound familiar…. *drums*… That’s because we met them in the previous book. Fane used to be Callie’s guardian and Serra is Callie’s bff. What you probably don’t know though, is that Fane and Serra are hot, hot, hot, for each other. If you’ve read Born in Blood then you must surely know about their attraction.
Although, we did get a few scenes in the previous book, I never thought that these two could be so dynamic.
The book begins where the previous left off (but it isn’t very hard to follow if you want to read it as a stand-alone). Fane’s guardian bond to Callie had been severed and Fane feels like he has no other reason to stay in Valhalla and decides to leave and head to Tibet where he can train new recruits. Too bad he didn’t ask Serra’s opinion.
Serra is furious with Fane’s decision. She has always been clear about her feelings for him. Apparently, Serra can have any man she wants except for the one her heart desires. But enough is enough. Serra refuses to run after his any longer. If he thinks that he can live without her then she’s better off alone. Or so she thinks…
Fane’s on his way to leave Valhalla when he realizes that Serra’s missing.
Serra has been compelled to leave Valhalla. She may not know her destination but she knows that when she arrives, blood will be shed (hint: it’s not going to be hers.)
When Fane follows Serra to Kansas City, he’s on the verge of killing Bas, the assassin who compelled Serra into going to him, when he finds out that killing him would mean killing Serra. In order to ensure Serra’s cooperation Bas had to poison Serra with a toxin that only he has the cure of. Molly, Bas’s four year old daughter has been kidnapped and since he refuses to pay the kidnapper (don’t get his wrong, he loves his daughter but to pay the kidnapper’s price would mean the end of the world as we know it) he will need the help of a psychic to find her.
So, Serra and Fane’s journey begins. They know that if they fail, the price will be too high to pay and Fane knows that he’s not ready for that.
5 whole stars! This was an incredible book. I loved everything about it. The plot, the characters, the “journey”. Everything! After reading the book, I also realized that the blurb was totally misleading. It made you think that Fane was in love with Callie while the truth is that Fane card for Callie like a brother cares for his sister. Serra was the only woman who touched his heart. It was amazing witnessing the lengths one’s willing to go to save the person he loves.
Blood Assassin is also one of those books that make you realize that the villain isn’t always the bad guy. Bas wasn’t a bad guy. Sure he was the threat hanging over Serra’s head but he only cared for his daughter. His own story was unique and I really can’t wait to find out more about it. Especially if it includes Myst (which I think it will since the last pages of the book hinted about it). Really excited!!!
I also loved Wolfe and Lana’s (the Mave has a name!!!) relationship (if it can be called that). I’m not sure if they are meant for each other but they surely know how to push each other’s buttons.
Last but not least, we get a preview of Darkness Ends *squee* (the whole first chapter actually). This is Fallon and Cyn’s story and I don’t think I’m the only one who’s excited about it!
Blood Assassin was an action packed book with a lot supernatural creatures, an alpha-hero, a strong determined heroine and a HEA.
Highly recommended!
