Title: Dark Protector
Author: Katie Reus
Series: Moon Shifter #6

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
He walked away once; he won't do it again.Wolf shifter Aldric Kazan is no stranger to pain. Since the loss of his mate a century ago, he won't allow himself to fall for someone again—not even the feisty female who stirs things in him that he thought were gone long ago. But as a supernatural investigator, he's forced to team up with the same woman he vowed to stay away from.
She let him in once; she refuses to do it again.Natalia Cordona refuses to back down from any challenge—even if it means joining forces with Aldric, the sexy and brooding man who won't get too close. Locating missing vampires before a volatile war breaks out seems nearly impossible as the duo struggle with their explosive and undeniable attraction. Now it's up to Natalia and Aldric to trust each other to stop an all-out war from breaking out that would destroy the harmony they've all worked so hard for.
Dark Protector tells the story of Aldric, Jayce’s brother and Natalia Kordona.

After violently losing his mate, Aldric has completely secluded himself until he comes across his brother, Jayce, and his new pack mates. Aldric and Natalia met in the previous book and their chemistry was off the records. However, Aldric was still mourning for his mate and ignored what his wolf was trying to tell him. Now, Natalia wants nothing to do with him but a mission will bring them together no matter what they want.

Aldric and Natalia were one stubborn couple. Aldric would rather suffer alone than be hurt again but neither Natalia nor Jayce are willing to let him alone. Natalia knows not to push him but time is against them and they will have to work together or face a war.

I really liked Dark protector! It was not just Aldric and Natalia’s story. We got to see Aldric’s healing journey and his reconciliation with his brother as well, which I really liked.

ARC Review: Consolation Prize by Linda Kage!!

5 "Sweet" Stars!!

Title: Consolation Prize
Author: Linda Kage
Series: (Forbidden Men #9)

     Amazon | Kobo | iBooks | B&N

Don't you just hate it when someone destroys all your carefully made plans?
I mean, I had goals: college to graduate in one semester, a future I was working hard to reach, and an image of myself I wanted the world to see. My life was stacked into these precisely placed blocks. But then Colton Gamble came along and knocked them all askew.
I hated how he messed everything up, how he could hog all my attention whenever he was around, how he made my pulse quicken--but only because he ticked me off...not because I was attracted to him. Oh! And I hated how he knew how attractive he was too, the shallow, full of himself, doesn't take no for an answer, too-flirty, too cocky, extremely irritating jerk.
The boy had all the qualities that turned me off. Or so I thought.

One night he wasn't quite the brainless, over-confident jerk I usually took him for.
One night, he took care of me when I was at my lowest. He opened up to me and made me open up to him.
Now I'm learning maybe he's not what I first thought he was. And maybe I'M not what I first thought I was. Maybe it’s okay to rearrange a couple of my perfectly set blocks. Maybe, just maybe, I’ll stop worrying about what I’m afraid everyone else will think and finally reach for something I really want. It’s possible some of my plans need to be destroyed, and Colton Gamble is exactly the kind of mess I need in my life.
What do you think? Should I give him a try?
Desperately seeking your advice,
Julianna Radcliffe

Let's get one thing clear first!! The Forbidden Men series is my absolute favorite!! No doubt!! That's because each character so far has been so well-thought and carefully-written! Even though the series consists of 9 books now, every single one of them was special! The characters are so different from one another and they've managed to find common ground to form this deep bond that everyone wishes they had!! I honestly don't know where to start!! After all this waiting, I thought I would have been prepared for it, but noooo...!! I always fall into a no-books comma after reading a Linda Kage book!! Always!!

So, yeah, about the actual book now....lol!! Consolation Prize tells the story of a boy and a girl who fall in love.
Wish that was only it! But noooo...!! Being Linda Kage, she had to put not one or two, but multiple obstacles to prevent them from getting to that point. Let’s see, there's the age thing, Julianna is FOUR years older that Colton. He thinks she's a wild, unattainable girl and she thinks he is an immature, annoying little kiddo.. He is the little brother of the guy she thinks she is in love with and she is off limits to him due to his big brother's warning! Oh, and they are of different races. She is a black girl and he is a white boy!! Not that it matters to them. It matters to everyone around them.

“Just for that, I’m going to make you cuddle.”
“Cuddle?” My eyes bulged as he crawled closer.
“Yes, cuddle,” he said. “I like to cuddle.”
My muscles clenched and limbs went tense as he climbed up right into my personal space and wrapped himself around me like a second skin.
“I…I’m not big on cuddling,” I finally admitted, my body board-stiff against him.
“Really?” He sounded surprised by that. “Well, don’t worry, by the time I’m through with you, you’ll love it.

At first they try to deny their feelings and pretend it's - what else?! - lust!! But as the story unravels, they realize they both have developed deep, soul-crushing feelings for each other! Now you might say "been there, done that",  but as I said at the beginning, Linda's characters are always so well-written and special! And Colton and Julianna's interactions were so hilarious and touching! They made this story so distinguished from the others!!

Yet I knew without a shadow of a doubt there was no way that would ever happen, because that lady right here was a ball breaker. You could tell it by the straight-backed, poised way she held herself, as if she might as well be behind a boardroom table, doling out punishments to her inferior insubordinates, and by the way she had no tolerance for stupidity or players. I swear, her stare alone could shrivel a guy’s family jewels to impotent nothingness. I usually had the itching urge to cover my junk whenever I talked to her.

At the end, they both try to overcome any fears and insecurities they have and choose to aim for happiness!!

Ultimately, Consolation Prize was the perfect story to choose to write as a conclusion to the Forbidden Men series!! I know it's not the final book in the series, but it's the last couple of the gang Linda is writing and that might have made me a bit sad!! She has managed to make me both laugh and tear up again and I appreciate and love every writer that can do that to someone with a book!! I highly recommend it! In case it wasn't clear!! :P

I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review!!

>>Excerpt<<

“Juli can’t stop staring at you tonight.”

“Juli?” That name perked me to immediate attention. “Julianna’s here?”

I followed Asher’s gaze to a dimly-lit table in the back corner that bordered the dance floor. It was empty save for one individual, one of the loveliest individuals to grace the planet.

I have no clue how she did it, but Julianna Radcliffe always managed to look equal parts disdainfully untouchable and wet-dream sexy.

Tonight, her dress was pure sin. She wore a long, strapless light gray number that had a front slit, exposing a perfectly toned leg most the way up her thigh and a bustier top that hugged proud, ample breasts. The paleness of her dress made the tone of her skin appear even darker than usual, which made my stomach knot with tension because I yearned to investigate all that dark-dark skin, see how it felt under my hands, how it tasted against my tongue, how it trembled when I stroked it.

And yet she was an irresistible challenge to idiots like me. Not just because she was model-worthy stunning, which she was. Nothing on her was ever out of place; it always struck me with the urge to mess her up…in the best ways possible. But because I felt the need to be the exception to the rule, the one who got past her defenses and scaled that impossible mountain.

Brandt groaned.

I glanced at him, forcing my brain back to the problem at hand, that being Julianna and her inability to take her eyes off my newly married brother. “Hasn’t it been months since you and she were over?” I asked, confused.

He sent me a sharp glance. “Over? We never started. There’s nothing to be over. Juli and I didn’t even finish the one date we went on.”

Asher sniffed. “Well, it looks as if she’s still willing to finish it.”

“Dammit.” Brandt glanced toward his wife. “I hope Sarah doesn’t see her watching me. I don’t want anything upsetting her on our wedding day.”

Asher shook his head. “So, why’d you even invite Juli?”

“I work with her.” Brandt moodily tugged at the collar of his tux.

It seemed odd to me that someone so classically beautiful worked in a nightclub as a bartender. To me, Julianna clearly belonged on a runway, displaying the latest fashion, or—

“It would’ve been strange to invite everyone else and leave her out. Besides, we’re still friends. She’s probably my favorite coworker.”

“Hey,” Asher muttered, offended since he occasionally bartended at Forbidden with Brandt too.

Brandt rolled his eyes. “You don’t count.”

But that only seemed to confuse Asher more. “Why don’t I count?”

Ignoring him, Brandt brought his hand up to his mouth so he could chew on his thumbnail. “We need to distract her somehow. Someone needs to...” Trailing off, he turned slowly toward me, and the intent in his gaze was pretty damn clear.

I paused mid-sip. “Wait, what? You can’t possibly want me to distract her?”

Review
This was FREAKING fantastic!

I’m a HUGE fan of the Sin Brothers series and even though I loved Total Surrender, the last book in the series, Jory’s book, I’m SUPER excited to say that it’s not over! Blood Brothers, Zanetti’s new series, is a spin off series to the Sin Brothers series and introduces a trio of brothers who are trying to survive while looking for answers.

Ryker and his brothers find the lost. When the law firm that Zara works for hires their services, Zara never expects to develop a relationship for Ryker. Yet, two months later, Ryker and Zara are still trying to understand where they stand when Ryker’s past comes back to haunt them.

Deadly Silence was freaking BRILLIANT!! *throws confetti*

Everything was amazing - the action, the suspense, the R-O-M-A-N-C-E, Ryker’s brothers, the Dean Brothers and some new and old characters! Zanetti is a GENIOUS! The brilliance of the plot will blow you away! There are some twists in the story and some HUGE surprises so be prepared! I’m not going to spoil anything but do you remember Chance, Wade and Kyle (the brothers that Piper and Jory rescue in Total Surrender)?! Well, we are not done with them yet!

The book had a lot going on and I do admit that I was a bit confused at one point but everything makes sense in the end. The blood brothers have their own missions and battles to fight but they are not alone! We get to catch up with the Dean brothers *Squee* and the whole family actually! Of course, despite all the action and missions in the book, Zara and Ryker remain the main focus and let me tell you, Zanetti does not disappoint!

Deadly Silence was perfect! Even though it is not a cliffhanger, the brothers do have unfinished business to take care of and I can’t wait for that! So, who’s next? Will it be Denver (and possible Noni?) or Heath?

Excerpt

Heat from his body washed over her, but she lifted her head to meet his gaze. “We don’t have a relationship.”

He smiled then, and the curve of his lips held more determination than amusement. “I’m not letting you run, and I’m certainly not letting you hide, baby. Although neither of us has been in this for the long haul, I’m staying in Wyoming for the moment. The first thing that’s going to happen is I’m going to figure out who dared put a hand on you and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

For the first time, she saw a side of him that gave her true pause. In the long haul, he’d be unbearably possessive. Why did that give her an intriguing sense of safety? “Knock it off,” she snapped in his face. “Get out of my business.”

That quickly, she found her back against the door and her front pinned by hard male. His hands planted on either side of her neck, his thumbs at her jaw, forcing her to look at him. “Something you need to understand and pretty damn quick is that your business is my business right now.” His thumb swept up and over the offensive bruise on her face.

“Step back.” Her voice trembled.

He ignored the very calm order. “No. You don’t want to tell me who did this? Fine. I’ll find out on my own, and I’ll have the name by the time I pick you up for supper. What you don’t want to do is deal with him or his case until I have that name. Kicking him in the balls might’ve just pissed him off more, and now you’ve let a bully stew on it for a while, which might be dangerous for you. Got it?”

“You have no right to interfere,” she whispered.

“Baby, I’ve been fuckin’ you for months. That gives me every right.” Anger glowed dark in his eyes.

“We’re done. Get out.”

His eyes softened. “You shouldn’t make statements you can’t back up.”

She shoved against his ripped abs.

He didn’t move a millimeter.

And then he did.

His head dipped, and his mouth found her neck and wandered up to her ear. His teeth scraped, and then his tongue licked the slight wound.

Of its own volition, her body did a full tremble.

He leaned back. “That.”

Her mind fuzzed.

His mouth slammed down on hers. She knew his kiss—often dreamed about it. Not soft and sweet . . . not even lustful. It was dangerous. From day one, she’d tasted danger on his tongue, and it burned her hotter than she’d ever been.

Never had she dated a bad boy, but after living her desired routine-driven life for years, she’d craved adventure, and he filled that need. He drew out a wildness she hadn’t realized she possessed.

He held her flush against the door, kissing her hard, sending a craving along her nerves that almost hurt. His tongue went to work, his left hand keeping her jaw open for him. His right hand found her hip and dragged her against the obvious bulge in his jeans. By the time he released her, she’d stopped thinking completely.

“What time are you finished today?” he asked, his breath heating her face.

“Fi-five,” she stuttered.

He leaned back and gently put her to the side. “Stay in the office until I come for you at five, Zara.” He ran his thumb across her bottom lip. “Cross me on this, baby, and I ain’t gonna be gentle.” He had already shut the door behind himself before she could take a whole breath.

She blinked several times, her fingers going to her still-tingling mouth. What had just happened?

ARC Review: Blood Red Kiss by Kresley Cole, Larissa Ione & Gena Showalter

Posted on Monday, September 12, 2016 5:25 PM

Title: Blood Red Kiss
Authors: Kresley ColeLarissa Ione, Gena Showalter
Series: Immortals After Dark #1MoonBound Clan Vampires #2.5, Otherworld Assassin, #2.5

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
In Kresley Cole’s celebrated story “The Warlord Wants Forever,” the first in her scorching Immortals After Dark series, vampire warlord Nikolai Wroth will stop at nothing to claim his Bride, the one woman who can make his heart beat again. But can beautiful Myst the Coveted accept an enemy vampire as her own?
Tehya has spent the last twelve years as an accidental wolf, but is truly a vampire at heart. When she gets injured, Lobo sneaks her inside MoonBound’s headquarters and nurses her back to health…with potentially deadly consequences. Desire collides with danger in “Forsaken by Night,” a MoonBound Clan novella from Larissa Ione!
In Gena Showalter’s Otherworld Assassins novella, Dark Swan, Lilica Swan isn’t quite human or otherworlder; she is the best—and worst—of both. She is willing to do whatever proves necessary to save her sister from the seductive and deadly Alien Investigation and Removal agent, Dallas Gutierrez, even bond her life to his…effectively wedding him. But without consummation, the bond will fade. Can Dallas resist his insatiable desire for the powerful beauty? Or will she lead to his ultimate downfall?
The Warlord Wants Forever by Kresley Cole
Myst and Nikolai’s book is the first look into a whole new world of supernatural beings. The Immortals After Dark series is one of my top 5 series and you will be glad to know that it’s not over yet!

Myst the Coveted is a Valkyrie as fierce as all of her sisters! When vampire General Nikolai Wroth takes over one of the castles of his King’s enemies and discovers the beautiful creature in the dungeon, he doesn’t know what to do with her. His first instinct screams to keep her but then Myst seems to have information that Kristoff, his King, needs and Nikolai owes him his life. It’s not long before Nikolai realizes that Myst is not the helpless creature her though her to be and it’s not long after she slips through his fingers.

What did I think of the story? Duh, I freaking love the IAD series and Myst and Nikolai’s story is just a small taste of how incredible the whole series is. Their story can also be found as a standalone book.

Forsaken by Night by Larissa Ione
This story is part of the MoonBound Clan Vampires series, which I have not read, but it can totally be read as a standalone.

Forsaken by night tells the story of Lobo, a vampire who can change forms and Tehya, a vampire who is stuck in her werewolf form. When Lobo found the injured wolf years ago, it gave him all the motivation he needed to get his act together and live for the loyal wolf. Now, Tehya is fatally injured once again and Lobo will risk everything to get her the help she needs. Lobo not only breaks the rules but the very laws that he once obeyed to heal this wolf. Little does he expect to meet the woman trapped as the wolf and the attraction that he cannot deny. But Lobo has broken the laws and it’s now time to pay the consequences.

I really liked Lobo and Tehya’s story. They were two amazing but tortured characters who completed each other. Lobo thought that the wolf saved him when he needed something to live but it’s not until he meets the real Tehya that he realizes what he has been missing. We also get to see some other characters in the series as well as some new developments.

Dark Swan by Gena Showalter
*Squee* This is the story that I have been waiting for YEARS!

I’m a HUGE fan of the Alien Huntress series and its spin off, Otherworld Assassin series, and for awhile now I thought that Gena was done with the series but she’s NOT!

Agent Dallas Gutierrez has had a rough start in life and it hasn’t gotten any better. Sure, he has the most loyal and caring friends in the world but his near death experience cost him his human nature. Now, a human and an Arcadian hybrid, Dallas will do anything to stop the biggest threat on earth, Trinity Swan.

Lilica Swan will do anything to save her sister even if it means staying close to the enemy. When Jade, her other sister, informs her that the only way to find Trinity s through Dallas, Lilica knows she will have to stick with him to protect her sister. But what happens when Lilica and Dallas fall in love yet their missions remain the same?

I FREAKING LOVED IT! Dallas and Lilica were amazing characters! We got to catch up with other characters in the series such as Mia, who is still a badass, and Devyn & Bride, who I LOVE as a couple! We also got to see what’s going on with John No Last Name, a character we met in the Otherworld Assassin series and someone who has had it even rougher than Dallas. Despite his horrific past, John is an excellent agent and is put in charge of Jade’s protection. The pair has some serious issues to get through and I’m hoping we get to see their HEA.

ARC Review: Shadow Falling (The Scorpius Syndrome #2) by Rebecca Zanetti

Title: Shadow Falling
Author: Rebecca Zanetti
Series: The Scorpius Syndrome #2

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
Before the Scorpius Syndrome tore through North America and nearly wiped out the population, Vivienne Kennedy was the FBI’s best profiler. The bacteria got her anyway. But she survived. She recovered. And when she woke up from a drug-nightmare of captivity, her skills as a hunter of men had gone from merely brilliant to full-on uncanny. Her mysterious rescuer wants her to put them to the test. But no matter how tempting he is, with his angel’s eyes and devil’s tongue, Vinnie knows she shouldn’t trust him.
If the FBI were still around they would rate Raze Shadow as one of the bad guys. His military training can’t wipe out his association with the Mercenaries, the most feared gang in a thousand miles. His loyalties are compromised. He won’t even tell Vinnie his real name. But there’s no FBI in the new America of fear and firepower, only instinct and risk.

And the way his arms wrap around Vinnie tells its own story. Whatever else Raze is concealing, he can’t hide his desire . . .
Shadow Falling was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!

The book begins some weeks after the ending of Mercury Striking! Vivienne -aka Vinnie- is struggling to adjust, her nightmares and hallucinations surely do not help her situation. Fortunately, there’s something -someone – who does! Raze Shadow may be Vinnie’s savior but the man is far from a hero, not when he has his own agenda and especially not when his agenda goes against everything Jax Mercury stands for!

There were so many things going on this book! It was insanely good! We have Raze, who has his own agenda. Vinnie, who is trying to remain sane while at the same time trying to fit in this new society. Jax, who is facing some serious inner territory issues while also facing bigger threats from the surrounding gangs and the President himself. Lynn, who is struggling to come up with a cure without a proper lab. The President who is preoccupied with reorganizing the army while looking for opportunities to capture Lynn and Vinnie and so on! The book definitely offers variety!

I adored Raze! He was everything I thought he would be and he definitely lived up to my expectations! I actually really like all of the major characters so far, including those introduced in this book! I’m definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Justice Ascending, Tace and Sami’s book, especially considering Sami’s real identity! I’m also very excited to see what’s going on between Maureen and Greyson, they can deny it all they want but there’s definitely something going on with them and it’s definitely going to be scorching HOT!

ARC Review: Hard Rules (Dirty Money #1) by Lisa Renee Jones

Title: Hard Rules
Author: Lisa Renee Jones
Series: Dirty Money #1

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
Wall Street meets the Sons of Anarchy in the smoldering, scorching first novel in the explosively sexy new Dirty Money series from New York Times bestselling author Lisa Renee Jones.
How bad do you want it?
The only man within the Brandon empire with a moral compass, Shane Brandon is ready to take his family's business dealings legitimate. His reckless and ruthless brother, Derek wants to keep Brandon Enterprises cemented in lies, deceit, and corruption. But the harder Shane fights to pull the company back into the light, the darker he has to become. Then he meets Emily Stevens, a woman who not only stirs a voracious sexual need in him, but becomes the only thing anchoring him between good and evil.
Emily is consumed by Shane, pushed sexually in ways she never dreamed of, falling deeper into the all-encompassing passion that is this man. She trusts him. He trusts her, but therein lies the danger. Emily has a secret, the very thing that brought her to him in the first place, and that secret that could that destroy them both.
Another new series by Lisa Renee Jones!

It feels like a few months ago when I read my very first book by Jones, which by the way was a new series as well, and now I’m lucky enough to have gotten an ARC of yet another new series.

Hard Rules tells the story of Shane Brandon, a billionaire who is trying to keep his legacy from sinking and Emily Stevens, a woman on the run. Both have secrets that could get them killed but yet staying away from each other seems impossible.

The book started off great! We get a glimpse into Emily’s life before we get to see her literally running into Shane. Even from their first encounter you can feel the chemistry between them and I was very excited to see how that was going to develop. Their relationship was scorching HOT but there were times where Emily’s behavior became frustrating. She wanted Shane but she was also afraid that being with him might bring the person she’s running from to his door, which caused a lot of drama and uncertainty between them.

Hard Rules was just the beginning! We might have gotten but a glimpse into Emily’s life but we sure got a lot more information about the Brandon family and their messed up relationships.

I really liked the first book in the Dirty Money series, and the cover is to-die for as well, but be warned that it is a cliffhanger. If you get frustrated with them, I suggest you wait before starting the series.

Now it's up to Dominique to trust the one man who's linked to the agony of her past. Can she find a way to love the enemy she always loathed?
I feel like it was just a month ago when Secret Obsession was released and we already have the #13 book in the Red Stone Security series.

Dominique is clever, loves her job at RSS and her friends, she is successful and beautiful but she does not have the people she loves the most, her parents. She is well aware that her father brought about their misfortunes but it was the devil himself that ruined them all! Dominique knows very well who to blame, Victor Ivanov and his father. It was his father that took everything from her, that made her an orphan. Victor’s father may be gone but as long as Victor, Dominique cannot forget what was taken from her. When she catches Victor’s eye though things change and it doesn’t take long to realize that Victor was never her enemy!

Dominique and Victor’s story was great! I liked a lot of things about their story but there was one thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars! Dominique claims that she has hated Victor and his father for a long time, years actually, she blames both of them for her mother’s death. However, at the same time, she already appears quite taken with Victor despite blaming him. It seems so contradictory and a bit confusing. I could feel her pain and anger towards Victor’s family but one kiss is all it takes for her to forget everything! Really?! It was actually more than that! She was the one who went after him time and time again, not to take her revenge or anything but to pursue a romantic relationship. I don’t have a problem with strong heroines but with her and Victor’s history their romance seemed rushed and unrealistic.

I especially liked Victor’s half-brother, Abram and their assistant, Lucy! Their relationship was HOT!

I have no idea who is next but I hope the next book will be a bit longer.

Title: Wicked Burn
Author: Rebecca Zanetti
Series: Realm Enforcers #3

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Includes the brand new Dark Protectors novella, 'Talen'!
Simone Brightston knows she can beat the rap her enemies are pinning on her. An Irish witch is nobody's fool, and she didn't get to her position on the high council without serious power. But her cousins want her to hide out—and they somehow convinced her arch nemesis to play getaway driver.
Of all the men she's known, Nikolaj Veis is the hardest to intimidate. With his demon-dark eyes and his inscrutable beauty, he's as desirable as he is dangerous. And he knows better than to underestimate Simone. So when he pulls up on a roaring bike and tells her to climb on or fight it out, she grabs a handful of jacket and holds on tight. Running from the law may not be the smartest plan. But when it comes to Nick, hot pursuit and a blazing fast ride are exactly what Simone's looking for . . .
OMG! Holy cow!

Ever since the Dark Protectors series and ever since we got introduced to the infamous powerful witch Simon Brightston and Nikolaj Veis, a demon who also happens to be Zane’s right hand, I knew I wanted to read their story!

What we know: Simone and Nick used to be together but something happened to force them apart and they are now each other’s nemesis. Their history will blow you away. Just WOW! I never saw that coming. Simone and Nick were always meant to be together and even though circumstances forced them apart, they can now enjoy “forever” together. If only things were that simple. Simone is not ready to forgive or forget the demon who broke her heart, his betrayal still hurts her but she would rather die before she admits that!

Circumstances forced them apart and circumstances will bring them together. As a member of coven 9, the high council of the witches, Simone is known by all and not quite loved by all. When damning evidence turns up against her and the council demands her death, Nick will be there to save her even if she does not want to be saved!

Wicked Burn was full of twists and surprises and non-stop action and romance and lots of hot sex scenes! This is the book, were the supernatural world as we know it, will change! There are some HUGE surprises! Even the end, while not a cliffhanger, will leave you at the edge of your seat!

The secondary characters, I just loved! We get to see lots of scenes with Bear *look at for him*, Adam and Alexandra’s sister Victoria, some other couples and, of course, Zane makes an appearance or two! I’s totally obsessed with this book! The highlight of the whole book: there is a bonus story featuring Cara and Talen, the first couple we meet in the Dark Protector series.

I’m really hoping that Adam and Victoria are next! I kind of already see them together, especially with their chemistry!

I really can’t wait for the next book, Wicked Kiss!

ARC Review: Secret Obsession (Red Stone Security #12) by Katie Reus

Title: Secret Obsession
Author: Katie Reus
Series: Red Stone Security #12

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
He’s the security she’s always needed.Since she moved to Miami, Raegan Taylor has desired Ford Burke–a sexy and rugged cop. He’s everything she’s ever wanted. Unfortunately for Raegan, Ford’s kept his distance. But when a night out goes extremely wrong, his protective instincts kick into high gear, and he finds himself fighting for her in more ways than one.
She’s exactly what he was trying to avoid.Once Raegan and Ford grow closer, the harder they start to fall for each other. But Ford’s past stirs up feelings he just can’t control, threatening to destroy everything they’ve worked for. And when he screws up, he may lose more than just his one shot with her.
And now someone’s ready to ruin it all.Someone wants Raegan—and if he can’t have her—nobody can. He’s waiting. He’s watching. He’s lurking. Ready to strike. He’ll make her his. He’ll take down anyone who gets in his way—even a cop.
Secret Obsession is the twelfth book in the Red Stone Security series and it offers not one but two parallel romances. The main focus, though, are Raegan Taylor, Harrison, Grant and Porter’s cousin and sexy cop, Ford Burke.

Ford cannot believe that the one woman whom he desires is the Caldwell’s cousin. As if that wasn’t enough, she’s a decade younger than him and the fact that he can’t seem to control himself around her, makes Ford believe that Raegan is a dream that he is never going to enjoy.

Raegan may be the Caldwell’s cousin but she won’t let them control her life. Working at RSS with Athena is something she didn’t expect to be doing but she has come to love her job. She likes everyone at RSS and her job offers her more than she would ever need. But something is missing and she knows exactly what, Ford. Even though the sexy cop won’t admit his feelings, his actions say a lot. So, when Ford saves her from a night gone wrong, Raegan knows it’s a now or never opportunity.

Secret obsession was amazing! I really liked Ford and Reagan as a couple. I loved the fact that we got to see and hear from couples from the previous books in the series and I especially loved the scenes with Mara and Harrison (they still remain my fav couple). We also get to meet Raegan’s friends, Ruby and Dominique. This book has two romances and the other, while parallel, is a bit short-ish but still really great! We got to see Ruby and Montez get together and how their relationship developed and everything and it was so cute!

As for Dominique, worry not. Katie recently announced that she’s getting her own story with a character we briefly meet here. Her book, Love Thy Enemy, will be out early June, so make sure to read this one before the next one comes out!

Another great read by Katie Reus!

ARC Review: Into the Darkness (Darkness #5) by Katie Reus

Title: Into the Darkness
Author: Katie Reus
Series: Darkness #5

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
One book. Two stories. A demigod and a half-demon are about to get married. Which means a week of festivities, romance, fun, and the kind of crazy drama wolf shifters are known for. When someone targets the Stavros pack, everyone bands together to fight an unknown enemy and two couples will fight for their chance at happily ever after.
She’s not looking for a mate…
Rhea is a warrior. She’s bled and fought for the Stavros wolf pack for over a hundred years. She never expected to fall for the Alpha of a dragon clan. But when her past comes back to haunt her, she finds herself working side by side with the very man whose been staring in all her fantasies. She never wants to get mated because she’ll never risk getting someone she cares for killed. Not again. So she convinces herself that they have something fun and easy, no strings attached.
But he’s playing for keeps…
Conall, Alpha of the Petronilla clan, has been biding his time claiming his future mate. At fifteen hundred years old he’s patient and cunning. Except when he’s around Rhea, years of civilization are stripped away and all he wants to do is possess her, make her his forever. But something happened in the stubborn woman’s past and she’s determined to keep walls between them. It’s a good thing he’s a dragon. He’ll just burn down every last barrier between them and claim what’s his. But someone from her past is threatening her and her pack—and the life of the woman he’s waited a lifetime to make his own.
* * *
Shifters, vampires and dragons are real…
A year ago Liberty had no idea that things that go bump in the night actually existed. But supernatural beings are real. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg in her new reality. Saved from a Hell realm by a team of half-demons and a demigod, she finds herself falling for her sexy rescuer Rory more and more every day. She’s worried she’s too broken to ever have a relationship again, but the more time they spend together, the harder it is to deny her attraction.
And when they choose a mate, they don’t give up easily.
Half-wolf, half-demon Rory has been looking out for Liberty ever since rescuing her from hell. And since she’s the wedding planner for his half-brother’s wedding, he sees her all the time. Not to mention he just happens to spend every night in her bed. Unfortunately he’s in wolf form when he stays over. He’s not sure what it’s going to take to move from friend to more, but he’s willing to wait forever if that’s what it takes. Because Liberty is worth fighting for, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make the brave survivor his.
I didn’t expect the books in the series to get any better than the previous one (which I fell in love with) but Into the Darkness, the fifth book in the series was beyond awesome.

Into the darkness offers not one but two stories which means two different couples. In Hunted by darkness, Nyx and Bo found their HEA and in this book they are ready to tie the knot. Everyone (aka their allies) is welcome to join their week long celebrations before their wedding. However, things don’t always go according to the plan, especially with so many supernatural creatures around.

Wolf shifter, Rhea, is happy for Nyx and Bo but when an unknown enemy seems poised to ruin their celebrations, Rhea will do anything to ensure that everyone’s safe even work with Alpha Dragon, Conal. Rhea and Conal’s friendship has been developing through the last couple of books in the series but they both want more even if they are afraid to admit it. Conal has been too patient and he’s too stubborn to give up now, especially when it becomes clear that the attacks are somehow connected with Rhea’s past. He will have his mate and destroy her enemies.

If only it were that simple.

Ever since Liberty was freed from hell, wolf/demon shifter Rory, Bo’s half-brother, has been by her side. His presence comforts her but Liberty knows that it’s time she moved on from her haunting memories of her captivity. Now, eight months later she’s trying to be helpful by organizing Nyx’s wedding celebrations. But with the sudden attacks happening, Rory will once again, stay by her side and protect her. Liberty, years for more than protection from him and she will gave to make sure the wolf/demon knows that!

Into the darkness was brilliant. Katie used Bo and Nyx’s wedding in order to create two beautiful stories and bring together two amazing couples. I loved that we also got to see glimpses of the first couple in the series, Finn and Lyra, whom I adore and their daughter Vega.

I can’t wait for more. I really can’t wait to read Ian or Vega or Cynara’s story!

ARC Review: Kill Without Mercy (ARES Security #1) by Alexandra Ivy

Title: Kill Without Mercy
Author: Alexandra Ivy
Series: ARES Security #1

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
Rafe Vargas is only in Newton, Iowa, to clear out his late grandfather’s small house. As the covert ops specialist for ARES Security, he's eager to get back to his new life in Texas. But when he crosses paths with Annie White, a haunted beauty with skeletons in her closet, he can't just walk away—not when she’s clearly in danger…
There’s a mysterious serial killer on the loose with a link to Annie’s dark past. And the closer he gets, the deeper Rafe’s instinct to protect kicks in. But even with his considerable skill, Annie’s courage, and his ARES buddies behind him, the slaying won’t stop. Now it’s only a matter of time before Annie’s next—unless they can unravel a history of deadly lies that won’t be buried.
Mind-Blowing!

Alexandra Ivy’s new series, Ares security, will leave you at the edge of your seat. This book is like nothing you’ve read before by Ivy but it’s still as abso-f*ucking-lutely incredible as her other books.

When Rafe Vargas and his friends escaped from a Taliban prison the only thing that kept them alive was the promise of freedom. Now back in the U.S. the team Rafe, a covert ops specialist, Max, trained in forensics, Hauk, a sniper, Teagan, a computer wizard and Lucas, hostage negotiator is about to introduce their own kind of security, Ares security. But first Rafe has to leave his ranch in Texas and travel to Newton to take care his late grandfather’s small house. While in Newton, Rafe meets Annie White, his need to go back home is forgotten and another need emerges; to protect.

Annie is haunted by a past that everyone in Newton knows about. Everyone blamed her father for the murders in Newton 15 years ago and they still do. It doesn’t matter that he’s dead. Especially when Annie returns to Newton and it seems like women start disappearing and the killings have started again. Annie knows she must act before it gets as bad as the previous time but she doesn’t know who to trust.

This one was full of non-stop action from the very beginning. Kill without mercy may have been Rafe’s story but we got to meet Max, Hauk, Teagan and Lucas. They all went to Newton when it became clear that Rafe was dealing with a more dangerous threat than what he was prepared. They were such a great team!

All the characters were great but what I truly loved was the plot. That was insanely good! There was plenty of action but what I’m really talking about are the twists. There were so many secrets that were kept from Annie, so many lies that she had been told. If Annie and Rafe want to uncover the real identity of the Newton slayer they will have to dig deeper beneath this sea of lies and secrets and uncover the truth. A truth that will shock the whole small community.

Kill without Mercy was mind-blowing. I really liked the characters, the plot and the twists. I read it in a sitting and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. There is a huge mystery surrounding the White family and it was a great challenge uncovering it.

I’m not sure but I believe Hauk’s story is next! Hauk keeps getting threating messages and no one can determine who the perpetrator is, despite their attempts.

The book also reveals the first chapter of Blood Lust, the third book in the Sentinels series. I am in LOVE! I can’t wait to read Bas and Myst’s story. The chemistry between them is off the charts.

FEEL THE BURN

Dragon Kin #8

G.A. Aiken

Released Nov 24th, 2015

Zebra Imprint

War makes strange bedfellows.
I, Gaius Domitus, one-eyed rebel dragon king of the Provinces, know that better than most, since I have to fight off half my ungrateful family on a regular basis to keep law and order here in my lands. But I never expected to have to consort with a barbarian human woman.
Kachka is beautiful, if you like them fierce—and of course I do. But she keeps complaining about how spoiled and decadent I am, and how a feared Daughter of the Steppes has no time for foolish dragons. I think she likes my eye patch, though. It is quite dashing. With death always at our tails, we take our passion like we take our allies. As they say, love the barbarian you’re with…

Review

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The eighth book in the Dragon Kin series will blow you away!

Gaius Domitus, aka the one eyed Rebel dragon King, wants his vengeance but to get it he will have to ally with an insane Queen and her even more insane assassin, Kachka.

Kachka is a deadly human who has no respect for the Rebel King and she’s not afraid to voice her opinion. Leader of her own team of fierce yet hilarious assassins, she is tasked with eliminating a group of extremists who have targeted the Queen and have as a leader the only person that Gaius wants to kill.

Fell the burn was a book filled with adventures, action, humor and romance. The romance part takes a secondary role to the action but the connection between Gaius and Kachka can be seen from their very first encounter. Gaius and Kachka don’t get to spend a lot of time together, the only get together in the middle and the end of the book but every scene between them is HOT! I’d like to say that they talk and discover they are soulmates but that’s not the case. Instead they challenge each other, trying to determine who is in control and Gaius for the first time doesn’t care about control, he just wants her.

This might be the eighth book in the Dragon Kin series but for me it is actually the fourth. I’ve only read the first three books and now the eighth one. Feel the burn is quite different from what I’ve read mostly because you can sense that the real war is coming but also because it was hilarious.

I really enjoyed the book. Kachka was an amazing strong heroine and her team was to-die-for. I couldn’t stop laughing with and at them! Gaius was a great King and an incredible, caring brother who finally avenged his sister and at the same time gained a mate and a Queen for his Kingdom.

Every character in the book is at some level crazy. Even the Insane Queen is well, insane which was really weird because her mate was quite normal. I especially liked Kachka’s sister and her mate and Gaius’ sister.

Feel the burn was a great book. Don’t expect to read a love story because this isn’t one. Gaius and Kachka are a strong, stubborn couple who don’t really care about romance. What they care for though is passion which you’ll definitely find. There is action, a great deal of adventures and journeys, humor and a lot of characters.

If you love dragons or just want to read something to help you relax and have a great time, then read Feel the burn!

Excerpt

Bickering, the sisters began to head back to the queen’s castle, but Kachka realized that the kitchen staff person was struggling to drag the bison back with her. Annoyed—at everyone!—Kachka grabbed one leg of the dead animal and her sister grabbed the other. Together, they yanked the bison back to the house, arguing all the way, while the girl was forced to run in order to keep up.

“I just don’t understand why you’re so unhappy,” Elina said, yanking the bison over a ridge. “There’s plenty of food and water and soft beds to sleep in.”

“You don’t have to remind me of how pathetic we’ve become, sister.”

“How is enjoying a few amenities pathetic?”

“The fact that you have to ask that upsets me more than you’ll ever know.”

“Then find something to do, Kachka, rather than sitting around glaring at everyone.”

“What can I do here?” Kachka demanded. “What is there for me to do? Farm?” She stopped, glared at her sister. “Is that what you want me to be? A farmer? Like some . . . man? Is that what you think of me? That I’m a worthless man?”

“Of course not! I’d never say that. But perhaps you can talk to the Northlander, Dagmar Reinholdt. She is always up to something.”

“She hates me,” Kachka reminded her sister.

“Well, maybe if you hadn’t fucked her nephew . . .”

“He was there!”

They began dragging the bison carcass again.

“There has to be something constructive you can do,” her sister went on. “I’m sure General Brastias would be more than happy to have you—”

Kachka stopped again, now only a few feet from the queen’s home. “Take orders from a man? Have you lost your mind?” she yelled. “Has everyone lost their mind?”

As if in answer, the queen herself rode up to the steps of the castle, dismounted from her oversized black steed— honestly, who needed that much horse?—walked up a couple of steps, then abruptly stopped.

That’s when the queen suddenly screamed. And screamed. And screamed some more.

Everyone who had been going about their day ran when they heard that scream. Soldiers. Merchants. Nursing mothers. Everyone. They ran and hid.

“That answers my question,” Kachka muttered.

“Shut up.”

The queen disappeared into her home, and Kachka and Elina finished dragging the bison all the way to the kitchens. Once they dropped it off, they returned to the deserted Main Hall.

Kachka stood there a moment before announcing, “See? There’s nothing to do!”

Review: Sweet Ruin (Immortals After Dark #15) by Kresley Cole

Title: Sweet Ruin
Author: Kresley Cole
Series: Immortals After Dark #15

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A foundling raised in a world of humansGrowing up, orphaned Josephine didn’t know who or what she was—just that she was “bad,” an outcast with strange powers. Her baby brother Thaddeus was as perfect as she was flawed; protecting him became her entire life. The day he was taken away began Jo’s transition from angry girl…to would-be superhero…to enchanting, ruthless villain.
A lethally sensual enforcer on a missionA threat to the Møriør has brought archer Rune the Baneblood to the mortal realm to slay the oldest living Valkyrie. Whether by bow or in bed, he never fails to eliminate his target. Yet before he can strike, he encounters a vampiric creature whose beauty conceals a black heart. With one bite, she pierces him with aching pleasure, taking his forbidden blood—and jeopardizing the secrets of his brethren.
A boundless passion that will lead to sweet ruin…Could this exquisite female be a spy sent by the very Valkyrie he hunts? Rune knows he must not trust Josephine, yet he’s unable to turn her away. Despite his millennia of sexual conquests, he can’t ignore the unfamiliar longing she arouses deep within him. When Jo betrays the identity of the one man she will die to protect, she and Rune become locked in a treacherous battle of wills that pits ultimate loyalty against unbridled lust.
OMG!!! Holy Cow! Sweet Ruin was MIND BLOWING!

When I found out that this book was going to be about Thad’s sister, Josephine and Rune, a member of the Morior, I wasn’t that excited! I wanted to know more about the Morior but what I really wanted was Munro’s story. HOWEVER, after actually reading the book I really can’t complain!

Ever since she can remember herself, Josephine has had one life goal; protect her little brother Thaddeus. She knows nothing about their past, who their parents are or where they came from but she knows she has to protect him no matter what. Until she’s brutally murdered and they are separated. When Josephine wakes up at the morgue, she has no idea she’s a half phantom, half vampire hybrid but she quickly realizes that she’s not normal. She takes revenge on the people who murdered her and her next thought is to go after her brother but it’s too late!

Now 14 years later, she’s aimlessly wandering around New Orleans still trying to find out information about her past until she comes across Rune.

Rune the Baneblood is on a mission. The Morior have decided that Nix is a threat against them and therefore she must be killed. Rune, a hybrid himself, is a true assassin who will do anything for the Morior. He desires Josephine but he knows he can’t trust her. With the same mission, to kill Nix, they form an uneasy alliance that will either bring them close or tear them apart…

This book was freaking mind blowing. There was so much action, so many twists and soooooo many surprises. We almost got to see everyone (just a pretty little scene) including the Enemy of Old. I L-O-V-E-D everything about this book. It’s a huge step towards the impending Accession and with the Morior in play you never know what will happen!

Favorite Scene between the Morior and Nix's Allies: (to view spoiler highlight/select it with your cursor)

Morior: “Trifling beings, you are presently beneath my boot heal; you just don’t have the awareness to grasp your own doom. We are the bringers of it.”

Lothaire: “Well, I like them already. That sounds like something I would have said. With, of course, a dash more verve.”

I fell in love with Josephine. It’s usual the male hero that gets my attention but the heroine in this book was so selfless. She was a badass, she has the best powers EVER and she truly has no idea how AWESOME she is! Josephine sacrificed her own happiness so that her brother could get a chance at having a normal and balanced life. She was soooo lonely but she still didn’t care about herself as much as she did about her brother. Every night she went out hunting to make the world a better (aka safer) place for Thad to live in. BEST SISTER EVER!

We also get to see what is happening with Nix! So freaking intelligent that Valkyrie! I really admire her but she’s NUTS! She’s also about to become completely something else so prepare yourselves!

I devoured this book in a matter of hours (who needs sleep?! Not ME!) I’m so obsessed. I can’t stop thinking about it and what is going to happen next; I just know I’m going to love it. What I can’t stop thinking about is Nix’s mate. Who is he? When are we going to meet him? Have we already met him? What if Orion, leader of the Morior, is actually her mate? (Highly improbably but what if?) When is the next book coming out? Can I have it now please?

I really can’t wait for more but until then, I’m going to re-read it a thousand times (I vow it to the Lore :)
