Title: Buried and Shadowed
Authors: Alexandra Ivy , Carrie Ann Ryan
Series: Branded Packs #3

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
Buried
Gibson Barton knows his Pack is on the verge of something they will never be able to prepare for: a chance at freedom. Yet when he’s finally able to open his eyes to what might be his fate, it could be too late.

As a submissive wolf of her Pack, Mandy Calhoun has always only watched Gibson from afar. Because of her fears, she hasn’t let her intentions toward him—or the other in her sights—be known.

Oliver Dare is the Foreseer of the Ursine Pack, and knows with each vision, his death is that much closer. Yet he cannot see his own future—or that of the two wolves who have been thrust into his path.

There is danger lurking in the den, and as the three learn to process their emotions and navigate their temptations, they’ll have to fight for something they never knew they had—or sacrifice it all for a purpose far greater than their own destinies.
Shadowed
Sinclair, Alpha of the Unseen Pack, is determined to destroy the Shifter Accommodation Unit. He understands that his people will never be free until the truth is revealed and their enemies are brought out of the shadows and exposed to the public. Unfortunately, the human female who has been secretly working with him has disappeared, and his priorities must shift slightly. He’s resolved to track her down, and not just because she has the information he needs.
Mira Reese isn’t stupid. She’s painfully aware that the sexy shifter she’s been working with has been using her fascination for him to gain access to the CDC computer system. But that doesn’t stop her from helping Sinclair. Not when it allows her to be close to him. But after the CDC kidnaps her, she realizes that this isn’t a game. She’s a potential savior for the future of the shifters—and perhaps especially the loner wolf who stirs her passions.
Buried

What happens when an Omega, a submissive wolf and a bear, that also happens to be a foreseer, feel the urge to mate? Denial, that’s what!

Mandy cannot believe that she, a submissive wolf, feels the urge to mate not with one but two strong shifters. She knows it won’t be easy but nothing good ever is. Mandy may be the submissive one but when it becomes apparent that both Gibson and Oliver are struggling to approach each other, she doesn’t hesitate to take matters into her own hands.

Buried is the first story in the series that features a mating bond between 3 shifters and it was ridiculously awesome! Mandy, Gibson and Oliver had a lot of issues to deal with, especially considering that Gibson only recently discovered his Omega abilities, but one thing that was never in question was their love.

At the end of Buried we also get to see some important changes regarding the Shifter Accommodation Unit which are further explored in Shadowed.

Shadowed

This is Sinclair’s story! I repeat this is the story of the ALPHA of the Unseen pack.

Sinclair may be a free shifter but he can’t rest until the SAU is destroyed and all shifters roam free once again. He is really close to collecting all the evidence needed to prove that it wasn’t the shifters that caused the virus but it was man-made. Just before he acquires the last piece of the puzzle though, he realizes that Mira, the computer genius who helped him get his hands on the evidence, is missing.

Mira has known that Sinclair approached her because of the computer skills from the beginning but that didn’t stop her from falling for him. Now Sinclair has come to save her but something has changed and Mira isn’t sure whether or not she can still trust him.

Sinclair was such a sweet but at the same time strong alpha. He thought he was fooling Mira while in truth he was fooling himself. When he thought that something might have happened to Mira because of his mission, he was determined to leave everything behind hoping to find her.

The Branded packs have been found innocent and they are now (almost) free to live again. But can it really be so easy?

Review

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

OMG! I’ve been waiting so long (okay not that long, but it did feel like it!) for Bas and Myst’s story!

Five years ago Bas and Myst created the most amazing child ever, Molly. Unfortunately, Must had to give up her daughter and has been on the run ever since. Bas, a notorious assassin, still cannot understand how Myst was able to abandon their daughter. Molly, is his greatest achievement and treasure and he will allow no one to harm her, not even her own mother. After Molly’s abduction, Myst knows she can no longer stay away. She already gave up on Molly once and she’s not strong enough to do it again. With her enemies getting closer, Myst will have to risk it all if it means spending time with her daughter!

This is my favorite book in the series so far. I just loved it soooooo much! Myst was so secretive, for a good reason too, and Bas was just determined to find out the truth. And in the middle of them, Molly. She was ADORABLE. I really liked the fact that Bas still cared for Myst even after he though she was irresponsible and heartless for abandoning her daughter.

I really, really loved Bas and Myst and Molly and the surprises at the end was just perfect (is it too much to ask for a novella? A small one pretty please?) However, Blood lust offers more than just a romance. There is action, suspense, twists and lots of testosterone. I really liked Kaede, Bas’ right hand, Lana, aka the Mave, and Wolfe, the leader of the Sentinels. The chemistry between Lana and Wolfe was off the charts and I really can’t wait to see how that will work out!

I don’t know who is next, either Kaede or Lana & Wolfe’s story but I loved Blood lust and I’d really like to see more of Bas, Myst and their family.

Excerpt

He looked . . . offended.

“You didn’t tell me you were a telepath.”

She shrugged. “You didn’t ask.”

“You applied for a job. I assumed you would have shared your complete resume.” He leaned down, wrapping her in the scent of clean male skin and scotch. “Or were you keeping secrets even back then?”

His lips brushed the top of her ear, sending streaks of lightning through her body.

Danger, excitement, and pure lust twisted her stomach into a knot.

Dammit. She’d spent the past four years isolated in the bowels of a Russian monastery. She wasn’t prepared to deal with the cascade of sensations.

She struggled to suck air into her lungs. “I wasn’t a telepath when I applied for the job,” she said in hoarse tones.

He frowned, his fingers resuming their absent path up and down her arm. Was he even aware of what he was doing?

Her skin shivered with delight.

“Is that supposed to be a joke?” he demanded.

She grimaced, understanding his annoyance. High-bloods were born with their mutations, even if some didn’t reveal themselves until after puberty. Most people only had one, but a rare few could claim a combination.

Like Bas, who’d been born with both the magic of a witch and the superior strength of a Sentinel. And even more rare were those powers that appeared later in life, seemingly out of nowhere.

None of the healers had an explanation.

It simply happened.

“The talent didn’t reveal itself until I was pregnant,” she grudgingly confessed.

He lifted his head, genuine amazement in his eyes. “A spontaneous manifestation?”

“Yes.”

He studied her with a searing intensity. “Fine. You should have told me you were in contact with Molly.”

She forced herself to hold that raptor gaze. Bas was a natural leader with a male confidence that easily intimidated others.

In other words . . . an arrogant ass.

He would run her over completely if she didn’t try to stand her ground.

“As I said, you’re not my boss.”

“No, but I am Molly’s father.”

“I know that—” she started to snap, only to bite her tongue. Well, hell.

He was right.

“And?” he prompted.

She grimaced. It was true he was an arrogant ass, but he’d taken in a baby that he hadn’t known existed, without question and without hesitation, and surrounded her with the sort of love every little girl deserved.

As much as it might pain her to stroke his bloated ego, she owed him her eternal gratitude.

“I’m truly appreciative that you’ve done such a wonderful job with Molly.” She managed to force the words past her stiff lips. “She’s a very special little girl and I know that you had a very large part in that.”

He blinked, a flare of color staining the sharp line of his cheekbones.

Had she managed to knock him off guard?

Amazing.

Then his lips abruptly thinned. “You’re very good at deflecting my questions,” he accused.

She dropped her gaze to his thousand-dollar Italian shoes. “Then stop asking them.”

“Myst.” His finger curled beneath her chin, tilting her head up. “Why didn’t you let me know you were in contact with my daughter?”

A fresh pain sliced through her heart. “Our daughter,” she corrected in fierce tones.

His lips parted, but before he could deny her right to be a mother, Molly’s plaintive voice interrupted their tense confrontation.

“Daddy, I want Mommy to tell the story.”

Myst glanced toward the tiny girl who was perched on the edge of the bed before returning her wary gaze to the predator who was nearly vibrating with the urge to toss her through the nearest window.

“Let me go to her, Bas,” she said in low tones. “Please.”

Frustration tightened his stark features, but dropping his hands, he forced himself to take a step back.

“Tell her the story. Then we talk,” he warned, turning his head to send his daughter a smile that held uncomplicated affection. “Good night, pet.”

Bas stalked from the room, his phone pressed to his ear as he reached the main room of the suite.

“Kaede,” he snapped as soon as his enforcer picked up. “I need you in Kansas City. I’ll explain when you get here.”

He shoved the phone back into his pocket and paced to the bank of windows that overlooked the Kansas City skyline.

Unfucking believable.

After five years of paying a fortune to trackers, witches, and even a human private investigator to hunt down Myst, she waltzes into his penthouse as if she had every right to be there.

Worse, he discovered that she’d been in constant contact with Molly.

A short, humorless laugh was wrenched from his throat.

No, that wasn’t the worst.

The worst was the undeniable fact that he found her just as damned exquisite as the first time she’d sashayed that tiny body into his office.

His fingers had twitched with the urge to run through the moonlit silk of her hair. To yank off her pretty sundress and explore the pale ivory skin that had haunted his dreams. To crush the soft curve of her lips until they parted in help-less surrender.

Emotions are the enemy.

He’d been taught that by the monks who’d honed him into the perfect killer.

But Myst managed to shatter a lifetime of training, stir-ring his passions with an ease that was frankly terrifying.

He needed her gone.

Now.

ARC Review: Kill Without Mercy (ARES Security #1) by Alexandra Ivy

Title: Kill Without Mercy
Author: Alexandra Ivy
Series: ARES Security #1

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
Rafe Vargas is only in Newton, Iowa, to clear out his late grandfather’s small house. As the covert ops specialist for ARES Security, he's eager to get back to his new life in Texas. But when he crosses paths with Annie White, a haunted beauty with skeletons in her closet, he can't just walk away—not when she’s clearly in danger…
There’s a mysterious serial killer on the loose with a link to Annie’s dark past. And the closer he gets, the deeper Rafe’s instinct to protect kicks in. But even with his considerable skill, Annie’s courage, and his ARES buddies behind him, the slaying won’t stop. Now it’s only a matter of time before Annie’s next—unless they can unravel a history of deadly lies that won’t be buried.
Mind-Blowing!

Alexandra Ivy’s new series, Ares security, will leave you at the edge of your seat. This book is like nothing you’ve read before by Ivy but it’s still as abso-f*ucking-lutely incredible as her other books.

When Rafe Vargas and his friends escaped from a Taliban prison the only thing that kept them alive was the promise of freedom. Now back in the U.S. the team Rafe, a covert ops specialist, Max, trained in forensics, Hauk, a sniper, Teagan, a computer wizard and Lucas, hostage negotiator is about to introduce their own kind of security, Ares security. But first Rafe has to leave his ranch in Texas and travel to Newton to take care his late grandfather’s small house. While in Newton, Rafe meets Annie White, his need to go back home is forgotten and another need emerges; to protect.

Annie is haunted by a past that everyone in Newton knows about. Everyone blamed her father for the murders in Newton 15 years ago and they still do. It doesn’t matter that he’s dead. Especially when Annie returns to Newton and it seems like women start disappearing and the killings have started again. Annie knows she must act before it gets as bad as the previous time but she doesn’t know who to trust.

This one was full of non-stop action from the very beginning. Kill without mercy may have been Rafe’s story but we got to meet Max, Hauk, Teagan and Lucas. They all went to Newton when it became clear that Rafe was dealing with a more dangerous threat than what he was prepared. They were such a great team!

All the characters were great but what I truly loved was the plot. That was insanely good! There was plenty of action but what I’m really talking about are the twists. There were so many secrets that were kept from Annie, so many lies that she had been told. If Annie and Rafe want to uncover the real identity of the Newton slayer they will have to dig deeper beneath this sea of lies and secrets and uncover the truth. A truth that will shock the whole small community.

Kill without Mercy was mind-blowing. I really liked the characters, the plot and the twists. I read it in a sitting and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. There is a huge mystery surrounding the White family and it was a great challenge uncovering it.

I’m not sure but I believe Hauk’s story is next! Hauk keeps getting threating messages and no one can determine who the perpetrator is, despite their attempts.

The book also reveals the first chapter of Blood Lust, the third book in the Sentinels series. I am in LOVE! I can’t wait to read Bas and Myst’s story. The chemistry between them is off the charts.

Now she’s mended her wounds and learned that in order to raise her babies she can only trust herself. When her sons meet the lazy cat next door and fall heads over tails for him, she’ll do whatever she takes to protect them—even from a past she’d thought she’d left behind.
Cole McDermott is a jaguar on a mission. Long naps, a willing woman, and a full stomach is usually all he needs when it comes to relaxing after a long day of protecting his Pack. Then he meets Anya and the burn of temptation is silky and tantalizing indeed. When a horror from Anya’s past threatens everything she loves, Cole will put everything aside and fight for her family—as well as his own.
UnseenNicole Bradley had no reason to live after the humans murdered her son. Not until she learns to hunt down those responsible for his death. Shifting into her wolf form at night, she slips out of the compound, determined to do as much damage as possible. The last thing she expected was to discover secrets that could destroy the SAU.
Polar shifter, Tucker Stone, lives off the grid. It’s the only way the Unseen can avoid being rounded up by the humans and tossed into a compound. Besides, he’s a loner by nature. But he can’t walk away when he sees the pretty female wolf in danger. Risking exposure, he takes her to his hidden den and tries to heal her wounds.
Can a reclusive polar bear and a wolf with a death wish find happiness together?

Abandoned

After the SAU (Sifter Accommodation Unit) forced the Ursines, the Canines and the Felines to live together in one compound everyone knew that life was bound to become harder. No one understands that better than Anya Dare, a bear shifter and single mother to twin bear cubs, Owen and Lucas.

Anya already has a difficult time trying to keep up with the cubs especially since their favorite hobby is playing with the tail of a very lazy jaguar shifter, Cole McDermott. Cole realizes that he shouldn’t encourage the twin monsters play with his tail all day long but he misses children and he would never say no to them. What he can’t understand is why their mother Anya seems to hate him so much.

All their differences are pit aside when Anya’s cubs go missing and Cole will do anything to find them.

I loved how the attraction between Anya and Cole was there from the beginning, how Anya resisted the bond that knew they could have but at the moment her cubs are gone she becomes feral. She’s practically pulling at the jaguar’s tail to find her children and he’s more than willing to help this stubborn woman.

Unseen

This one is quite special since we get our very first glimpse at the Unseen pack.

Nicole Bradley lost her young son because of the SAU brutality. No one was held responsible for her son’s murder but Nicole never forgot the face of the man who destroyed her life. Nicole manages to leave the compound undetected so she can hunt the people responsible for her son’s death. The only thing she wasn’t counting on is the polar bear shifter determined to stop her.

Tucker Stone and his pack have been collecting evidence against the SAU for a very long time and he can’t let Nicole ruin their only chance to get justice. When he finds out about Nicole son he heart aches for the lovely woman who refuses to listen to reason. He wants her and he’s not shy to admit it.

Unseen was a great story and I really loved it. We get to see the Alpha of the Unseen Pack, Sinclair who with the help of a human woman, Mira uncover more SAU secrets. I was so intrigued. I want to read more about Sinclair and his plan but this was Nicole and Tucker’s story and I was happy for them. I do hope we see more of the Unseen pack though.

Abandoned and unseen were two great additions to the Branded series. Action, suspense, romance, bear and jaguar shifters and two incredible bear cubs. It had everything!

Excerpt

First, he wasn’t going to shift because he’d be naked. And being naked near her when he had a hard-on—because, come on, she was freaking sexy—wasn’t worth risking his life after she got a look at him sporting wood because of her. Second, he wasn’t lazy, he just picked his battles. As for her boys? Next time, he might just send them back. She had a point when it came to safety. He would never hurt them—they were cubs—but there were human patrols coming through the compound at all times. He wouldn’t see those boys hurt because the humans were in the wrong. However, he wasn’t going to shift and tell her this. She didn’t want to hear it. She had her own reasons for being angry, he suspected, and him defending himself wouldn’t help. Instead, he swished his tail, his eyes on hers.

She lifted her lip in another snarl then threw up her hands. “I can’t with you.” She turned on her heel and stomped back toward her home. He couldn’t help but watch the way her jeans hugged her ass as she did so. She was one sexy blonde Amazon of a woman. Not for him, but it didn’t hurt to look.

“I see you’re making all kinds of friends,” Gibson drawled as he slid through the trees.

Cole had scented the wolf come up a few moments before but hadn’t let on to Anya. He wasn’t sure she’d noticed the man there since she’d been so focused on Cole. Plus, with all the new smells around her, he knew it would take a bit longer than a couple of weeks for her to get her bearings when it came to the different scents of the compound. He didn’t want to see her embarrassed for her outburst in public. And he didn’t know how he felt about that last thought. Instead of dwelling on it, he stretched, lifting his back in a curl before jumping down to the forest floor. With a shake, he shifted back to human. It was fast, a painful reminder that his body held two forms that didn’t quite mesh when one thought of the physics behind it.

“Get some pants on,” Gibson said smoothly. He ran a hand through his dark black hair that always ended up in his face. The damn man had one of those emo rocker haircuts that looked like it took an hour to get perfect each morning. Though Cole knew it just came naturally to the wolf. “You’re late for your appointment, and I don’t need to see your bare ass.”

“It’s a cat ass,” Cole said with a grin and shook it before bending over to grab the pair of sweats he’d left in a nearby bush.

“I so didn’t need to see that. I think I’m blind.”

Cole smiled wide as he slid his sweats over his hips. “You know you liked it.”

Series: (The Sentinels #2.5, The Scorpius Syndrome #0.5, Immortal Guardians #5.5, Underworld Detection Agency #6.5)

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Four of today’s most intriguing paranormal authors entice readers deep into the shadows, where vampires, immortals, and other supernatural creatures heat up the night...
ON THE HUNT by Alexandra IvyMika Tanner has loved Bailey Morrell, a beautiful Healer, since childhood. But his duty as a Sentinel, a supernatural guardian of an ancient race, clashed with her rebellious spirit. Now a dangerous new anarchist group not only threatens life as they know it—but any chance of their being together again...
SCORPIUS RISING by Rebecca ZanettiWhile searching for a meteorite, Nora Mendina is arrested by her sheriff ex-husband—who's only gotten hotter than the Nevada desert since she last saw him. When the meteorite breaks open, the few survivors gain extraordinary powers, unleashing a crazed super genius killer. Can Nora and her ex stop the murders…while igniting a new love affair?
PHANTOM EMBRACE by Dianne DuvallImmortal Yuri Sokolov was born with the ability to see spirits, yet he's never seen one as lovely as Cat Seddon, the woman who haunts his home and his dreams. But amid their star-crossed love, a new danger may have Yuri facing a different kind of eternity.
STAKE OUT by Hannah JayneVampire fashion designer Nina LaShay has a lot on her plate—just two days until fashion week and the model who was flirting with her photographer boyfriend is now a corpse in her studio. But when dead turns into undead and dangerous, Nina must find out who’s responsible…before the beautiful baby vamp takes too many bites out of the Big Apple.
Just when you think that books can’t get any better, you get an anthology by 4 mind-blowing authors.

On The Hunt by Alexandra Ivy
We are taken into the Sentinels world where Mika Tanner, a hunter is tasked with solving a sudden disappearance of an apprentice. Fortunately for him, Bailey Morrell, his childhood friend and ex lover, may know more than she thinks. As a healer, Bailey sees more than she should and unfortunately for them, if they want to answers, they will have to work together to get them.

Although it was a short-ish story, On the Hunt didn’t disappoint. It was action packed, suspenseful, romantic, with an off the charts chemistry and many twists.

Mika and Bailey were incredible characters. They were total opposites with different beliefs about their kind which is what tore them apart in the first place. Mika wants to do his duty while Bailey is a free spirit. What a pair!

Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti
I was so very excited to read this particular story. Scorpius Rising is the prequel to Zanetti’s brand new series, Scorpius Syndrome and I really can’t wait for Mercury Striking, the first book (Jan 2016)

In case you don’t know, the Scorpius Syndrome series is a dystopian one so in this book we get to see how the world ends.

Nora Mendina is the best scientist in her field. When she’s called in a case she knows that she will need help to find a cure for this foreign virus. A virus that could very well be our end.

What is more chocking is the fact that it’s her ex-husband, Deke who brought her in to help. Nora will do anything to find a cure for the virus while Deke will fight for what they used to have. Nora and Deke were such a dynamic couple. I loved the way they worked together and how easily but steadily they came together once again.

The nightmare isn’t over yet. This is just the beginning and I loved it. I can’t wait for more.

Phantom embrace by Dianne Duvall
This is part of the Immortal Guardians series and tells the story of Yuri, an Immortal with the ability to see spirits and Cat Seddon, an unusual spirit.

Yuri knows to ignore the spirits he sees or else they find an opportunity to torment him. So when he sees the amiable spirit in David’s house, he can’t understand why Seth doesn’t banish it from the house until he finds out the truth.

Cat is Bastien’s dead sister. She was brutally murdered by her husband who tricked Bastien into believing that Roland killed her. Cat has nowhere to go but stay besides her brother. So when Yuri notices her, Cat is relieved that she has finally found someone to talk to but at the same time she’s anxious. She hasn’t talked with anyone for a very long time but with Yuri everything is different.

I think this was the most special story in the book. Don’t get me wrong, I loved all four stories but Phantom Embrace had a bittersweet HEA!

Stake out by Hannah Jayne

Hannah Jayne is the only new author for me in the anthology. I was a bit skeptic before reading her story but as soon as I read it I understood why she was part of this anthology: she ROCKS!

Nina LaShay is the best vampire fashion designer in New York. She is preparing for the fashion show when her model is attacked and turned into a vampire. With the help of her boyfriends and her nephews, Nina will have to find out who is attacking models and turns them before it’s too late.

Stake out was so much fun. I loved the suspense and all the action. I didn’t really connect with Nina but I loved her boyfriend and her nephews!

On the hunt was so much fun to read. It was an incredible, breathtaking and simply beautiful compilation of four mind-blowing stories.

 Bayou Heat Novellas:

RAGE Rage might be an aggressive Hunter by nature, but the gorgeous male has never had a problem charming the females. All except Lucie Gaudet. Of course, the lovely Geek is a born troublemaker, and it was no surprise to Rage when she was kicked out of the Wildlands. But now the Pantera need a first-class hacker to stop the potential destruction of their people. And it’s up to Rage to convince Lucie to help. Can the two forget the past—and their sizzling attraction—to save the Pantera? KILLIAN Gorgeous, brutal, aggressive, and human, Killian O’Roarke wants only two things: to get rid of the Pantera DNA he’s been infected with, and get back to the field. But the decorated Army Ranger never bargained on meeting the woman—the female—of his dreams on his mission to the Wildlands. Rosalie lost her mate to a human, and now the Hunter despises them all. In fact, she thinks they’re good for only one thing: barbeque. But this one she’s guarding is testing her beliefs. He is proud and kind, and also knows the pain of loss. But in a time of war between their species, isn’t any chance of love destined for destruction?
Review

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

We are taken once again to the mysterious and magical world of the Pantera, with two additional stories to the Bayou Heat series.

Rage by Alexandra Ivy
Rage is a hunter who is tasked with finding Lucie, a geek who was “kicked out” of the pack. Rage never forgot the girl who hid in the shadows, so when he tracks her down, the woman he finds is nothing like the wounded girl he remembers.

Lucie has moved on from her past. No one really knew who she was and when she broke the rules, she was forced to choose between behaving and leaving the pack. She chose the latter. No one will tell her what to do again. She can make her own decisions; live her life as she chooses. When Rage informs her about the online auction that’s about to release sensitive information about the Pantera, Lucie agrees to help but she has her own rules.

Rage and Lucie’s journey was amazing. They both had a lot to learn about each other and spending time together helped them do that.

Killian by Laura Wright
Best Pantera story yet!

Killian is a soldier who was tricked and was experimented on. He was injected with Pantera DNA and he has begun changing. In need of answers and a solution, he turns to the Pantera but as soon as he arrives he is attacked by Rosalie.

Rosalie hates the very mention of the world human and rightly so. The humans took from her the most important thing: her mate. No she will do anything to get her revenge, even if that means killing the arrogant and irritating human. When the truth is revealed though, Rosalie has no choice but to protect him.

Rage and Killian’s stories were two amazing additions to the series. Both stories had action, drama, suspense and romance. The Pantera are no closer to finding Christopher but at least more and more of their members find true happiness.

I can’t wait to read more of the Pantera.

Excerpt

“Why did you steal my diary?”

Lucie blinked. Wow. That was not at all what she’d been expecting.

She didn’t want to talk about the childish stunt. Not because it’d been embarrassing for him. He’d only become more popular with the females after they’d decided his private musings about his lovers somehow enhanced their reputations as desirable mates. Idiots. But because it revealed how desperately obsessed she’d been.

And still was, for that matter.

Acutely aware of his deepening curiosity, she forced herself to shrug. “I was a brat,” she said in light tones.

“No.” His fingers brushed through her hair, his touch achingly tender. “You were hurt and striking out. I’m just not sure why I was singled out for public humiliation.”

“Because…” The words stuck in her throat.

“Lucie?”

She heaved a resigned sigh. He wasn’t going to let it go. Not until he coerced her into revealing the painful truth.

“Because I had a crush on you,” she grudgingly muttered.

The violet eyes shimmered with flecks of gold as the dawning sun splashed through the windows.

“A crush?”

She grimaced. She might as well confess the rest. If she were being honest, she probably owed him.

“Don’t act surprised. You had to sense that I watched you from the trees.”

“I thought you were plotting my death.”

“I was young and impressionable, and I was fascinated.” Her gaze ran over his lean, perfect features. “You were so gorgeous.”

“True.” He grunted as she elbowed him in the gut. “Ow.”

“But it was more than that,” she finished her confession. “You had a…kindness that I desperately wanted for myself.”

His teasing expression melted to one of regret, his fingers sliding over the curve of her shoulder.

“I would happily have been kind to you if you hadn’t bolted whenever I got near you,” he murmured.

She believed him. Rage might have been spoiled, but he’d never been deliberately cruel. His nature was to protect the weak and vulnerable.

“I didn’t know how to tell you,” she admitted with a wry smile. “So instead I struck out.”

His fingers drifted down her collarbone, his enticing musk scenting the air. “From now on, I have a better way for you to express your feelings for me.”

She instantly stiffened. It was one thing to confess her feelings when she’d been an idiotic youth. There was no way she was going to share the fact he’d never left her dreams.

“Who said I still have feelings for you?” she belligerently demanded, ignoring the fact that she was lying naked in his arms. “That was a long time ago.”

He chuckled, not fooled for a second. Damn him.

About Alexandra Ivy

Alexandra Ivy
Alexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Todaybestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library. Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on. Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold! I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

About Laura Wright
Laura Wright
Laura Wright is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”

Review: Burned by Darkness (Dragons of Eternity #1) by Alexandra Ivy

Title: Burned by Darkness
Author: Alexandra Ivy
Series: Dragons of Eternity #1

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
The Dragons of Eternity were once creatures of myth and legend. Now they’ve returned to the world, prepared to claim what’s rightfully theirs…
Tayla is desperate for a place to call home. After years on the run, the young imp impulsively buys a teahouse and is determined to build a new life. Unfortunately, she’s barely opened the doors when she’s tracked down by the dragon who purchased her from troll slave-traders. He demands she pay off her debts…in his harem.
Baine has devoted a quarter of a century to tracking down his beautiful concubine. And now that he has her in his grasp, he’s not about to let her go. But it’s soon apparent that he isn’t the only demon hunting her. He must uncover her secrets or risk losing her forever.
When the Guardians of Eternity series ended I was really sad to let it go but then I found out that I wouldn’t need to since the author decided to write a spin off. I was so damn excited!!!

The Dragons of eternity series book number one tells the story of Tayla, an imp and Baine, a dragon shifter.

Twenty five years ago, Tayla was kidnapped from her father’s shop where she worked and she was later sold to dragons by the trolls. What no one knew was that Tayla had a special gift and thus managed to escape from the dragon realm. But just because she escaped doesn’t mean she’s free. Tayla has been on the run for 25 years and the only thing she desires is a place to call home.

When Baine purchased the beautiful young imp the trolls sold to his father, the life he knew was over. The beautiful imp may have escaped once but now Baine has found her and he won’t lose her again.

Burned by darkness was beyond amazing. It was exploding! The chemistry was off the charts and so was the temperature.

I did have some reservations before reading the book because of my love/hate relationship with dragons. It’s not often that I happen to like dragons. I love supernatural creatures, dragons included but in most dragon books I’ve read (mostly romantic ones) they didn’t impress me. Of course there was Dragon Bound, which I loved but my point is that good explosive dragon, romance books are hard for me to find. So I was cautious about this book.

Burned by darkness isn’t only a romance. It had action, twists, mystery, suspense, very well guarded secrets, creatures that will make your skin crawl and incredible characters.

We get to see a lot of Levet. He was real fun to have around. There is also Char, Baine’s best friend and second hand who was great too.

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed reading Burned by Darkness and I can’t wait to read more!

I don’t know who’s next but I’m hoping is Char or someone equally awesome.

Highly recommended!

ARC Review: Stolen and Forgiven (Branded Packs #1) by Alexandra Ivy, Carrie Ann Ryan

Title: Stolen and Forgiven
Author: Alexandra Ivy , Carrie Ann Ryan
Series: Branded Packs #1

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
Stolen
The first rule of being Alpha of the Canine Pack is to protect their secrets from the humans at all cost. One look at the dying human at his doorstep and Holden Carter knows he will have to break it. The broken woman with no hope at survival is his mate. When he forces the change on her to save her life, he not only sets forth motions that could risk both their lives, but the lives of every shifter in the world.
Ariel Sands grew up in a post-Verona infection world and under the care of the very humans she thought had cured the disease. When they betray her in the worst ways imaginable, she finds herself not only mated to the Alpha of a the very species she’s been taught to fear, but the focal point of a traitor and path to destruction for everyone’s way of life. It will take more than trust and a mating bond for Ariel and Holden to not only survive their enemies, but the burn of their own temptations.
Forgiven
Soren Slater is a Beta wolf who understands that duty to his Pack comes before his own needs. At a young age he takes a position as a liaison between his Pack and the other species of shifters. He never expected his enticing flirtations with Cora Wilder, a Tiger Princess, would encourage her cat to consider him a potential mate. He’s forced to walk away, choosing a partner among the wolves to try and strengthen his Pack.
Cora has no intention of forgiving or forgetting Soren’s rejection. Not even when the Packs are forced to live together and she discovers Soren’s former mate has died. But then, she’s kidnapped by the SAU and she has no choice but to work with Soren to escape. Together they must put the past behind them if they’re to survive the human’s evil plot
A brand new series by one of my top 5 authors, Alexandra Ivy and a fabulous soon-to-become a favorite new author to me, Carrie Ann Ryan.

Stolen and Forgiven is a paranormal (kind of dystopian) book. Twenty five years ago, a virus called the Verona Virus nearly wiped out humanity. It was at that time that the shifters decided to come out and help since they were immune to the virus. Instead of finding peace though, humans used their blood to destroy the virus and made the shifters appear as savages to the public. They collared and forced them to live as animals in compounds. Each pack is suffering and especially now as they are forced to shared their barely enough space with other shifters.

Stolen

Holder Carter is the alpha of the River Pack. He is struggling to keep his pack from revolving because he knows that although they are stronger than humans, they could very well lose their weaker member such as their submissive, the elders and the children. Holder is aware that the guards of the SAU (shifter accommodation unit) will do anything to get a chance to blame them for something and thus punish them by killing them.

So, when he finds a dying woman on their compound, he knows that the humans left her there to die and accuse them of killing her. He can’t be surprised by their tactics but he sure damn can be when he realizes that the dying woman is his mate.

Holder never thought that he would find his mate especially now that they are imprisoned in the compounds. His mate is a step away from death and Holder has no choice but to save her. He waited forever for her and he’s not about to lose her. Turning her might be her only chance at survival but it will also put his pack in grave danger and for an alpha his pack always comes first.

The scientists working for SAU have long wanted to find a way to turn humans. If they see that the human they left for dead is now a shifter, holder knows that his pack will be slaughtered to uncover their most sacred secret.

I loved Stolen, I loved Holder and I loved Ariel (his mate). I loved everything. Holder was such a great alpha. He would sacrifice everything for his pack and Ariel (I love he name!). Ariel was very strong too. She was kidnapped from her home and later taken to the SAU labs to be experimented on. She was tortured by the very humans who had promised to protect her. The irony!

Holder and Ariel were just amazing!

Forgiven

Forgiven tells the story of Soren, Holder’s second in command, his Beta and the princess of the Golden pack, Cora Wilder.

Soren and Cora have loved each other in the past but then Soren had to do his duty to the pack and marry one of their own to keep the pack’s stability. Cora never forgave Soren for his betrayal. He seduced her, made promises to her but then he turned his back on her and married one of his pack members.

Now forced to share the same territory and with Soren’s mate dead, Soren wants to make up for the mistake that cost him the woman he loves. He always felt guilty about leaving Cora but he would never disrespect the memory of his mate. Cora may be stubborn but she can’t deny the chemistry that still exists between them.

Soren wants Cora to be his mate but he will take anything that she’s willing to offer and in this case a friends with benefits deal. What neither anticipates is the threat that SAU still poses. They still need the shifters to “help” them turn humans and Cora is their perfect prey, daughter of an alpha and soon to become mate of a Beta, both men would do anything for her.

Stolen and Forgiven were beyond incredible. I loved both stories and I can’t wait for Abandoned and Unseen (September 2015).

Review: Michel/Striker (Bayou Heat #15-16) by Alexandra Ivy, Laura Wright

Title: Michel/Striker
Author: Alexandra IvyLaura Wright
Series: Bayou Heat #15-16

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
MICHEL
Michel doesn’t trust Dr. Chelsea Young. Why should he? She willingly worked as a researcher for the humans who were using Pantera as lab animals. Unfortunately, his suspicions haven’t kept his cat from becoming obsessed with the need to possess the beautiful female.
Chelsea is determined to atone for her youthful mistakes. Even if that means working with the aggravating Michel who refuses to believe she now wants to help the Pantera. Together they must overcome their mutual animosity to track down her former boss, Stanton Locke, before he can commit the ultimate betrayal.

STRIKER
Dark, damaged and definitely gorgeous, Striker is all about the mission. And when the mission’s over? The Hunter is out of there. That is, until one of Locke’s lab rats is forced on him—a beautiful, pained female who needs sex to survive.
The lovely Twelve was abducted and taken to the labs several years ago. Used for breeding, she was given drugs that make her irresistible to males. It was a hellish, lonely life. But she’s free now, and determined to discover the truth about her past. If only the road to that truth didn’t involve the heartless male she can’t stop herself from wanting.
After so many dreamy heroes you would think that there can’t be others but you’re wrong! Michel and Striker’s stories were equally if more amazing from the other Bayou Heat books.

Michel by Alexandra Ivy
Michel is a Suit, a spy and as such he can’t but be suspicious of Dr. Chelsea Young. Chelsea used to work for Locke in the Labs where they would experiment on abducted Pantera. Chelsea never agreed with the way the Pantera or the human experiments were handled. That’s why she got out of Locke’s world and was thrust into the Pantera world. Now she will have to face the consequences.

Forced into working with Chelsea, Michel will have to keep himself under control if he wants to bring down Locke and his Master. There’s no one better to help him than the person who has closely worked with Locke.

Michel and Chelsea’s story may be a short one but it had everything. Exploding passion, a yummy hero, a strong heroine, action and a bit of suspense.

Striker by Laura Wright

That was a big WOW!

From the very first page you could tell this wasn’t going to be your average romance.

Twelve, aka Seleste, has been in the labs for a very long time. She remembers nothing of her past than her number and her need. When Striker is asked to take care of her, it’s his duty to comply.

This was beyond anything I expected to get. Striker’s story was so different from the other Pantera ones. There is chemistry and there is passion and Striker and Seleste had both. Striker wants nothing more than to help twelve remember her past and thus herself. He will give her his body and nothing more. Or so he thinks.

Seleste wants to move on but first she will have to remember the person she was in the past so she can face her future. She wants nothing more than to have her memories and she will do everything to get them.

Both Seleste and Striker were so strong characters. Seleste had suffered so much: she was tortured and psychologically damaged that she only wanted to move on with her life. Striker was betrayed in the worst way possible. He was burned by love and he is smarter than to repeat the same mistake twice.

Michel/Striker was an excellent addition to the series. The Pantera is closer on bringing the Master down. Does that mean that the end is close too? I hope not.

Totally recommended!

ARC Review: When Darkness Ends (Guardians of Eternity #12) by Alexandra Ivy

Title: When Darkness Ends
Author: Alexandra Ivy
Series: Guardians of Eternity #12

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Cyn, the vampire clan chief of Ireland, is an unabashed hedonist whose beauty is surpassed only by his insatiable appetite for pleasure. It’s no wonder he’s furious when he’s transported from the magical land of the pureblooded feys to his desolate private lair—only to have his very existence thrown into a chaos that even he cannot charm his way out of…
Most women may be all but powerless against Cyn, but Fallon, a sharp-witted fairy princess, is less than beguiled by the silver-tongued vampire. She’s a serious soul with no time for the sort of games he plays—especially when they learn that someone is trying to close the veil that separates the dimensions. But seduction may prove the most powerful force of all, as attraction ignites between the unlikely pair even as worlds are colliding around them…
“I’ve waited for you for longer than you could ever possibly imagine”
I think I say this for every Alexandra Ivy book but it feels like I’ve waited forever for this book. I know it hasn’t been that long but every time I’m waiting for a Guardians of Eternity book to come out, time doesn’t seem to pass. I believe that the main reason I feel this way is because I know that I’m going to love the characters and the book. I’, also not a very patient person when it comes to book!

Cyn, the vampire clan chief of Ireland and Fallon, Sally’s sister and the Chatri princess are in a lot of trouble. The Oracles are being manipulated by a strange threat and Siljar demands that Fallon and Cyn find and eliminate the threat before it’s too late. Someone pulls the strings, he wants to control the Oracles and make them cast a spell that will eventually result in the death of all demons. Cyn and Fallon will have to figure out who the threat is or else they all will be doomed.

This was… I have no words! It was just fabulous. It captured my attention from the very beginning and in the end it made me feel nostalgic. Cyn and Fallon were the best couple. Even from the previous book there was something between them that it just couldn’t be ignored. Their competitive relationship, their arrogance and stubbornness, their determination and protectiveness were what captivated me.

Cyn was a great leader but when he was around Fallon he forgot everything. The bond between them was a strong one even if they denied its existence. You could tell they were in sync from the very beginning.

I could go on and on about my love for Cyn and Fallon but I really want to talk about the secondary characters. There were plenty characters from the previous books. Almost every character in the series is mentioned but there were only a few who had an important role in the book. Styx, Viper, Dante even Levet were some of the active secondary characters. We also get to meet Fallon’s fiancĂ©, Magnus. I have to admit that I wasn’t such a huge fan of his in the beginning but as you get to know him better, which you will, you will just love him too. I don’t want to say much about his character but he is more arrogant than Cyn and I think that says a lot.

The end made me feel so nostalgic. I can’t believe that this is the end of the series. The end of the book was perfect, I had no problem with the book I just can’t believe that it’s over. The book totally prepares you for the end of the series but still I can’t say that I’m not sad. I’ve been following this series since the first book came out. I always waited for the next book to be released, always loved the stories and every unique character and now I just can’t let that feeling go. To say that it was an incredible journey would be an understatement!

When Darkness Ends will totally satisfy you. The last book in the Guardians of Eternity series is nothing but perfect. Action- packed, full of suspense, romance, a sexy arrogant, bad-ass alpha hero and an equally stubborn heroine. This book is a must read (actually the whole series is a must read).

Just read it! Highly recommended!
