Review: White Hot Kiss (The Dark Elements #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: White Hot Kiss
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: The Dark Elements #1

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

One kiss could be the last.

Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal. But with a kiss that kills anything with a soul, she's anything but normal. Half demon, half gargoyle, Layla has abilities no one else possesses.

Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.

Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.

But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne… it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.
“You need something," he said, and when I stared at him, he added, "Your face."
"My face?"
"It's in need of my kisses.”
First off, let me start by saying that ever since I read Obsidian, Armentrout has become one of my favourite authors. I buy her books without a second thought and I always love them. White Hot Kiss was no exception.

Layla, our heroine, lives with the Wardens ( gargoyles who hunt and kill demons in order to protect humankind) despite being a halfing (half demon and hald warden). As far as she can remember herself, she was always taught to hate demons and that led her to ignore her demon side. Thus she has always felt as an outsider. Zayne, her only warden friend and her secret crush, is the only one who never treated her as half demon, he’s the only one who makes her feel normal. Until him…

Roth, a powerful demon, bursts into her life at the most unsuitable time. Roth is the total anthithesis of Zayne. Heavily tattooed and pierced, Roth walks into her life with the promise of showing her, her real legacy. Layla has always wondered about her demon, especially now that her demon powers are getting stronger and she can’t seem to be able to control them. So when Roth shows up, she can’t resist.

This book was mind blowing. Words aren’t enough to express how I felt about this book. It was abso-fucking-lutely amazing. Layla was a very intriguing character. She was neither a warden nor a demon. She was the best of both. She was very protective of those she loved and despite what everyone thought of her, she always managed to be confident.

Roth was another story altogether. As always Armentrout has created a flawless (yet sometimes imperfect ) character. As opposed to some readers, I was never torn between Zayne and Roth. Zayne may have been the wise and safe choise for Layla but Roth was her “mate”. He was charming, funny, protective and just amazing. I wish he was real so I could claim him. I fell for him almost from the very beginning. But aside from all his charm , Roth wasn’t without his secrets. It was interesting unravelling each and every of them.

White hot kiss just became my favourite read from J. Armentrout. It was everything I expected and more. A YA filled with gargoyles, demons, romance and humor. I’ll try to patiently wait for the sequel despite that unexpected end!

Highly recommended!

Review: Be with Me (Wait for You #2) by J. Lynn, Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Be with Me
Series: Wait for You #2

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.
Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.
As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

“I didn’t care about them. Not like I care about you, Tess. I want this- I want us to be different. I want us to mean more than sex. I need us to mean more than that. Okay?”
Be with me is the second book in the incredible wait for me series by J. Lynn. This book tells the story of Tess, Cam's little sister and Jase, Cam's bff.

Tess and Jase have known each other forever. Ever since Jase met her, he's been dreaming of having her. But he always knew she was off limits for him.

Tess could never forget her first kiss. Not because it was abso-fucking-lutely amazing (which it was) but because it was Jase kissing her. Tess has always had a little crush on her brother's best friend. Now that they are both on the same college campus it's much harder to keep their distance. So instead of persuing something more they become "friends". Jase offers to help Tess around since she has injured her knee which means spending more time together which means that "let's be friends" isn't really working for them. So they try for more...

Jase and Tess together are like fireworks! Really! In the beginning they tried to hide their relationship from the others (mostly Avery and Cam) and they succeeded but not for a very long time. Let's just say that Cam isn't very understanding that a ladies man like Jasse is "messing" with his sister. But for Jasse, Tess isn't just a another girl, she's unique. They were so amazing together!!! They both had to go through many obstacles but they managed to overcome them and be together.

One of the things I really loved was Jase's brother. He was just soooo cute and believe me he had a very important role to the book. I can't say I was really shocked when his role was revealed but it was still a surprise for me!

Once Jase and Tess had no secrets between them they were HOT! They were such an amazing couple, really mature for their age but still after everything they had to go through, I think that was expected.

Be with me was another 5 star read for me! Filled with romance, a bit of suspense and a playboy Be with me will amaze you. I can't wait to read Stay with me, Calla's book. She really was an intriguing character.

As always a J. Lynn book is always highly recommended!!

Review: Opposition (Lux #5) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Opposition
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Lux #5

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.
She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.
Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.
They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.
War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

“It’s not like I’m going to run up and hug him.”

“I’d sure hope not. I might get jealous.”

“You’d get jealous if she hugged a tree,”

“Maybe...I’m needy like that.”

I can't believe that this is the end! Don't get me wrong I loved the book but I really didn't want this series to end...

Opposition begins where Origin left off. After the alien invension and the disappearance of Daemon, Dawson and Dee, Katy is trying to find a way to reconnect with them and guess what?! Katy gets her wish but things aren't as simple as before. Daemon doesn't want to fight his people but how can he not when they are all out of control and killing humans?! Maybe the arum were never the enemies and maybe the only way to save the earth is to finally cooperate with them...

This book had so much going on. It was packed with action (lots of it), suspense, humor and Daemon Black and his kitten. I think I'll never get over Daemon and his devotion. His love for Kat was never in question, at least for me. They were such a cute couple from the beginning of the series till the very end. So yeah, Daemon surely made it to my fav book boyfriends list!

This was trully an epic series and not only for Daemon and Kat but for the secondary characters as well. I really loved Dee although, at the beginning of the book her behavior was very confusing, Dawson and Beth were both amazing characters and I'm very glad they got they HEA, Archer I just adored and many other characters. I can say that I was very happy to see some very unexpected characters in this book such as Hunter and Serena!!! I don't want to spoil anything about their involvement in the book but I can say that they rocked (arum aren't always the bad guys!).

Obsidian was the very first book I read by Jennifer Armentrout and I can't belive that this journey has come to an end. I'm not going to say anything more because I really don't want to spoil the book for you. This final book is going to amaze you. It surely amazed me. Never saw that coming.

If you're new to the series then go pick it up. If you're debating whether or not to read the final book in the series then try to avoid the spoilers but really just read it as well. You have no idea what you're missing...

Goodbuy Daemon and Kat! I was great (actually more than great!)

EXCERPT

 Katy
I still stared at Daemon, completely aware that everyone else except him was watching me. Closely. But why wouldn’t he look at me? A razor-sharp panic clawed at my insides. No. Thiscouldn’t be happening. No way.
My body was moving before I even knew what I was doing. From the corner of my eye, I saw Dee shake her head and one of the Luxen males step forward, but I was propelled by an inherent need to prove that my worst fears were not coming true.
After all, he’d healed me, but then I thought of what Dee had said, of how Dee had behaved with me. What if Daemon was like her? Turned into something so foreign and cold? He would’ve healed me just to make sure he was okay. I still didn’t stop.
Please, I thought over and over again. Please. Please. Please. On shaky legs, I crossed the long room, and even thoughDaemon hadn’t seemed to even acknowledge my existence, I walked right up to him, my hands trembling as I placed them on his chest.
“Daemon?” I whispered, voice thick. His head whipped around, and he was suddenly staring down at me. Our gazes collided once more, and for a second I saw something so raw, so painful in those beautiful eyes. And then his large hands wrapped around my upper arms. The contact seared through the shirt I wore, branding my skin, and I thought—I expected—that he would pull me against him, that he would embrace me, and even though nothing would be all right, it would be better. Daemon’s hands spasmed around my arms, and I sucked in an unsteady breath.
His eyes flashed an intense green as he physically lifted me away from him, setting me back down a good foot back. I stared at him, something deep in my chest cracking. “Daemon?” He said nothing as he let go, one finger at a time, it seemed, and his hands slid off my arms. He stepped back, returning his attention to the man behind the desk. “So . . . awkward,” murmured the redhead, smirking. I was rooted to the spot in which I stood, the sting of rejection burning through my skin, shredding my insides like I was nothing more than papier-mâché.
“I think someone was expecting more of a reunion,” the Luxen male behind the desk said, his voice ringing with amusement. “What do you think, Daemon?” One shoulder rose in a negligent shrug. “I don’t think anything.” My mouth opened, but there were no words. His voice, his tone, wasn’t like his sister’s, but like it had been when we first met. He used to speak to me with barely leashed annoyance, where a thin veil of tolerance dripped from every word. The rift in my chest deepened.
For the hundredth time since the Luxen arrived, SergeantDasher’s warning came back to me.
What side would Daemon and his family stand on? A shudder worked its way down my spine. I wrapped my arms around myself, unable to truly process what had just happened. “And you?” the man asked. When no one answered, he tried again. “Katy?” I was forced to look at him, and I wanted to shrink back from his stare. “What?” I was beyond caring that my voice broke on that one word. The man smiled as he walked around the desk.
My gaze flickered over to Daemon as he shifted, drawing the attention of the beautiful redhead. “Were you expecting a more personal greeting?” he asked. “Perhaps something more intimate?” I had no idea how to answer. I felt like I’d fallen into the rabbit hole, and warnings were firing off left and right. Something primal inside me recognized that I was surrounded by predators.

Don't miss the books that started it all...

Review: Trust in Me (Wait for You #1.5) by J. Lynn, Jennifer L. Armentrout

By J. Lynn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Favourite Quote:

"Avery was such a mystery to me; a paradox of innocence and allure—a mystery I was determined to solve."
I loved this book from the first page till the last. So many emotions, so passionate, so perfect!

I'm sure that if you want to read this book, you've probably read Wait for You cause if you don't please look the other way!!!

Trust in Me basically tells the same story but this book is from Cam's POV only. In Wait for You we read Avery's side of the story and it's finally time to read Cam's...

Although we already know why Avery has a difficulty trusting people and letting them into her life, in this book we get to see firsthand how much effort Cam made to gain her trust.

Whatever I say will not do justice to this STUPENDOUS read! I devoured this book. I stayed up all night reading it and it was worth it. Many will say that it's just the same book with the previous in the series but they are soooooo wrong. I'll admit that there were times that many scenes were repeated but it was so thrilling reading an entire book by two extremely different perspectives, such different characters. There were moments that Avery annoyed me a little bit, but having already "heard" her thoughts, it totally understandable and besides that she made it up in the end.

Cam, dear Cam! There are no words to describe how perfect this man was. He's so patient, so charming, adorable, lovable and kissable. He loved Avery with such force and I loved the fact that despite everything, he waited for her (and I was so so sorry for him...) but thank got we have a HEA. I loved Cam in Wait for You but reading his POV ruined me for any other book-boyfriend.

"Avery . . . hell, she completely undid me."

As far as the secondary characters are concerned, I'll have to say that in Trust in Me we get to see some new scenes featuring Cam's friends and family. Yep, you guessed right!!! More Jase and Ollie (I don't know if they are right for our health though). I really can’t wait to read Jase and Teresa’s story and maybe (maybe) a story for Ollie as well.

Trust in Me is a book that leaves you wanting more. You won't be disappointed (provided that you've read the previous book of course). It was so amazing being in Cam´s head. He was so open to everything, very kind, caring, warm-hearted, gentle, compassionate, sympathetic, understanding, he baked and cooked and above everything else.... he had a turtoise as a pet (I don't think we can ask for more).

"Holy shit, Strawberry Shortcake just ran me over. "

So yeah, definitely on my top-ten book-boyfriends!

Highly recommended!!!

PS: Do you think it's too much if I ask for another novella??? (I don't think it is!)

You guy’s ready for some Cam? Here you go…

****

Sharp need punched right through me as her body slid down my front. My hands tightened on her hips and she tipped her head back. Her eyes darkened to a deep chocolate brown, and my brain clicked off as I somehow tugged her closer. I knew she had to feel my arousal, and considering we hadn’t even kissed, something about that seemed wrong, but I couldn’t let her go.

Her hands pressed against my chest, and I thought she was going to push me away, and swore to God right then and there, no matter how hard it would be, I would let her go if she did.

But she didn’t.

Avery’s hands flattened against my chest, above my pounding heart, and she had to have felt it.

My hand moved on its own accord, curving up her waist and then over her arm, to her throat and then her cheek. She gasped when my fingertips grazed her cheeks, catching the hair stuck to her temples. I tucked the strands back behind her ears, my hand lingering.

“You’re soaked.”

“So are you.”

I smoothed my thumb over the slant of her cheek. “I guess we’re going to have to try this another night.”

“Yeah,” she whispered as her eyes flickered shut and then swept back open.

“Maybe we should’ve checked the weather first.” When she smiled, I shifted my hips in response. Her body shuddered in such a mind-blowing way and her lashes lowered. Her lips parted even further, and I didn’t want to let her go. She felt too good this close.

Her chest rose in short, deep breaths as I lowered my head, wanting and needing to kiss her. Just once. That’s all I wanted. My eyes started to drift closed.

Avery suddenly jerked back, pressing a hand between her breasts. “I think we … we should call it a night.”

For a moment I couldn’t move and then leaned back, tipping my head against the wall. It took a couple of moments before I could speak. “Yeah, we should.”

The trip out of the building and back to the apartment wasn’t easy. I was still strung tight as a bow. Nothing seemed to make the raw edge go away. I tried reciting the alphabet backwards, tried thinking about the old lady who lived in the building nearby, who sometimes walked her dog in a white nightgown. The sight was not pretty, but it still didn’t work.

The rain was still coming down as we dashed across the parking lot and under the awning. I shook my head, spraying water everywhere. Avery stopped at the base of the stairwell leading up to our apartments, and I thought it was all the rain I’d just pelted her with. I opened my mouth to apologize, but she turned sideways, her face pale as she peered up at me.

A very different kind of ache sliced through my chest, stirring up that knot in there, at the stark confusion and fear in her eyes. Fear. I didn’t get it. Had I done that to her? No. I couldn’t believe that. Not the way she had reacted to me. I saw it in her eyes. She had wanted me to kiss her, probably even as badly as I wanted to kiss her, but she had pulled away because … I honestly didn’t know.

I thrust my hand through my hair, pulling it off my forehead. “Go out with me.”

“No,” she whispered.

I grinned slightly, and her chest fell, her shoulders relaxed, as if she needed to hear this. “There’s always tomorrow.”

She followed me up the stairs. “Tomorrow’s not going to change anything.”

“We’ll see.”

“There’s nothing to see. You’re wasting your time.”

“When it concerns you, it’s never a waste of my time.”

And that was the damn truth.

Sneak Peek: Trust In Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Amazon | Barnes and Noble

Jase Winstead was a cruel motherfucker.Going to Ass-tronomy 101was the last thing I wanted to be doing at nine in the damn morning, especially since all the class did was remind me of the first time I entered Professor Drage’s class and why I’d made a hasty, unplanned exit my freshman year. And I really didn’t need Jase’s taunting text messages about why scheduling classes before noon was unhealthy.Considering I was going on—oh, I don’t know, two hours of sleep—and I could still taste the tequila and other things I really didn’t want to even think about from last night, I was currently a walking poster child for how not to have a healthy and happy first day of fall classes.I watched the door to astronomy swing shut and then glanced back down at my phone. Jase’s text mocked me.Skip. I have beer. X-Box. FIFA ’13Well, shit. That was hella tempting. Ollie had trashed our Xbox the weekend before, during a brutal showdown of Call of Duty.I was a few minutes late for class.Astronomy, or soccer on the Box? Not really a tough call.Mind made up, I pivoted around and started to respond back to Jase when the double doors flung open like a tornado had ripped through the stairwell. My head jerked up just in time to see something small and something red come barreling straight at me.There was no stopping the collision.A little body smacked right into me and bounced back, arms flailing like a drowning victim. The bag, which looked like it weighed more than the owner, toppled her over.Reacting out of instinct, I shot forward, dropping my own bag and wrapping my arm around her waist, but the backpack went in one direction, the contents in the other. She was still reeling, like one of those inflatable pop bags. I tightened my hold, stilling her before she did some serious damage to herself. She jerked upright. Deep auburn hair flew forward, snapping me in the face. The scent of berries and something musky and good filled me.Holy shit, Strawberry Shortcake just ran me over.I chuckled and slipped my cell into my pocket, about to let her go, but the girl locked up. Every muscle seemed to go rigid. As tiny as she was, barely reaching my shoulders, she seemed to suddenly get smaller, shrinking into herself. Was she hurt? And did she somehow mistake Shepherd for a nearby middle school?“Whoa,” I said. “You okay, sweetheart?”No response for about a half minute, and I started to get real concerned. Then she dragged in a deep breath, causing her chest to rise flush against mine. I froze at the feel of her curves. Definitely not a middle schooler, unless they were developing in ways they hadn’t when I was there. And, if so, I was fucking envious of those boys.Okay, now I felt like I needed a shower, because even that disturbed me.Was I still drunk from last night? I was going to go with a yes.“Hey,” I tried again, voice lower. “Are you okay?” When there was still no response, I pressed two fingers under her chin. Her skin was soft and too cool. Wondering if it was possible for a person to pass out and remain standing, I gently lifted her head, my mouth opening to ask her again, but words died somewhere between my brain and my mouth.I blinked, because like a total dumbass, I thought that would change what I was seeing. Not that I wanted to change what I was seeing, but damn …What guy didn’t have a soft spot for a redhead?Pretty was too weak of a word to describe her. Her eyes were large and the color of warm whiskey. Freckles dotted the bridge of her small nose and her cheeks were well defined. Lips were a sweet cherry color and wide for her face, full and plump. The kind of lips that belonged to the kind of mouth that could and would bring a man—“Let. Go. Of. Me.”The hardness of her voice, laced with barely controlled panic, caused me to immediately drop her arm and take a healthy step back. She swayed a little at the loss of support, and I almost reached for her again, but I valued my balls. One day I’d like to have a kid or some shit, and I had a feeling if I touched her again, that would not be in my future.Pushing strands of thick hair out of her face, she cautiously stepped away from her bag. Thick lashes specked with red lifted, and, for a moment, neither of us moved and then her gaze moved over my face and then down. Chick was blatantly checking me out.Perhaps my balls weren’t in danger.A pretty pink flush spread across her cheeks. “I’m sorry. I was in a hurry to get to class. I’m late and …”I grinned as I knelt down, gathering up the spilled items. How one girl could have so many damn pens was beyond me. Blue. Purple. Black. Red. Orange. What the fuck? Who wrote with an orange pen?She joined me, grabbing the rest of her pens as her head tilted in a way that a wall of coppery hair shielded her face. “You don’t have to help me.”“It’s no problem.” I picked up a slip of paper that turned out to be her schedule. Quick glance at the classes confirmed she was a freshman. “Astronomy 101? I’m heading that way, too.”Jase and beer and FIFA ’13 were going to have to wait.“You’re late.” She was still hiding behind her hair. “I really am sorry.”Picking up her last notebook, I shoved it into the bag and stood. I handed it back to her, willing her to look up. I don’t know why, call me a mama’s boy, but I liked my girls smiling and not appearing like they were on the verge of tears. “It’s okay. I’m used to having girls throw themselves at me.” Her chin lifted up just the slightest, and my grin spread. “Trying to jump on my back is new, though. Kind of liked it.”Her head jerked up and all that hair slid back. “I wasn’t trying to jump on your back or throw myself at you.”“You weren’t?” My phone vibrated in my pocket. I ignored it. “Well, that’s a shame. If so, it would have made this the best first day of class in history.”She studied me as she clutched her bag to her chest, and my gaze dropped to the piece of paper I held. “Avery Morgansten?”“How do you know my name?” she snapped. What a touchy little thing. “It’s on your schedule.”“Oh.” She tucked her hair back and a slight tremor rocked her hand as she took the schedule. When I was little, my mom said I had a soft spot for the underdog. Wounded pigeons. Three-legged dogs. Skinny pigs. My sister was the same way. We had a sixth sense when it came to rooting them out, and I may not have known jack about this chick, but she was obviously new to this school, obviously uncomfortable, obviously having a shitty start to her day, and I felt bad for her.“My name is Cameron Hamilton,” I told her. “But everyone calls me Cam.”Her lips moved like she was repeating my name, and I sort of liked how that looked. “Thank you again, Cam.”Bending down, I picked up my bag and slung it over my shoulder. Knocking my hair out of my face, I smiled the kind of smile that usually got me what I wanted. “Well, let’s make our grand entrance.”I’d made it to the door to astronomy when I realized she hadn’t moved. Glancing over my shoulder, I frowned as she started to back away. “You’re going in the wrong direction, sweetheart.”“I can’t,” she croaked out.“Can’t what?” I faced her.Avery’s eyes met mine for a second and then she spun around and ran. Bag thumping off her hip, hair flying like a cape. The chick ran, actually freaking ran. My mouth dropped open. What in the hell had just happened? The door opened behind me, and a deep, slightly accented voice called out. “Mr. Hamilton, are you joining us today?”Shit. I closed my eyes.“Or are you planning to stand in the hallway the remaining time?” Professor Drage asked.Sighing, I turned around. “Joining the class, clearly.”“Clearly,” the professor repeated, holding a stack of stapled papers. “Syllabus.”I took one and then, on second thought, I took another. Just in case Avery Morgansten showed her face again.

Jase leaned against the back of my truck, one hand shoved through his brown hair, holding it off his glistening forehead. Several strands stuck straight up between his fingers. “It’s as hot as balls.”For late August, it was sweltering. Not even the shade provided by the large oaks surrounding the back parking lot across from White Hall provided any relief. I was dreading opening the door to the sweatbox.“Truest thing you’ve ever spoken.” Ollie squinted up at the trees. “It’s so hot the only answer is to get naked.”My gaze went to him. “You’re already as naked as you need to be, dude.”Ollie glanced down at himself and grinned. No shirt. Shorts hanging low. Flip-flops. Nothing else. “You know damn well I could get more naked.”Unfortunately that was true. We’d shared a three-bedroom apartment in University Heights for the last three years. Within a week of living together, Ollie had said screw it to modesty. I’d seen the guy’s junk more times then I cared to even think about. He was graduating in the spring, as I should’ve been, and I was going to miss the idiot.“Ticket.” Jase nodded at my windshield.I sighed, looking over. A cream-colored slip of paper was neatly placed under my wiper. The parking lot was reserved for staff, but with the lack of parking around these parts, I helped myself to whatever spot I could find. “I’ll add it to my collection.”“Which is massive.” Ollie pulled a band off his wrist and tugged his shoulder-length blond hair into a ponytail. “So, party tonight at our place?”My brows shot up. “Huh?”Jase grinned as he folded his arms across his chest.“It’s a back-to-school party.” Ollie stretched, cracking his back as he yawned. “Just a little get-together.”“Oh God.”Jase’s grin spread, and I wanted to knock it off his face. The last time Ollie had had a ‘little get-together’ it had been standing room only in our apartment. Cops might have been involved.“Order some pizza. I need to get—” Ollie stopped midsentence and turned toward a curvy brunette walking past. In a blink of an eye, he ditched us and was dropping an arm around the girl’s shoulders. “Hey, girl, hey.”The brunette giggled, wrapping an arm around Ollie’s waist.I turned, raising my hands. “What?”“Lost cause.” Jase rolled his eyes. “That fucker has eyes in the back of his head when it comes to girls.”“Very true.”“How he gets laid on a regular basis is beyond me.”“It’s the greatest mystery in life.” I loped around the front of my truck, grabbed the ticket, and then opened the driver’s door. Heat blew into my face. “Damn.”Jase angled his body toward me. “What happened with you today? You didn’t respond to my text. Thought the FIFA hooked you in.”“Aw, did you miss me?” I tugged off my shirt, rolled it up, and tossed it into the truck.“Maybe I did.”Laughing, I grabbed my cap off the seat and shoved it on, shielding my eyes. “I didn’t know we were dating.”“My feelings are hurt now.”“I’ll buy you a beer next time we’re out.”“That works. I’m easy.”I grinned. “Don’t I know.”Jase laughed as he turned, hanging his arms over the side of the truck bed. The easygoing smile faded as he slipped a pair of sunglasses on. I knew that look. Nothing good came from it. Very few people knew just how shitty life could get for Jase. It was easy for everyone to assume otherwise, with how Jase was the go-to guy for fixing other people’s crap, including mine.I turned the air on and shut the door, then joined him at the side of the truck. The metal was hot against the skin of my underarms as I leaned in, stretching my calves. “What’s up?”One dark eyebrow rose above the rim of his glasses. “You heading to the gym or something?”“That’s what I was thinking.” I switched my legs, working out the kink. “You wanna go with me?”“Nah,” he said. “I’ve got to swing by the farm. Check on a few things.”“How’s Jack?”A wide smile broke out across Jase’s face, causing a young professor walking past the truck to trip in her heels. “He’s great,” he said, his tone light like it was always was when he talked about his brother. “Told me yesterday that when he grows up, he wants to be Chuck Norris.”I laughed. “Can’t go wrong with that.”“Nope.” He looked over, peering at me above his shades. “How you doing?”“Good.” I pushed back, smacking my hands off the rail. “Why you ask?”Jase raised a shoulder. “Just checking in.”Some days that comment pissed me off. Other days it did nothing. Luckily for Jase, it was one of those days when the shit just rolled off my back. “I’m not about to end up in a corner, whispering ‘forever’ anytime soon. It’s all cool.”“Good to hear.” Jase grinned as he backed off, his head turning toward where the young teacher had disappeared. “Party at your place, right?”“Why not?” I headed to the driver’s side. “Half the campus will be there I’m sure.”“True.” Jase pivoted around. “See you later.”I climbed into the cool interior and headed out of the parking lot. My lazy ass needed to get to the gym on West Campus, but my ass also wanted to get to the couch for a nap.Turning left at the stop sign, I passed the duplexes on the right as a football flew out one of the doors, smacking one of the guys in the back of the head. Laughing, I reached over for the—Something red caught my attention. My eyes were heat-seeking missiles, searching out the source, and hot damn. My gaze narrowed. Was that Shortcake?A tree obscured my view for a second and then she reappeared, the sun reflecting off the wide bracelet circling her wrist.Hells yeah, it was.I didn’t even think twice about what I did next. Grinning, I slid the cap around backward and hung a sharp right, blocking the road.Avery jumped back onto the curb, her big eyes going round. As I hit the button to the passenger window, rolling it down, her mouth dropped open.I grinned, happy to see that Shortcake had made it through her first day alive. “Avery Morgansten, we meet again.”She glanced around her, like she thought I might be talking to someone else. “Cameron Hamilton … hi.”I leaned forward, dropping an arm over the steering wheel. She looked damn cute standing there, fidgeting with her bracelet. “We have to stop meeting like this.”Biting down on that plump lower lip, her gaze dropped, zeroing in on my tattoo as she shifted her weight from foot to foot.Shortcake was definitely what I would categorize as awkward. Maybe it came from having a younger sister, because the need to make her feel comfortable rode me hard, but it seemed like fighting a losing battle.“You running into me, me almost running over you?” I elaborated. “It’s like we’re a catastrophe waiting to happen.”Silence.Try this one more time. “Where are you heading?”“My car,” she said, proving to me that she could speak. “I’m about to run out of time. She shifted her weight again. “So …”“Well, hop in, sweetheart. I can give you a ride.”She stared at me like I asked her to get in the back of my kidnapper van. “No. It’s okay. I’m right up the hill. No need at all.”“It’s no problem.” Never had met a female so damn resistant to common courtesy. “It’s the least I can do after almost running you over.”“Thank you, but—”“Yo! Cam!” Kevin came out of fucking nowhere, jogging past Avery. “What you up to, man?”Oddly irritated, I kept my gaze on Shortcake and resisted the urge to nudge the dude out of the way with my truck. “Nothing, Kevin, just trying to have a conversation.”Avery raised her hand, wiggled her fingers, and bolted around Kevin and my truck. My gaze followed her as Kevin went on and on about some shit I didn’t give a flying fuck about.“Shit,” I muttered, sitting back in the seat.Avery ran again. And I had the craziest urge to give chase.

Review: Origin (Lux #4) By Jennifer L. Armentrout & Title Reveal

Origin (Lux #4)

By Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fav Quote:

"There’re one hundred and sixty-eight hours in a week. Around eighty-seven hundred and then some hours in a year, and you know what?”

“What?”

“I want to spend every second, every minute, every hour with you.” Part of me couldn’t believe something that cheesy had come out of my mouth, but it was also so beautifully true. “I want a year’s worth of seconds and minutes with you. I want a decade’s worth of hours, so many that I can’t add them up.”

This book is freaking UNBELIEVABLE (in a very good way) !

Origin starts where Opal left things. After being captured, the only thing Kat can do is survive. But, serviving isn't as easy as one would have thought in her case. Especially, when your every action is watched...

Daemon is on a mission! He's determined to save Kat or die trying. With a crazy plan in mind, Daemon is ready to take out the world, just to see her again. But going after Kat entails endangering Dee, Dawson, Bethany and even himself.

"Did you think you could stop me?” Power shot from me, smacking into the door behind Dawson, blowing it off the hinges and into the house. “I’ll burn the world down to save her.”
He thought he was ready for what awaited him at Area 51 (the place where they are currently "staying", aka being held, as "guests" ) but he couldn't be more wrong. Kat and Daemon are about to "find" things that could kill all of them...

"Is she truly worth this?”

"Yes, she is worth everything.”

I never understood what the title "represented" but after reading Oringin I'm fully aware. This book helds so many surprises and has so any twists, that you're sure (or think you are) about something happening but turns out to be exactly the opposite.

Origin has dual POVs, alternating between Kat and Daemon respectively. I really liked that, because for the first time in the series we got to see the real Daemon behind all his "façade". Yeah, his jokes are funny and his arrogance completely sexy but I loved the man behind all this. He has always been funny, protective, arrogant, super strong and all that but I never knew he had his own fears/weaknesses.

“I was terrified the whole time they had you and I didn’t know where you were. I was scared out of my mind that I would never see you again or get to hold you. And when I did see you? I was afraid I’d never hear you laugh again or see your beautiful smile. So, yeah, I lied. I was terrified. I’m still lying.”

Furthermore, I loved that we got to see more of Luc and Paris (it's so difficult mentioning him) who were absofuckinglutely AMAZING, we met a new character Archer (dyinggggggggg) who was the embodiment of perfection and believe it or not Dee, Dawson, Bethany, Ash, Andrew and Matthew played a HUGE role in this book. I did't want to mention this one but... we get to see Blake too. Just let me tell you that I still cannot conceive all the things that happened (I think I'm denial).

All in all, I can't say how much I loved this book and I absolutely recommend it. This this book is a cliffhanger has not a HEA (ok, not for all), the next book isn't coming out until next year. You have being warned!!!

If you really want to understand how far things are getting in this book, just look at the cover! I think that says much about what's occuring in this book.

Last but not least, the title of the fifth and last book (SO SOOOOOOOO SAD ABOUT THAT) has been revealed:

description
Opposition will release Summer 2014 from Entangled Teen.

There will be no ARCs of this title as it is the last title in the series and there will be limited teasers from this book, but I do have a sneak peek at the opening page. For those who have not read Origin, this really isn’t too spoilery, but you will probably be crazily confused by it.

Sneak Peek Starts Below:

Katy

I always had this plan for the off chance I was around for the end of the world. I’d climb up on my roof top, turn up the radio, blast R.E.M.’s It’s The End of The World, and watch it all go down from my lofty perch.

Except real life rarely turned out that cool.

And it was really happening—it was the end of the world as we knew it, and I sure as hell didn’t feel fine.

Everything had changed and we had been the catalyst for it all.

End of Sneak Peek.

Synopsis (of Origin)

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

By Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“Never in my life had I been more frustrated. Go figure it wouldn't be with a human but a freaking alien. At least I now knew that the male species were asses no matter what planet they hailed from.”-Serena

The are both so strong, arrogant (especially Hunter “Your arrogance is rooted in stupidity.” ), stubborn and together they are just perfect...

Hunter + Serena =

They have such an intense relationship...

Hunter would sacrifice anything if it meant protecting what's HIS..

I just hope this isn't the end of them.I want to see more of them, more Hunter...
