Fav Quote:

"For the first time in her life she knew without a doubt that a man wanted her simply for her. And not just any man. But Alex"

Sinful Seduction is the eighth book in the Red Stone Security series.

In this book we get to meet Alexander Blue, an alpha male, who works for Red stone Security. Alexander needs some time off. After his last assignment, he decides to lay low and head into town. He's tired of one night stands but he isn't really looking for a long term relationship.

Meet Mina Hollingsworth. Despite being the only child of a very wealthy man, the only thing Mina wants is to live her life. But the only way to make that possible, is to change her identity. And so she does. Mina changes her name and moves to Miami, living the life she always wanted and selling her paintings.

Mina thinks that she's perfectly safe. Living the life she has always wanted until she gets mugged. After Alex helps her, a bond is forged between them. When it becomes clear that her mugging wasn’t random, Alex will do anything to protect her...

I love, love anything written by Katie Reus. As always the book was hot, filled with action, suspense and an alpha hero. Alexander and Mina were such an incredible couple. The chemistry and electricity netween them was explosive!

The only thing that I actually didn't like was the length of the book. This is something that keeps bothering me but I love her books soooo much that I overlook it!

Definitely recommended!

"I have a proposition for you." Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus's mouth. It's been years since Kacey's seen her childhood friend Jake, but the minute Jake mentions his ill grandmother, Kacey is ready to do anything for the sweet old woman. Yet when they meet again, Travis's gorgeous smile is a direct hit to her heart . . . and Kacey's more confused than ever. “Kace!” Travis strolled into the room, absolutely shirtless and wearing nothing but pajama pants. Was her tongue hanging out of her mouth? Oh God, she was beginning to sweat. Geez, at least turn the air on in this place.

Averting her eyes, she managed an awkward laugh. “What’s up?”

“Movie night.” He threw a pillow at her and went to the DVDs.

“Um, is it naked movie night? I’m not sure I got that memo.”

She looked him up and down when he turned around.

“I’m sorry. Does my masculinity frighten your prudish nature?”

She snorted. “Please. I just don’t want to get last night’s skank on me. I hear diseases travel through too much skin contact.”

He rolled his eyes. “I’ll put on a shirt if you take off yours.”

How tempting that was . . . “Take off my shirt? So you can finally see my boobs? Oh gosh, Travis. Let me think. Give you the fantasy you’ve been dreaming of for years or keep my pride? Yeah, I think I’ll keep my pride.”

He shrugged. “Suit yourself, but it really isn’t a slumber party if you’re not naked.”

“What the hell kind of slumber parties were you subjected to as a child?” Kacey asked.

Travis grinned shamelessly. “Only the good ones. Now seriously, go change into sweats. I’ll wait.”

“Fine.” She hopped off, her heart beating erratically out of her chest. This witty banter had to stop. For crying out loud, they were adults! Not teenagers! She grabbed some short Victoria’s Secret shorts and a black tank and put on her slippers to make it look less . . . seductive. Not that she was seducing him. Her stupid skin betrayed her in the mirror as it turned a very nice crimson color.

She really needed to start dating more.

Taking the stairs two at a time, she went back down to the living room and saw Travis opening a bottle of wine; thankfully he had put a shirt on. She wasn’t sure she could handle any more of his glistening muscles that evening. “Thought you could use this, even though it’s not good for the baby.” He winked.

“I would drink that whole bottle if I knew it wouldn’t get me completely drunk. I miss wine.”

“Um, you haven’t had it for one night, and you miss it?”

“Clearly, you underestimate my relationship with wine and what I do on the weekends when I’m by myself reading.”

“You wild thing, you.” Travis nudged her and filled her glass to the brim. He should be sainted, immediately.

Their fingers brushed slightly as he handed the wine over. His eyes flickered to her shorts, and he cleared his throat. “Those are nice.”

“Thanks.” She inwardly smiled.

“Are they shorts or underwear?”

Was he being serious? “Shorts, you ass. Now, what movie are we watching?”

“Guess.”

“Not in the mood, not near enough wine in my system for me to embark on such a strenuous activity.”

“Ah, pregnancy brain, it does it to ya; it really does.” Travis got up and turned off the lights, then pressed Play. “I thought you might want to watch a horror movie.”

“Horror movie?”

A cartoon popped up on the screen. Kacey blinked as the music came on, then nearly fell out of her seat. “Oh my gosh, we can’t watch this, Travis. I can’t watch this. It’s been forever and . . .”

“Conquer your fears, Kace.”

Kacey scooted a little closer to him, just in case some of the cartoons did in fact decide to pop out and devour her.

He pressed Pause and laughed. “Kace, really? I thought you’d be over this fear by now.”

“It’s not a fear.” Kacey drank her wine faster. “It’s a scary movie!”

“It’s Alice in Wonderland.”

Kacey shook her head a few times and drank some more wine.

“Damn that Cheshire cat.”

Travis held up his wine. “To conquering old fears?”

Something shifted between them then. His eyes, though it was dark, seemed to be hiding something, as if he were talking about more than her stupid phobia. She leaned in, now completely relaxed from downing half her wine already, and whispered, “To conquering old fears.”

TEASER

“What are you reading?” A deep voice asked from the seat behind me.

I barely acknowledged Weston’s question, holding the cover of my book just high enough for him to see.

He nodded, waiting for me to speak. When I didn’t, he offered a small smile, and began to sit back. “What are you reading?” I asked.

Weston immediately leaned toward me, sharing his cover the way I had.

“Piers Anthony?”

Weston cleared his throat to stifle a cough, and then smiled. “I like his stuff.”

I nodded. “I approve.”

“Good,” Weston whispered. “I was worried.” After a short pause, he leaned into my ear again. “Why don’t you ever talk to me in Art class?”

We had Art together in seventh period, the class I looked forward to all day. Weston was in there, but more importantly, people like the Erins and Brady weren’t. We were serious about our work, and it was the one place during the school day that I could be myself.

“I guess I was just busy.”

“Are you going to be busy today?”

“Probably.”

“Well, maybe I’ll get lucky and you’ll take a break.” I turned around to hide my grin, but not before glancing back and seeing the familiar look of hatred in Alder’s eyes.

Whore, she mouthed, glaring at me.

Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it's one she no longer wants any part of.

The old Sam took "mean girl" to a whole new level, and it's clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She's getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she's falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her—even if the old Sam treated him like trash. But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn't just buried deep inside of Sam's memory—someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet.

All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

“This engrossing thriller packs a heady atmospheric punch with plenty of theatrical scares,” Kirkus Reviews “Armentrout has written another winner. From the first page to the last, she builds both terror and confusion to the point where readers will be hooked and on the edge of their seat. This standalone contains all of Armentrout’s usual trademarks– a strong and determined heroine, witty comments and hot guys–but she adds in an extra layer by ratcheting up the suspense to the highest degree and follows it up with an ending no one will see coming.” RT BOOK REVIEWS 4 1/2 Stars TOP PICK

EXCERPT

I didn’t recognize the name on the street sign. Nothing about the rural road looked familiar or friendly. Tall, imposing trees and overgrown weeds choked the front of the dilapidated home. Windows were boarded up.There was a gaping hole where the front door had been. I shivered, wanting to be far away from here…wherever here was.

Walking felt harder than it should be, and I stumbled off the chilly asphalt, wincing as sharp gravel dug into my feet. My bare feet? I stopped and looked down. Chipped pink nail polish peeked through the dirt…and blood. Mud caked the legs of my pants, leaving the hems stiff. It made sense, seeing as how I wasn’t wearing any shoes, but the blood…

I didn’t understand why there was blood staining the knees of my jeans.
My vision clouded and dulled, as if a gray film had been dropped over my eyes. As I stared at the weathered asphalt under my feet, large and smooth rocks replaced the tiny stones. Something dark and oily seeped over the rocks, slipping through the cracks.

Sucking in a sharp gasp, I blinked and the image was gone. Hands trembling, I raised them. They were also covered with dirt and scratches. My nails were broken, bloodied. A silver ring wrapped, encased in soil, around my thumb. Air froze in my chest as my gaze crawled over my arms. The sleeves of my sweater were torn, revealing pale flesh covered in bruises and gashes.

My legs started to shake as I swayed forward. I tried to remember how this had happened, but my head was empty—a black void where nothing existed. A car drove by, coasting to a stop a few feet in front of me. Somewhere in the trenches of my subconscious, I recognized the flashing red and blue lights as a source of safety. Elegantly scrawled along the black-and-gray side of the cruiser were the words

ADAMS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT. Adams County? A flash of familiarity came and went. The driver’s door opened, and a deputy stepped out. He said something into the radio on his shoulder before he looked at me.

“Miss?” He started around the cruiser, taking tentative steps. He looked young for a deputy. Barely out of high school and able to carry a gun seemed wrong somehow. Was I in high school? I didn’t know. “We’ve received some calls into dispatch concerning you,” he said gently.

“Are you okay?” I tried to respond, but only a hoarse squeak came out. Clearing my throat, I winced as the motion scratched and pulled.

 “I…I don’t know.”

“Okay.” The deputy held up his hands as he approached me, as if I were a skittish deer about to bolt. “My name is Deputy Rhode. I’m here to help you. Do you know what you’re doing out here?”
“No.” Knots formed in my belly. I didn’t even know where here was.

His smile strained. “What’s your name?” My name? Everyone knew their name, but as I stared at the deputy, I couldn’t answer his question. The knots started twisting more.

“I don’t…I don’t know what my name is.” He blinked, and the smile was completely gone. “You don’t remember anything?” I tried again, concentrating on the empty space between my ears. That was how it felt. And I knew that wasn’t good. My eyes started to tear up.

“Miss, it’s okay. We’ll get you taken care of.” He reached out, lightly taking hold of my arm. “We’ll get this sorted.” Deputy Rhode led me around the back of his cruiser. I didn’t want to sit behind the Plexiglas, because I knew that wasn’t good.

Only bad people sat behind the glass in police cruisers. I wanted to object, but before I could say anything, he settled me into the seat and wrapped a coarse blanket around my shoulders. Before he locked me in the bad part of the car, he knelt and smiled reassuringly.

“Everything’s going to be okay.” But I knew he was lying, trying to make me feel better. It didn’t work. How could everything be okay when I didn’t know my own name?

ARC Review: Burning Dawn (Angels of the Dark, #3) by Gena Showalter

Posted on Sunday, April 13, 2014 3:41 PM
2
It's been a long time since I last posted a review but please bear with me. My exams are in five weeks and will last about two weeks. After that there'll be major changes at my blog with many giveaways!!!

Without further ado..

Burning Dawn (Angels of the Dark #3)

By Gena Showalter

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Fav Scene: "Trembling fingers stroked over his feathers in a single, innocent moment of communion, flooding him with sensations he'd never before experienced. Sultry heat arced through his wings, spread through hid body. His blood crackled and fizzed with something akin to contentment. An impossible contentment."- Thane

I’m literally out of words. I love Gena soooo much and her works never disappoint. Burning Dawn just became one of my favorite books. For real, this was one of her best books and having read most of her books I know what I’m talking about! I’ve been waiting so long for this book. Ever since I read Beauty Awakened I’ve been “patiently” waiting for this one.

Kendra, a powerful seductive Phoenix, has captured Thane and is using him as a slave, bound to do everything she wishes. Elin sweet Elin, is also a slave to the Phoenix camp and seeing Thane gives her hope that she’ll one day be free. So, Elin decides to free Thane thinking he’ll rescue her as well. Elin gets her wish but Thane is consumed by his need to revenge the phoenix. Not just Kendra but all of them…

I loved, loved this book. Thane was nothing as I expected him to be. His consumed by his need for revenge but at the same time he wants to win Elin’s affection. He was such an “ambiguous character”. He’s strong, determined, unpredictable, scarred, will do anything to get his revenge but he’s also admirable, led by his love for Elin and his friends, Bjorn and Xerxes. Above all he’s loyal and he’d sacrifice his own happiness if that meant his friends would find their own. Thane is not the monster he thinks he is. In my opinion, I think that he’s perfect. He tries so hard to be good for the people he loves that he doesn’t realize how “noble” he is.

On the other hand, Elin was not the typical “Gena-heroine”. She wasn’t that strong, she wan’t that powerful and she wasn’t that brave. When I first read about her I was like “You’ve got to be kidding me! That’s not Thane’s match”. However, as I kept reading I realized that she indeed was. Elin changes throughout the book. I can’t even compare the Elin in the beginning of the book and the Elin in the end of it. She was independent, strong and funny. I felt so bad for her, for the horrors she had to endure. But that made her stronger and more compassionate.

Gena did well with Thane and Elin’s pairing. They completed each other and in the end healed themselves.

As far as the secondary characters are concerned, I loved Xerxes and Bjorn. They were loyal to each other and they shared the same past with Thane. They had to endure horrible things, but managed to escape and survive together. They were major part of the book and they totally supported each other. I loved the fact that they were all so “united”.

Fav chat:
Bjorn: Distracted?

Thane: Yes!

Xerxes: May I suggest knitting? It’s very relaxing.

Thane: No reason to suggest it. I’m already knitting a night-shirt for your mother.

Bjorn: Mother jokes? How low the sophisticated Thane has fallen.

I also liked the Multiple Scorgasms, Elin’s “gang”, Octavia, Chanel, Bellorie and Savanna. A vampire, a fae, a harpy and a siren. I loved the girls and was also very curious about Adrian, the bodyguard.

Fav chat:
Bellorie: So, get this. A gorgeous were-shifter stumbled into the bar. He was already drunk, and paused to stare at me like he’d never seen anything more beautiful. Because, of course, he hadn’t.

Savy: Until I walked in.

Octavia: I must have had the day off.

Chanel: I’m pretty effing sure I was hanging out with Octavia.

Bellorie: Wow. Could you guys be any more narcissistic?

Chanel: I’m not narcissistic. I’m perfect.

Bellorie: Anyway. He kissed me, only to pull back and mutter an apology. He said he thought I was his wife, cause I look just like her. I kneed him in the balls, and called him a lying, cheating son of a troll. He then said I sounded just like his wife.

Octavia: I bet you told him to bring the female with him the next time he visited the club, because she had to be the wittiest, smartest person ever.

Bellorie: So you were there?

In Burning Dawn get to see the Lords of the Underworld as well.

One thing that really bothered me was the miscommunication between Thane and Elin but it was easy to look over.

The book gripped me from page one till the very end and I just cannot tell you how lucky I feel to have read it. I really loved it and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series (pls be about Xerxes and Cario).

Highly recommended.

Author Interview

Q. Tell us a little bit about the Lost Souls series…

It’s the story of Charlotte O’Brien–a stubborn, sarcastic, intensely loyal, and compassionate girl who loses her parents at the age of twenty, her first love at twenty-two, and her faith in God and herself too many times to count. Without a clue of how to survive, Charlotte withdraws to her rural hometown and embraces humiliation and self-loathing with an unnerving honesty.

The books are both heart-wrenching and hilarious. They portray that dark place, deep down inside all of us that responds to the pain we inflict on each other, and yet grant us permission to laugh as Charlotte hauls herself out of the darkness…and finds love in the process.

Q. In the series, you fearlessly take your heroine, Charlotte to some dark places— how do you think these covers represent the story and Charlotte’s journey?

While Lost Souls is a love story, it’s also rather tragic and daunting. Charlotte grapples with questions that leave some of us staring into the darkness in the middle of the night.

What do we owe the dead?
Is there a divine plan?
How much of ourselves can we give to another before there’s nothing left?
Can we truly forgive what we can’t forget?

These covers are not only visually stunning, but brilliantly hint at the fact there’s a great deal more going on here than just love. Charlotte’s ethereal depiction in the background with her pleas written over her are right on.

She’s also a girl who doesn’t take her surroundings for granted. Charlotte beholds the clouds, the moon, the sunset, the ocean, the strength of the waves, the distance to the horizon, and incorporates those sights into her understanding of the world. The images within each ME are a nod to her connection to the Earth and they could not be more beautiful or appropriate.

Grand Central’s immensely talented Elizabeth Turner blew me away with these covers!

Q. A lot of the action in the Lost Souls series is set in New Jersey. What’s your connection to the Garden State and why did you chose to set Charlotte’s story there?

I grew up in a rural town in Southern New Jersey which is a stark contrast to the urban setting of Rutgers University where I attended college. I’m odd in that I love the city and the country. The beauty of New Jersey is you can have both. It’s a haven for big personalities and bigger hearts nestled amongst mountains, 130 miles of coastline, rural fields, New York and Philadelphia as our neighbors, and of course lots of highway exits.

I wanted the Lost Souls series to give a voice to the rich diversity that exists here.

Q. What three words would you use to describe your heroine, Charlotte?

Unsinkable. Jersey. Girl.
