ARC Review: Hunter Reborn (Moon Shifter #5) by Katie Reus

Posted on Friday, January 30, 2015 4:56 PM

Title: Hunter Reborn
Author: Katie Reus
Series: Moon Shifter #5

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
Losing her was the hardest thing he’d ever endured...

Warrior shifter Aiden’s investigation of the trafficking of vampire blood leads to a startling discovery: the beautiful vampire bondmate he thought was dead. Decades ago, they’d defied their powerful families to be together, but then Larissa disappeared without a trace. When their mating link broke, it nearly destroyed Aiden. Now she’s back with no memory of where she’s been. Even more shattering—Larissa claims she has no idea who Aiden is.
Now she’s back...

It’s a race against time to bring down an operation more evil than his pack ever suspected, and Aiden finds himself working side by side with a mate who no longer trusts him—and she wants out. But he lost her once, and he won’t let her go again. Unfortunately, Larissa’s blood is the key to a powerful monster’s dangerous plan—and he’ll stop at nothing to destroy her, sparking off a war between the supernaturals and humans that no one will win.

Hunter Reborn is the 5th book in the Moon Shifter series by Katie Reus and tells the story of Aiden Nicholl, a werewolf shifter and Larissa Danesti, a natural born royal vampire.

All Aiden ever wanted was his mate. So, when he finally found her, he couldn’t believe how lucky he was until she was taken from him. Now, sixty years later, Aiden can only but remember what his bond to Larissa felt like. Her loss left him bare. How can a man recover from such loss? Finding a new pack, gives Aiden some hope but can’t replace the yearning in his heart. Until the night that changes everything…

On a mission to find the ones responsible for trafficking vampire blood, Aiden and his pack visit one of the most popular vampire clubs. Everyone knows what they should be looking for and that’s not a vampire that looks like Larissa. Aiden can’t help himself but follow the woman who looks exactly like his dead mate. Larissa and he are face to face when their old bond reactivates. The force of the bond is so powerful that Larissa is knocked out while Aiden seems unable to control his wolf. But for a while everything and everyone is forgotten because for a while his mate is back!

After been awaked from a sixty years stasis by a witch (who claims to be her friend), Larissa has many questions but most importantly she feels that she is forgetting something or someone. So when she bonds with the wolf rumored to have killed her parents, Larissa needs some answers and fast.

But is she ready to face the truth that was taken from her?

Hunter Reborn was a beautiful book. It was about second chances, a deep love that managed to survive through the ages and finally it was a story that healed. Aiden thought he got his mate back and he once again became the carefree man he was, only to be crashed again by Larissa’s lack of memories. Their bond was back but Aiden needed to claim her again, his Larissa. Much as he wanted to claim her, he had to earn her trust first and help her remember the love they once shared.

I fell in love with this book, with Aiden and the love that never weakened. Beautiful, magical and enthralling! That’s what this book was. We got to see Aiden and Larissa making new memories but the author didn’t neglect to give us glimpses of the life they shared. It was amazing seeing how they met, how they fell in love and how they claimed each other. Their stubbornness, their determination, their fierceness and their love made this story so exceptional.

But not for a minute think that this is just a romance. We get action, suspense, a bit of mystery, twists and turns and amazing secondary characters. Some we already know and some are new. We get to see Connor and Anna, Vivian and Lucas (little cuties), Jayce and Kat, Ryan and Teresa (new couple on the horizon) and Natalia. One character I didn’t expect to see was Jayce’s brother, Aldric. Aldric makes his appearance here and although I didn’t like him that much in the beginning, I can say that he wasn't the bad guy I thought him to be.

I really liked this book! Highly recommended!

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.
But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

Review: Wicked (A Wicked Saga #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Posted on Monday, January 26, 2015 1:08 PM

Title: Wicked
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: A Wicked Saga #1

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.
Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.
Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.
But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.
Another 5 stars for J. Armentrout.

I was surprised when I first found out that J.A. was writing a whole new series. I loved the title, I loved the cover, I loved the blurb and I was blown away by the book.

Ivy and Ren were two incredible and strong main characters. Although, the book is about Ivy, Ren gets his own story as well. They are both well developed and realistic characters with rough pasts.

Ivy has lost everyone that ever mattered in her life. First her parents, then her adoptive parents and her first love. It’s for that reason that Ivy prefers her own company than that of her few friends. When a new member of the order moves into town, Ivy does her best to keep a distance. Little does she know that Ren can be very persistent!

I loved everything about this book. Ren, Ivy, Tink! Everyone! I call dibs on Tink though! I have to admit that I was surprised by him because I expected him to be a female. I loved him even better as a male. He was in a way what Bambi is for the Dark Element series (and let me tell you, I love that series). His relationship with Ivy, was a complicated one but they both cared for each other. Ren, knew what he wanted from the first time he met Ivy, he was infatuated with her. Ren thought he knew everything there was to know about Ivy’s life but in the end he was wrong about her.

Ren and Ivy’s relationship was sizzling hot, their chemistry, exploding and there were even some double hot sexy scenes.

I don’t usually read fae books but I knew I had to read this one. I’m head over heels in love with Armentrout’s books and this one was no exception. I couldn’t read the book fast enough. A page turner full of action, suspense, romance, humor and an unexpected end. Ren, Ivy and Tink will surely win you over and in the end break your heart.

I can’t wait to read Torn, Wicked’s sequel!!! I’m very curious to find out what Ivy’s future holds, love or death.

Highly recommended!

My Review

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Falling away is the third book in the Fall Away series and tells the story of K.C., Tate’s bff and Jax, Jared’s younger brother.

After being away for two years, K.C. returns to Shelburn falls to find herself lost, with no real direction and clueless as ever. Having grown up and no longer able to tolerate her mother, she has no other choice bit to move into Tate’s house with Jax living next door.

Jax has always been into K.C. but she knew better than get involved with someone like Jax, a player. Now, living next to each other, they have no other choice but to tolerate each other. Jax though, isn’t as patient as he wants others to believe. K.C. bring out his worst self and he can’t not challenge her too. He wants her to find herself but she cannot do that when Jax is holding back.

She wants to unravel all of his secrets. He wants to meet the woman behind the mask.

I have to admit that I was a bit hesitant about this book. I wasn’t a big fan of K.C’s mainly because of her choices in the past. I actually liked Jax (a lot) especially in Rival but as I began reading this book, I realized that he wasn’t the man I thought him to be. He was such a jerk in the beginning of the book, arrogant to no end and his mood changed so fast. He changed from hot and cold from chapter to chapter. Despite their early behavior though, the chemistry between them was off the charts, their romance, sizzling and the sexual tension was scorching hot.

What surprised me more than anything was K.C.’s past. She wasn’t at all the person I had imagined she would be. Her past was so sad. I felt very sorry for her. I’m glad that Jax challenged her the way he did because if he hadn’t, she wouldn’t have found her true self.

Moreover, we got to see some old characters as well. Tate and Jared and Madoc and Fallon. I loved seeing how Madoc and Fallon’s relationship had developed but I was disappointed by Jared and Tate. I once thought they were soul mates but I think they have much yet to learn from each other. I hope they find their HEA but I don’t see that happening any time soon. There are so many secrets between them.

Falling away was an incredible book. K.C. and Jax found their HEA but they had to go through many difficulties to get there. In reality many people would have given up at the first difficulty, which is what happens in most of the cases, but these two people fought to create the bond between them.

I’m looking forward to reading Aflame (the last part of Tate and Jared’s story), the next and probably the last book in the fall away series.

Highly recommended!

Excerpt

Falling Away - Chapter 9 Excerpt

“Jax, I can’t,” she breathed, placing her hands on my chest. “I . . . ,” she stammered, “I don’t exactly dislike you anymore, but this isn’t a good idea. As much as I’d like to give in, I can’t be that girl.”

“What girl?”

She stared at me. “A one-night stand.”

My fists tightened around her shirt. So that was what she thought I wanted?

My voice hardened. “What makes you think you’d be a one-night stand?”

“Because you’re Jared Trent’s brother. Because you’re young. Why would you want more?” she asked, her tone light. “I’m not trying to be prissy, okay? You get to me. I like the way you feel. I’m just not ready for this.” Her lips pursed, and she started to rise, but I pulled her back down.

“Ready for what?” I bit out, getting seriously fucking annoyed at her assumptions and the fact that she compared me to Jared. Two minutes ago she’d had her arms and legs wrapped around me.

Her eyebrows shot up, challenging me. “This,” she spat out, and dug into my pocket, pulling out my knife. “It’s been digging into the back of my thigh since I sat down. Why do you have so many computers? Why do the cops let you get away with anything? What do you do to make a living? And why do you carry a knife, Jax?”

My chest filled with delight at her anger. She was getting ballsier by the minute.

I shot her a smirk. “Because it’s quiet.”

And I almost laughed at her arched eyebrow. She was asking why I carried a knife, and I just answered why I carried a knife instead of a gun.

She averted her eyes, but I caught the annoyed expression as she raised the knife up to her face, studying it. She hit the button, and the blade shot out right between us.

I had only a moment to wonder what the hell she was doing before I reared back, seeing her jab the knife into my space.

“You think you scare me, don’t you?” she taunted, holding the blade to my neck, playing with me.

I sucked in a few quick breaths and let out a startled laugh as my heart slammed against my ribs. Well, this was new.

I swallowed, meeting her triumphant little smile and leaning into the blade, feeling the sharp, cool steel bite into my neck. “You want to play? You don’t know how to play my games, Juliet.”

And I snatched the knife out of her scarred hand and brought it down to the hem of her shirt, slicing it up the middle.

“Jax!” she screamed, fumbling with her now useless T-shirt as I threw the blade onto the floor. “What are you doing?”

Grabbing her around the waist, I stood up, whipped her around, and planted her in front of the window looking down onto the backyard full of partiers.

I wrapped my arms around her shaking body and growled into her ear from behind her, “God, Juliet. You think I just wanna fuck? You think I wanna keep myself hidden and mysterious, because it’s my play to get women into bed? Huh?” I pressed. “No, baby. I could fuck ten different girls tonight if I wanted to. I don’t want to do that.”

Her chest shook, and she squirmed against me, probably scared that we could be seen out the window.

“So, what do you want?” she cried. “If not a one-night stand?”

I closed my burning eyes, and buried my lips in her hair. “I want to terrorize you,” I confessed. “I want to cut you without drawing blood. I want to break you.” I pulled her into me. “And then I want to fuck you.”

From the moment I laid eyes on her I had wanted to break her out of her shell. I wanted to see her undone, and I wanted to take her over. For how long, I didn’t know, but I knew it would be for more than one night.

I also knew it wouldn’t be forever.

Her breathing slowed, and she stilled, staring out the window. I straightened behind her and peeled off the T-shirt she was holding closed.

“Jax,” she whimpered, turning her face to me. “They can see us.”

Reaching around, I turned her chin back toward the window. “They can’t see you. The window’s tinted.” The shirt, sliced up the front, fell down her arms and spilled to the floor. “But you can see them, Juliet,” I pointed out, gently running my hands up her bare arms. “They drink, they laugh, they have meaningless conversations about what’s trending on Twitter.” I paused and dug my fingers into her hips, pulling her ass into me and breathing into her ear, “And I’m so jacked up I want you so bad.”

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released.

Title: Invaded
Author: Melissa Landers
Series: Alienated #2
Expected publication: February 3rd 2015

The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe...until a threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Cara always knew life on planet L’eihr would be an adjustment. With Aelyx, her L’eihr boyfriend, back on Earth, working to mend the broken alliance between their two planets, Cara is left to fend for herself at a new school, surrounded by hostile alien clones. Even the weird dorm pet hates her.
Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L’eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L’eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side.
Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L’eihr relations. Humans don’t know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx’s people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists’ multiple attempts on Aelyx’s life.
The Way clearly needs humans’ help . . . but with what? And what will they ask for in return?
What are you waiting on Wednesday???

Review: Archangel's Legion (Guild Hunter #6) by Nalini Singh

Posted on 5:47 PM
0
Title: Archangel's Legion
Author: Nalini Singh
Series: Guild Hunter #6

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force.
Vampires are dying impossibly of disease.
Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York a ruin and Raphael’s Tower under siege by enemy archangels.
Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York…and on Raphael. Rivers of crimson and nightmares given flesh, the world will never again be the same…
I know what you’re thinking, that’s what I thought as well, “another Raphael and Elena book?” Apparently yeah…

When I finished Archangel’s storm (which I loved) I expected another of the seven to follow. Instead what we get is another book about the never ending drama that is Raphael and Elena’s relationship. Don’t get me wrong. I like the couple but I believe that the first three books in the series plus one more now, is simply too much. Even the third book was too much! The first two books, I loved! The third , not so much! (there was a point I dnf-ed the book and even considered abandoning the series if it continued thus) and now this…

This book was a torture! The only reason I read it, was because I didn’t want to lose any major changes (not that there were any besides the legion)

Just like the third book in the series this book was so unnecessary. Elena’s job and family drama goes on like usual. Hunting, investigating, fighting with her dad, having nightmares about her past and later crying about them to Raphael. This is the book in one sentence. I can’t believe this is the Elena we met in Angel’s blood. The same goes to Raphael as well. His mother is back (and despite what they are saying, she seems to be the most stable and sane of all the archangels) he’s the youngest archangel ever, he has found his soul mate, he has all the money he could ever need and humans think he is a God. How can someone have all that and yet be so lifeless? In contrast with Elena though, I felt like Raphael had improved. His powers continue to change and he acting more like the leader he is (but don’t get your hopes up yet)

On the other hand, once again drama, drama and more drama (that’s actually a line I borrowed from my review of the third book in the series). How is it possible that all of the seven men in Raphael’s league, with Raphael included, have a hunted past?! That’s just absurd! And what’s wrong with all the women in this book! I felt like this book was a battle between men vs women and it’s really not hard to guess who’s the winner (hint- 3 letters). All of the female archangels are so crazy (in a bad way), Elena’s sister, Beth was such a fool for taking Harrison back! He apparently didn’t care for Beth since he decided to become a vampire without checking if Beth could be turned as well. What makes her believe that he’ll care for the baby?! And don’t let me start with Elena.

There was however, one bright spot (maybe two) in the book. The legion and the big fight (ok, that one may not have been a bright spot but after being so bored , believe me you are doing to enjoy this one). Birds falling from the sky, rivers turning red, legions awaking! Fun stuff! Although, I felt like things got more complicated with them, I loved this new addition.

Who’s next? Maybe Illium, Venom or Aodhan (or even Naasir! I don’t know why but I feel that I’m going to love his story). Anyway, I’m a bit hesitant about Illium. In every book the author keeps mentioning his fixation with Elena and the fact that he was once in love with a mortal and never quite got over her. If we get another book like Dmitri’s, I’m definitely abandoning the series. How can a book be romantic when the male can’t truly devote himself to the heroine? If Illium doesn’t get the book he deserves, then that’s the end of the series for me!

Hopefully, the next Raphael and Elena book will be after everyone else gets their own story.

I'm sorry!!! I should have posted this one on Monday but I got distracted by other projects!

Well, as you can see I got addicted to Kristen Ashley's Rock Chick series and I've been reading it like mad!!! I've actually almost finished it (2 more books to go)!
