Goodreads | Amazon

Bryn Reyes is a real life sleeping beauty. Afflicted with Klein-Levin Syndrome, she suffers episodes of prolonged sleep that steal weeks, and sometimes even months, from her life. But unlike most KLS patients, she doesn’t spend each episode in a catatonic state or wake up with no recollection of the time she’s missed. Instead, Bryn spends half her life in an alternate reality made up of her memories. For Bryn, the past is a place, until one day a boy she’s never met before washes up on the illusory beach of her dreams with no memory of who he is.
But the appearance of this strange boy isn’t the only thing that’s changed. Bryn’s symptoms are worsening, her body weakening as she’s plagued by hallucinations even while awake. Her only hope of finding a cure is to undergo experimental treatment created by a German specialist. But when Dr. Banz reveals that he knows more about her strange symptoms than he originally let on, Bryn learns that the boy in her head might actually be the key to understanding what’s happening to her, and worse, that if she doesn’t find out his identity before it’s too late, they both may not survive.
The Girl in between was the first book I read by Laekan Zea Kemp but it surely won't be the last.

This book tells the story of Bryn, a seventeen year old girl who sufferes from a desease called Klein-Levin Syndrome. KLS makes her sleep for long periods. It may be a week or a month. The time varies based on the patients. KLS mostly affects teenagers and wears off as they get older. But not in Bryn's case. Bryn is deteriorating and pretty fast. Her symptoms are getting worse and as if everything wasn't already bad, Bryn has started dreaming. Usually patients with KLS can't dream. They just sleep.

Bryn has her own place where she goes when she sleeps. At that place she usually sees her memories, until him. A boy she's never seen before, gets trapped at the same place with Bryn. But opposed to Bryn , Roman can't get away from there. Every time Bryn sleeps, she ends up there but after a while she wakes up in the real world. Roman can't wake up. He's trapped but they both know that since he exists in he dreams, then he must exist in the real world as well. So the journey begins. Bryn tries to collect every clue available in order to find him, before it's too late. But is she really prepared to face the truth about Roman???

This book was mind blowing. I loved the story although the flow was pretty slow. What I also loved was the way the author chose to present us the story. The suspese was killing me. I was so anxious to meet the "boy's" identity. Both Bryn and Roman were so braive and strong. Bryn may be sick but that doesn't mean she has no life. She tries to finish high school and has dreams of going to university. She tries to be social, despite the fact that her desease is killing all of her progress but she never gives up. She always tries.

What I also loved, was the secondary characters. Dani, Bryn's cousin, was an intriguing character who helped Bryn any way she could, Felix, Bryn's friend was an amazing character and a briliant man, who also proved to be a loyal friend as well. Drew, Bryn's ex-broyfriend, I really hated. He was one of those boys who always screw up and always believe the should be forgiven. Yeah, he's not going to be winning any boyfriend of the year award any time soon. Bry was so much better off him. Roman was seriously a better man for her.

Despite everything though, I have to warn you that the Girl in Between is a cliffhanger. Nothing major but one that will keep you at the edge of your seat until you read the sequel.

I'm looking forward to reading more of their story!!!

Totally recommended!!

Excerpt

“Can I show you something?” she asked.
I wasn’t sure if I should follow her or even if I could but I didn’t want her to let go of me. I didn’t want her to disappear again and leave me there alone, still lost. So I nodded.
We swam to the end of the dock and she untied the small rowboat. She climbed in first, reaching for the oars and holding it steady as I sat down across from her. I watched the house recede. My eyes trailed back to the road, still waiting for someone to come down it. They didn’t.
“Where are we going?” I asked.
“Not far.”
I searched the horizon but it was empty. No land. No boats. It felt like we were headed straight for the skyline, about to fall off into nothing. The waves grew choppy and I wanted to take the oars from her but I didn’t know where we were going and for some reason I liked listening to the slow rhythm of her breathing as she fought the waves.
The boat finally grinded to a stop and when I looked over the edge the water was so clear I could see tiny creatures bedding in the sand, their thin shadows eclipsed by the girl as she climbed onto the sandbar.
“I went to the Bahamas once when I was thirteen,” she said. “The water was so blue. I strapped on a snorkel and spent the entire week just walking from sandbar to sandbar, face underwater watching the fish swim by.”
I followed her out of the boat and a school of bright yellow fish cut between us, scales glinting.
“This?” I said.
She smiled and walked around to the other side of the boat. The water was a dark grey, my legs tangled in a mess of rust colored seaweed. I could barely see my feet, their shadows disappearing beneath swirls of mud.
“This is the Gulf of Mexico near Galveston. I tagged along on one of my mom’s work trips. It was just a few weeks after Hurricane Ike.”
I stared at the muddled outline where the two oceans converged—one light, one dark. I waited for them to mix, for that invisible seam to break free but it didn’t.
We waded farther out into the clear water, another school of fish bumping against my calf, bright red coral twisting near my ankles. It was startling.
“I used to come here,” she said. “When I first got sick I would stand here and it wouldn’t feel like purgatory anymore. They’re memories.” She faced the beach. “My memories.” Then she looked at me. “I don’t know why you’re here or if you’re—”
“Real?” I asked.
She nodded and I wasn’t so sure anymore either.
“But you don’t have to be afraid,” she said. “It doesn’t have to feel like purgatory.”
I watched the sunlight reflecting off the ocean and dancing against her skin. Her eyes were lighter in the sun; green churning to a soft sea foam like the waves crashing near our feet. And standing there in that invisible seam between two oceans, two worlds, she was just as startling.
The tide swirled in her gaze and I watched it shimmer there, glinting from a soft grey to jade and then I said, “It doesn’t.”

Welcome to Life of a Blogger, a weekly meme hosted by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeats! This is where you get the chance to know the blogger behind the blog, aka: What we do when we’re not blogging! Every week there will be a new topic; mainly non-bookish, where I’ll share a little bit of life with you guys..

This week's topic is Most prized possession

This is another difficult topic for me! Well, as shocking as it may sound, I don't have a prized possession. Ok, that's not true! I have prized possesssions but I don't know what to pick...

I love my books (duh) but can they really qualify as prized possessions? If yes, then you already know my most prized possession. Aside from my books though, one of my most prized possessions is my ipad. I love my Ipad although I don't often use it (as much as I would like to).

What I also consider one of my most prized possessions are some pieces of paper where my sister usually writes down encouraging phrases or just quotes!

That's it for me! What about you???

What's your most prized possession???

Synopsis:
The most painful scars are the ones you never see.

On her college campus, she’s reserved, practical–all too aware of the disaster that can result when you trust the wrong person. But inexplicably, Daniel refuses to pay attention to the walls she’s put up. Like Casey, he’s a senior. In every other way, he’s her opposite.
Sexy, open, effortlessly charming, Daniel is willing to take chances and show his feelings. For some reason Casey can’t fathom, he’s intent on drawing her out of her bubble and back into a world that’s messy and unpredictable. He doesn’t know about the deep scars that pucker her stomach–or the deeper secret behind them. Since the violent night when everything changed, Casey has never let anyone get close enough to hurt her again. Now, she might be tempted to try.

Excerpt

“When I was a kid I would stay in the pool for hours until I wrinkled,” Daniel said. Somehow while we treaded water he’d moved closer to me, and I could feel the moving water beneath the surface pulsing against my own legs. “In fact, in elementary school I wanted to be an Olympic diver. I had no fear.”
“I can just imagine.” A tiny Daniel, diving into the pool, his scrawny body plunging the surface as he practiced relentlessly. “What made you change your mind?”
“I look terrible in Speedos.” His grin widened and he gave a cheeky laugh.
I laughed in response. “I used to pretend I was a mermaid. I’d sit on the bottom of the pool and press my legs together and make believe they were a tail.” How many hours my sister and I had lived in our neighborhood’s pool. She’d refused to go in without her goggles and nose guard, uncaring if it made her look goofy.
I paused my thoughts, waiting for the sting of memory to sweep over me. But here in the quiet lake, with no one else around but Daniel, who smiled patiently at me, there was only a small, bittersweet ping. Maybe I was starting to heal a little. Maybe eventually I could get to the point where I didn’t hurt at all.
You haven’t even told him about her, a tiny voice spoke in the back of my mind. Or about what happened.
That made the smile fall from my face.
Daniel dunked underwater, then popped up only a few inches from me, and I startled backward, jarred out of my melancholy. “Boo.”
“You scared me,” I admitted.
“I know.” His face turned serious. “I really want to kiss you again.”
I swallowed, my pulse buzzing in my veins. Right now I wanted him to kiss me again too. In this place of light and sun and water and warmth and happy things. To ground me in the moment.
He snaked an arm out and brushed the side of my hip, his thumb caressing my naked thigh. My breath panted in response, and I let my leg kicks slow to a leisurely pace, just enough to help me float without sinking. I needed that hand of his on me.
“I want that too.” My voice was so soft, a breath above a whisper, that I almost wondered if I’d said it out loud at all.
Daniel reached a hand over, grasped the side of the boat for stability and wrapped the other one under my ass to press me flush against him. It was instinct to wrap my thighs around his waist, to slide my hands along his damp flesh, tangle my fingers in the locks at his neck.
His body was burning hot between my legs, and I was suddenly very, very aware that the only things separating us right now down there were two thin scraps of fabric. His pupils enlarged, and I could barely see his irises. He swallowed, tilted his head closer to me.
I met him halfway with my mouth. Water throbbed against us, pushed and pulled at our bodies. But Daniel was my anchor, keeping me safe, keeping me floating.

Review: Rock Courtship (Rock Kiss #1.5) by Nalini Singh

Title: Rock Courtship
Author: Nalini Singh
Series: Rock Kiss #1.5

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon

A drummer for the hottest rock band on the planet, David has a single, powerful weakness: Thea, the band's publicist and the woman who steals his breath away with her every move.
Only problem is, Thea doesn't date clients--or musicians. Emotionally scarred by a cheating ex, she's not about to risk her heart with a man who has groupies buzzing around him like flies. Even if his sexy smile ties her up in knots.
What she doesn't know is that David is a one-woman man...and he's madly in love with her. David's determined to prove he's worth the risk, and willing to court her, step by exquisite step. Thea's about to discover just how long and hard this handsome drummer can play.
Just WoW!

I thought this series couldn't get any better but apparently I was so wrong (Thank God!).

In Rock Addiction we got to see Fox and Molly's story but it was also the book that Thea, Molly's sister and the band's managed and David, the band's drummer began to fall in love.

Rock courtship tells us how these totally different characters found each other. The book picks up where the previous book left off.

Thea may be the band's manager but she knows that if she wants to be taken seriously she better keep her distance. David is the total opposite from her. Once upon a time he may have admited his fellings to Thea but after been shot down he knows he must take another approach. And he does..

Thea believes that she deserves some time off after working so hard for the band. While on vacation though she can't but keep an eye on the band and that's when she gets the first memo. David won't quit until he gets his HEA. So, it begins. Thea and David exchange a lot of memos in which they argue why they should be a couple. They memos start to get so hot that they both anticipate the time they meet again. And when they do, sparks begin to fly...

Even before reading the book, we do know some info about Thea and David but we don't know the info that really matters. If you've read the previous book then you must be surely wondering why Thea is so cold and avoids men and many other questions. This book will answer those questions. Actually the book provides more than answers. It gives us a lot of background on Thea and David and their families as well. I thought that I knew all about the band in the first book but after reading Rock courtship I feel like I knew nothing.

I really loved this book but there were times that the flow was very slow. This book is a novella, which means it's a lot smaller than an actual book so I excepcted a lot of action and less background. It's not that I didn't appreciate the background but I really wanted to see more action for Thea and David.

Despite that, I had no other problem with the book. As the previous book there was a major twist that almost ripped Thea and David apart but by then, they already trusted each other so there wasn't any big drama.

What I loved the most were the incredible memos they sent to each other. Eveytime I read one, I'd feel their passion, loneliness, anger and their happiness in the end.

As always, Nalini is one of my favourite authors and I absolutely recommend this book (especially if you've read book one).
