“Are you really an archangel?”
“Impressed?”
“No. But I have some complaints I’d like to file about your personnel.”
“Talk to middle management.”
It's been six weeks after the catastrophic attack on earth. The world as we know it has come to an end, torn apart by a war between angels and humans. Trapped between a battle that has been thrust upon her, Penryn will do anything in order to keep her sister and mother alive. Even help the enemy, an angel...
When Penryn witnesses an angel being beaten and brutally stripped of his wings, her instinct tells her to help. But in her effort to help the angel she loses what she loves the most, her wheelchair-bound little sister. As Penryn watches her little sister being taken away, she's determined to get her back and they only way to achieve that is to join forces with the angel, after she helps him heal...
“Oh, please. Your giant head is getting too big for this forest. Pretty soon, you're going to get stuck trying to walk between two tress. And then, I'll have to rescue you. Again.”
This book kept me on the edge of my seat with its mind-blowing plot, action and emotion.
Penryn is the type of heroine that you love and connect with instantly. She's smart, funny but at the same time very realistc, she's strong and very loyal, she never gives up (even when she knows she'll lose) and above all she's compassionate. What intrigued me the most about her, was her relationship with her mother (who btw is really crazy, like there's no one crazier than her, like lock-me-in-an-asylum crazy). Despite her mother's craziness, though, she's still very concerned about her..
As for Raffe (yeah..Raffe's the angle) he was brilliant. An agnostic angel!Really??? That totally blew me away. Raffe is the kind of man (or angel) who you don't want to mess with. He has so many secrets and is so arrogant!!!
“In the long second before everyone absorbs what just happened, I see the angel rolling his eyes heavenward, like a teenager in the presence of overwhelming lameness. Some people just have no sense of gratitude.”
Penryn and Raffe's relationship unfolds very naturally, as they both strive to survive under adverse conditions.
“So long as you don't bleed in the shape of wing joints, you should pass for human. Oh, and don't let anyone pick you up. They'll know you're not right as soon as they feel how light you are."
"I'll be sure not to let anyone but you carry me in her arms.”
Angelfall has it all. A post-apocalyptic theme, to-die-for badass angels, a kickass heroine, cannibals and other disgusting creatures and last but not least it has a bazillion twist and turns. Yep, just when you thnk that you know what will happen everything changes. I'm telling you "you won't see the end coming"...
One negative thing this book has, it's that it's a cliffhanger. Not a big one, but a cliffhanger it is. I'm just happy that the sequel will be out in three or four months. I can't wait!!!
Highly recommended!!!
It's been six weeks since angels of the apocalypse descended to demolish the modern world. Street gangs rule the day while fear and superstition rule the night. When warrior angels fly away with a helpless little girl, her seventeen-year-old sister Penryn will do anything to get her back.
Anything, including making a deal with an enemy angel.
Raffe is a warrior who lies broken and wingless on the street. After eons of fighting his own battles, he finds himself being rescued from a desperate situation by a half-starved teenage girl.
Traveling through a dark and twisted Northern California, they have only each other to rely on for survival. Together, they journey toward the angels' stronghold in San Francisco where she'll risk everything to rescue her sister and he'll put himself at the mercy of his greatest enemies for the chance to be made whole again.
