Review: The Devil In Disguise (Bad Things #1) by Cynthia Eden

Title: The Devil In Disguise
Author: Cynthia Eden
Series: Bad Things #1

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
Don’t make the devil angry…

Luke Thorne loves having one hell of a good time. As the ruler of every dark creature to walk the earth, he certainly has more than a bit of a bad side. He lives for danger and isn’t the type to lose his heart—mostly because he doesn’t have one. Then she walks into his life.

Mina James is seduction in the flesh, a perfect temptation that the devil himself couldn’t pass up. Too late, Luke realizes he’s let a real siren into his life, a woman who is bent on using his dark powers to free herself from hidden enemies. Since Luke isn’t the type of man to be used, he should walk away from her, but…something about Mina draws him close.

Soon he’s realizing that she isn’t who she appears to be. Not dark and cold, but burning red hot. Mina is a woman fighting for her life—and the Lord of the Dark suddenly finds himself in an unlikely role…hero. Luke isn’t going to let her enemies destroy Mina. He will fight heaven and hell to keep her. But in the end, the secrets they both carry may just rip apart a love that should never have been…

There are Bad Things in the world…very, very bad. Are you ready for them?
Cynthia Eden’s new series is simply amazing!

This series features an abundance of paranormal and even mythological creatures. Judging from the first book, we are definitely in for a treat!

Mina James has a problem. Luke Thorne is her solution, or at least he is supposed to have her solution. Even though Mina knows what has to be done, approaching Luke isn’t exactly as easy as it sounds, not if the rumors she has heard are true. But Mina is running out of time and if she has to choose between Luke and death then approaching Luke doesn’t sound as bad.

Even from their first encounter Luke can tell there is more to Mina than she lets on but that certainly doesn’t stop him from getting closer. The closer he gets though; the sooner he realizes that her secrets might as well get the devil killed.

I truly love reading book by Cynthia Eden. I just love how she plays with the genres and we end up reading more than just a paranormal love story. The Devil in Disguise was a brilliant start to a series that will feature a variety of paranormal creatures. Luke was an incredible character and I loved his close friendship with Julian and Rayce, his bodyguards (? not that he needed bodyguards but they were damn good) I definitely hope we see more of them and of Luke’s brother, Leo as well.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Torn is the fourth book in the LOST series and tells the story of Victoria and Wade, of the team members!

Victoria and Wade are partners but in the last book, Shattered, we saw them come closer. In Torn the chemistry between them explodes! Victoria may be an intelligent, brilliant woman but she is a woman with secrets and she cannot allow anyone to know them. To keep her secrets hidden, Victoria keeps everyone at distance, even her friends at LOST but Wade has had enough. After almost losing her in Shattered, he refuses to let her push him away. When a new case takes them to Savannah and Victoria’s past is questioned, she knows she will have to trust Wade even if it means revealing her secrets.

Torn was amazing and super-HOT! Victoria and Wade’s relationship built up really quickly but it was only expected considering their feelings developed in the previous book! Moreover, I think I’m not wrong when I say that this is NOT the end of the series. Eden adds two new members in the LOST team, Asher and his twin sister, Anna. The twins have their own secrets and I can’t wait to read their stories!

I really liked this book but I’d have loved to catch up with some of the previous couples as well, especially Gabe and Eve. Maybe we will get a chance in the next book!

Review: Better Off Undead (Blood and Moonlight #2) by Cynthia Eden

Title: Better Off Undead
Author: Cynthia Eden
Series: Blood and Moonlight #2

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
Detective Jane Hart is just getting used to paranormal life in New Orleans. Monsters are real, and she’s the lucky cop who has to deal with them on a daily basis. Werewolves, vampires, witches, and demons—she has to face them all and keep their paranormal madness in check.

When a killer targets human men—and leaves their bodies scattered in local cemeteries--Jane suspects she may be looking at the crimes of a werewolf gone rogue. In order to hunt down the beast, Jane once again teams up with her werewolf lover, alpha Aidan Locke. But Aidan has been keeping secrets from Jane, dark secrets that will destroy her world.

Because Jane isn’t the hunter on her latest investigation. She’s the prey. And when a vampire attack leaves her helpless, the woman that Jane was before will vanish. She’ll become the one thing she fears most and Aidan…

Her fierce lover may have to become her executioner.
Freaking loved it! I can't wait for the next one! I'm in love with these two!

Better off undead is the second book in the Blood and Moonlight series and it continues Jane and Aidan’s story. I wouldn’t recommend reading this one without reading the first book!

This book picks up almost exactly where the previous left off. There are still secrets waiting to be unfold. While Jane and Aidan are trying to balance their relationship, their worlds collide. Jane has done a great job at keeping the supernatural in order but how good a job can you actually do when you’re a mortal fighting against supernatural creatures? Jane is about to discover that her mortality comes at a price and playing “hero” has consequences.

Better off undead was mind-blowing! I expected something like that to happen but OMG the author did an incredible job with them. Since I’m trying really hard not to give anything away, I’m just going to say that the second book in the series changes everything. I’m also loving the dynamics between Annette, the Voodoo Queen and Paris, Aidan’s second in command. There’s definitely something going on there and I hope it works out.

I really can’t wait to read Bitter Blood. I’m so into Jane and Aidan’s world and I’m not ready to let them go yet!

     Review:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shattered is the third book in the super amazing LOST series by Cynthia Eden. This book tells the story of bad boy Jax and Sarah, a profiler for the LOST team.

The LOST team were needed in New Orleans to solve a case and now their job is done. But as soon as they close this case and the team is ready to pack, a new one emerges. Jax may be a notorious enemy to have but he wasn’t always a man people knew to fear. Actually Jax has no idea who he was before he was forced to live and that’s when the LOST team comes in.

When Jax hires the LOST team he does so partially because he wants more time with beautiful Sarah and partially because it’s high time he learned who he is. From the first time he met Sarah, Jax knew there could be something between them, if only Sarah could admit it. Sarah has always been different from others around her. Growing up with a serial killer for a father, Sarah could always see through people.

Jax is a challenge for her, someone she shouldn’t want but someone she can’t stay away from. Now they must work together to uncover Jax’s past. Everything changes when people start disappearing and all evidence points to Jax.

Holy cow! This was amazing! I mean even from the previous book we could feel the tension between Jax and Sarah but living it through them was so much different. Jax and Sarah were two tortured characters who were still trying to figure out themselves. Sarah lived in fear of becoming like her father while Jax’s life was no better. He didn’t have anything to live for. After years of struggling to escape hunger and poverty, Jax is now a successful, feared businessman in New Orleans. Their relationship was like dynamite, explosive. Jax and Sarah shared something deeper than an attraction, they shared a bond.

There was so much suspense and action. This is the first book in the series where we have two villains instead of one and that alone is enough to keep you at the edge of your seat. We get to see some interesting characters and of course the other members of the LOST team Gabe and Eve, Dean and Emma and Victoria and Wade. There’s something definitely going on between Wade and Victoria but I’m not sure whether or not they are going to end up together. They are amazing both of them but I don’t see them as a couple.

The end was unbelievable. You’ll never see it coming. I couldn’t believe that was the end. But I’m kind of glad because that means we will be seeing more of Jax and Sarah in the future.

If you follow the LOST series then you’re going to love this one!

Excerpt:

“No judgment,” he murmured. “There’s no anger in your eyes, no rage or disgust at me for being a cold bastard. No pity for the kid I was who got beaten in a dirty alley and left to die.”

“Don’t be too sure you understand what I feel.”

“Why not? I actually think I understand you very, very well.”

Sarah backed up a step.

A faint smile curved his lips. “It was there from the first time I saw you. That instant connection. Doesn’t happen often. Actually, it’s never happened to me before. I looked up, saw you, and thought—”

Sarah pretty much ran for the door.

But he caught her. His hands wrapped around her and Jax pulled her back against his body. His hold wasn’t hard or rough. Oddly, it was infinitely tender.

“Do you know what I saw when I looked in your eyes?” he whispered into her ear.

Sarah shook her head.

“You were hurting. Trying to hide your pain, but I could still see it. I looked at you and thought—I never want her to hurt again.”

Tears stung her eyes. “You don’t know me. Or what I’ve done.” Jax thought his past was bad? It was nothing compared to hers. She still had nightmares that had her waking in the night, choking for breath, and begging for help.

Help that hadn’t come. Not in time.

“Tell me why you came to see me tonight, Sarah.”

She sucked in a quick breath and decided to go with the truth. “Because I didn’t want to lie in bed and be afraid. Because I didn’t want to think about the past or the future.” Because she’d felt that insane connection between them, too.

The first time she’d seen him, she’d looked into his eyes and thought—

He can handle all my darkness. He won’t ever be afraid of what I tell him.

Because his gaze had told her that he’d already looked into hell … and hadn’t given a damn about the demons there.

He turned her in his arms. She made herself look up and into his eyes. He was so warm and strong against her. And he made her … want. Yearn for things that she’d denied herself for so very long.

Because she hadn’t wanted anyone to get close. She hadn’t trusted anyone with all her secrets.

She didn’t trust him, either. She’d be a fool to do that. But—she did want him. And every instinct Sarah possessed screamed at her that Jax Fontaine could give her the sensual oblivion she craved.

A few hours to forget. A few hours to just pretend that I’m not the freak in the room. The monster that everyone else fears.

“What do you want from me?” Jax asked her.

Just a night. She’d be leaving New Orleans soon, flying out on a plane and heading back to her little house in the suburbs of Atlanta. They wouldn’t see each other again. So no one else would know about what happened tonight. Just her.

Just him.

Title: Beware of Me
Author: Cynthia Eden
Series: Dark Obsession #4

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N
Criminal. Killer. Monster. Ethan Barclay has been called many things in life, and he usually doesn't care what people say about him. He's tough, hard, and brutal when he needs to be. But even the most dangerous of men can have a weakness. Ethan's weakness has--and always will be--Carly Shay.
Their pasts are tied together--twisted and melded by blood and death. Walking away from Carly was the hardest thing that Ethan ever did, but it was also his one good deed. He knew Carly deserved far better than him, and he wanted her to have a perfect life, a life that didn't involve paying for Ethan's sins.
Only now the secrets from their past have been revealed, and Carly's life is on the line. Ethan's enemies, Carly's enemies--the predators are closing in on them. But Ethan isn't going to let Carly be threatened. He will move heaven and hell to protect her. He won't lose Carly, not again, and for those foolish enough to try and take her from him...they are about to see just how deadly Ethan truly can be.
The 4th book in the Dark Obsession series tells the story of bad boy Ethan and Carly, Julianna’s sister.

This was a special book for me as we don’t often get to read the villain/bad boy’s side of story. Ethan has been the series bad boy since book #1. In the previous book, Need Me, Carly’s sister was in danger and so Carly and Ethan met once again. We never really knew the real Ethan until he encountered Carly again.

Ethan travels to New York to do what he should have done long ago, protect Carly. After everything Carly has been through she just wants to live as normal as she can manage. She wants nothing but to forget her past, especially the secret she and Ethan share.

I just loved Ethan and Carly. Ethan wanted to protect her but it was Carly who really protected him all these years. Both main characters were a mystery. They might share a deadly secret but each had their own too. Carly was a very complicated character, even more than Ethan but he was the real enigma. Uncovering their past was like riding a roller coaster. Unpredictable!

They were strong, brave and courageous. Ethan wasn’t a villain not to this story and not to the ones before. Circumstances forced him to take actions that he may regret but at the time were necessary. The tension is palpable from the beginning and yet you will never guess what’s coming next.

In Beware of me we also get to see Victor Monroe, Sophie and Lex and Faith. Good news is that Victor will be getting his story in Mine to Protect, perhaps with Zoe?! I really want to read Victor’s story. He seems like an alpha male type of a guy and every time Zoe’s name is mentioned in the book he was like a berserker. He is going to be a fierce main character. I wish we could get some more info about Faith too (maybe even her cousin, Charles). I didn’t think we would see her again but she really has an important role in the book.

Beware of me isn’t your typical romance book. It has many surprises, much suspense, action, mystery and many more twists. Who is the villain is the villain’s book? That’s for you to find out.

I can’t wait for more.

Highly recommended!

Excerpt

“Have you looked long enough?” he asked. His voice was a deep, dark rumble. Sexy.

She didn’t want to find anything about her jailer to be sexy. This attraction she had to him—it was odd. Unwanted.

But…there. Instinctive. Primal. Even her heart was already beating faster, and not just because she thought escape was at hand. Because he was close, and he stirred her.

Ella lowered her hand away from the glass. She was going to try logic with him first. She’d plead her case. Perhaps that tactic would work.

And perhaps not.

“You’ve had plenty of time to look at me,” Ella murmured. “I suppose I thought it was only fair for me to have the same opportunity.”

His jaw hardened. Just a small movement, but she saw it and Ella liked that she’d gotten to him.

“Did you think I didn’t know? I could feel it when you were close.” She motioned toward the mirror, then toward the video camera mounted near the ceiling. “I think this was all a bit…much, don’t you? I mean, I’m locked in. It’s not as if I can plot some terrible wickedness here.”

“You can plot it,” he allowed, “you just can’t carry it out.”

Ella took a step closer to him.

He offered her his hand. “It’s time we were officially introduced. My name is Eric Pate, and I’m in charge of the FBI’s Para Unit.”

She stared at his hand.

The Para Unit. There had been whispers about that group for years. Government agents who policed the creatures that went bump in the night. According to the gossip she’d heard, if a supernatural got on the wrong side of the Para Unit, well, that supernatural found his—or her—butt tossed into Purgatory.

Is Purgatory real?

Ella was very much afraid that it was.

“I don’t bite,” Eric murmured. His hand was still offered toward her.

“No.” Ella cleared her throat. “I think that’s my deal.” Because she didn’t want to show him her fear, she put her hand in his.

Heat.

Her breath caught in her throat. And, yes, she still breathed. Her heart still beat, she could still feel pain and pleasure. Despite the tales heard by so many, paranormals were still alive. They could hurt, they could feel…just like humans.

Ella had thought that the man before her was cold. Emotionless. After all, a darkness seemed to cling to him like a shroud, but when they touched—fire seemed to ignite in her hand. Her heart beat even faster, nearly racing out of control. Her breasts ached, as if wanting, needing a lover’s touch. And—

She tried to pull away.

But his hand tightened around hers. She could feel the strength in that hand.

“Is something wrong?”

Yes, you’re what’s wrong! The man before her was far from human, no matter what he wanted to pretend. And she should not be reacting to him that way. His scent wasn’t human. It was just slightly…off. Everything about him was, yet she was still feeling that pull between them.

A long awaited book.

Ever since we met Eric, which was from the very beginning, I’ve always been curious about him. He always seemed so cold, in control, never gave anything away, in few words the perfect robot. As a director of the FBI’s para unit, Eric must be those things to survive. But even the coldest man has a weak spot.

Ella was just rescued from one prison to end up in another. It may be a luxurious one but a prison nonetheless. Ella has had enough. She can’t understand why they won’t let her leave, she hasn’t done anything. She is the victim. She has survived this long and she won’t let that arrogant director imprison her even if he thinks he is protecting her.

She knows he’s watching, he knows that he has to set her free but they just don’t care. Has the coldest man alive found his match?

Deal with the devil was the BEST. Eric was truly a devil even with Ella by his side. It wasn’t until the end that I got to trust and love him. Ella was alone for so long and when she met Eric, the real Eric and not the director of the para unit, she wanted to believe in him. No one knows what Eric really is. His agents believe he’s a human but if only they knew the truth. Eric is far from human and Ella is far from the ordinary vampire. The truth is about to be revealed and nobody is ready for what’s coming.

I really liked Ella and Eric together as a couple. They were so passionate, strong and brave.

What I didn’t like much was the diversity of the species that each book in the series has. We’ve seen everything so far: vamps, werewolves, hybrids, djinns and a couple other things. I was fine with all those mainly because they are the most known paranormals but also because I could believe in those beings. Deal with the devil packs a whole new species, one that we don’t see often, one that is unique. Still that didn’t bother me much. I just don’t think that a story has to have so many unique species to be amazing!

What I loved was the characters. All of them were great. We got to see Duncan and Holly, Olivia and Shane and Connor.

I don’t know if this is the end to the Purgatory series but I know that I would love to see more. I hope we do see more.

Deal with the devil was an incredible read full of action, suspense, many twists, romance and many hot paranormal creatures.

I highly recommend it!

Twisted
Lost # 2
By: Cynthia Eden
Releasing April 28th, 2015
Avon
In the second seductive Lost novel from New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden, an obsessed Last Option Search Team agent goes looking for trouble—and finds her in the Big Easy.

Dean Bannon comes to New Orleans for one reason only: to track down a missing sixteen-year-old girl. That’s before he meets the drop-dead gorgeous con artist who makes him want to lose his legendary control.

With her past, Emma Castille doesn’t claim to be psychic. She just notices things other people don’t. Like the fear in a runaway’s eyes-or the pain in an ex-FBI agent’s heart. Her chemistry with Dean is blistering, but Emma follows her passion . . . not someone else’s orders.

Then a madman breaks into Emma’s home and leaves a twisted message: “You’re next.” Now Dean refuses to let her out of his sight until he pries every last secret from her full, sexy lips. And suddenly Emma’s aching to give him everything he wants.

“You don’t realize how very much you want to live until death tries to take you”
The second book in the Lost series blew me away!

When I read the blurb, I wasn’t as excited as I had been about Broken but I was so wrong! I loved this book more than I did the first one.

The team is needed once again! Dean travels all the way to New Orleans in search of a runaway sixteen year old girl. He may not find what he’s looking for but fate has other plans for him.

Emma Castille never claimed to be anything more than a good observer. It’s not her fault is she notices the little details that people choose to ignore. It’s not her fault that she can’t forget the fear in Julia’s eyes or the fact that Dean isn’t as good at hiding his feelings as he thought. Emma knows that she can help Dean find the missing girl if only he lets her help.

What neither anticipates is a note in Emma’s house claiming that she’s next. They both know that there’s a killer among them but what they don’t seem to realize is that the killer is closer than they think.

OMG! Twisted totally blew me away. I thought the first book was awesome but this was beyond incredible and I just know that the next one will be even more amazing. I can’t deny it, I’m a huge fan of Eden’s but if you had read all of her nooks you would be too. I really loved Broken, the story and the plot were perfect but there were times that Eve wasn’t such a great heroine. With Emma I had no problems at all.

Emma and Dean were very alike. They both were strong, determined, loyal, protective and so stubborn. I liked Emma! She was so fierce regarding the people she cared about. She didn’t care what others thought of her. Most, just like Dean in the beginning, thought that she was a con artist just like her father but they were all wrong not only about her but about her father as well. Nobody knew that her father was everything to her or that when she lost him she lost (literally) everything. Everything she now had, she had to fight to get.

“With me… without me you’ll always be a good man. I just make you better.”

The romance between them was evident from the beginning. Dean had it really bad from the first time he saw her. I was so anxious to see how things were going to end up with them since they were both very strong characters. I wasn’t disappointed. Seriously these two lit the pages on fire.

As if I wasn’t anxious enough about the romance, the suspense was killing me too. I had no idea who the threat was and I really wanted to find out. Until I did, everyone was a suspect.

I’m hoping that the next book will be Sarah and Jax’s story. We already know Sarah and Jax is a new hot bad boy character (he’s actually Emma’s ex) and I have a feeling that you’ll just love him. Also there’s something going on between Wade and Victoria. I’ve no idea if they are going to end up together but I wouldn’t have a problem if they did.

All in all, Twisted is a must read. Just read it! If you’re not a fan of romance (seriously, who isn’t?) you’ll love the suspense and the action but if you already love these, then this book is for you.

Highly recommended!

Excerpt:

You’re not psychic.”

Were they back to that?

She put her hands in her lap. Emma didn’t believe in making nervous gestures. She didn’t believe in giving away anything at all with her body language.

“What you are …” Ah, now he did smile. Her father would have called it a shit-eating grin. The more PC term was probably a Cheshire cat smile. Whatever the name, that smile annoyed her. “What you are, Ms. Castille … is a criminal. A fraud.”

Maybe she should grab her chest and dramatically gasp. She didn’t. “Wonderful for you,” Emma said. “You pulled up a background report one me.” She let her eyes widen a bit. “It’s amazing just what one can find if a person knows how to use a search engine.”

A furrow appeared between his eyes.

“How about I say what … you are?” Emma asked him. “A washed-up FBI agent who snapped on the job. You held your control tight every single day, but the bad guys—they just didn’t stop, did they? You hunted them, you stopped them, and more appeared. While you were fighting the system, they kept coming, and the bodies kept piling up onyour watch.”

He shot right back to his feet. The folding chair slammed down behind him.

“You and your father bilked desperate people,” he accused. “You told them you were psychic, that you could help find their missing children. And you—”

“We found them.” Two girls who’d vanished. They’d found them. “We just didn’t get to them in time.” And she would not go back to that place.

She motioned toward Manuel. He knew the signal meant he could take over her booth. There was no way, no way, that she was going to stay there with that prick while he slammed the most painful moments from her past in Emma’s face.

Manuel, pale, tattooed, with piercings in his lips and eyebrows, quickly claimed her spot.

Emma jumped to her feet. Muttered her thanks, and fled right past the guy she was starting to think of as Agent Jackass.

She pushed through the crowd. Wasn’t there always a crowd in Jackson Square? And that was why she loved the place. It was so easy to vanish in a crowd. To be anyone.

The crowd closed around her.

To be no one at all.

She hurried around the back of the cathedral. She knew the streets so well. Her home was close by. Emma would get inside and forget Agent Jackass.

I’m being followed.

Emma stilled at the intersection. A horse-drawn carriage rolled by her. Voices called out.

And he touched her.

Emma didn’t flinch. Didn’t scream. She looked down at the hand on her shoulder. “When a woman runs away from you, that means you need to stay the hell away from her.”

His hold tightened on her. “You and I aren’t done.”

She looked up at his face. Had she really thought the man was handsome? Annoying, that was all Dean Bannon was.

“I need to find that girl, and you’re the only lead I have so far.”

“Then you’re not a very good investigator.”

Title: Broken

Series: Lost #1

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Ex-SEAL and LOST founder Gabe Spencer is accustomed to the unusual in his job. But when knockout Eve Gray steps into his office, he's rattled. For the mysterious woman is a dead ringer for the heiress thought to be the latest prey of the serial killer who goes by the name Lady Killer.
When Eve awoke in an Atlanta hospital, her past was a blank slate. Then she recognized her own face in the newspaper and vowed to learn the truth. Determined to confront the nightmares hidden in her mind, she never expects to find a partner in Gabe.
As Gabe and Eve work together, their explosive attraction becomes irresistible. Gabe knows that his desire for Eve is growing too strong, bordering on a dangerous obsession, but nothing pulls him away from her. And when another Eve lookalike disappears, Gabe vows to protect Eve at all costs. While Eve may have forgotten the killer in her past, it's clear he hasn't forgotten her
A new suspenseful romantic series filled with serial killers and a team who will do anything to find the lost ones.

Broken tells the story of Eve, our victim and Gabe, an ex-SEAL with a haunting past. Gabe is the owner of an organization called Lost. He and his team are experts in finding people who have been missing and Eve Gray may not be missing but she’s definitely lost. After waking up in the hospital with multiple injuries, Eve cannot remember anything even her real name.

When she comes across a photo of a woman that looks exactly like her in the newspaper, she knows that if there is someone who can help her, it’s Gabe. You see the woman in the newspaper is considered dead. She’s one of the Lady Killer’s victims. Only Eve isn’t dead, she’s alive. Gabe is shocked to realize that Eve might actually be who she claims to be. He’s suspicious but at the same time he can’t deny what he feels.

When the murders begin once again and more women are lost, Gabe knows that if Eve doesn’t remember her past, she will be next.

I definitely found what I was looking for. When I first read the blurb I was beyond excited and I didn’t lose my excitement while reading the book. It had a very intriguing and suspenseful plot, hot sexy romance, many awesome characters, a lot of twists and so much more. You will suspect everyone, I definitely did. No one is really innocent. Even Gabe’s team share dark pasts.

I loved so much Dean, Wade, Sarah and Victoria. I’m sure that they will all be getting their stories and I really can’t wait. They were such an incredible team. We get a bit of everyone’s background. They may all be quite different but what the team has in common is the demons of their pasts.

What I also loved was the fact that the main plot, Eve’s past wasn’t “overshadowed” by the romance. In fact, I think this was the first book I read by Eden in which I didn’t care as much about the romance as I did with the killer’s identity. I read as fast as I could just to find out who the killer was and once it was revealed my heart was racing so fast for Eve and Gabe.

Eve and Gabe’s story was an incredible beginning to the Lost series. The only reason I’m not giving the book 5 stars is because a) Even and Gabe’s relationship developed too early and progressed too fast and b) how can someone who has suffered as much as Eve has be so blunt about her emotions?! Apart from these little problems, I had no other major issues with the book.

Another stunning read by Eden! I’m a huge fan but I’m always impressed by her books. You can’t go wrong with this author.

Highly recommended!

Excerpt

BROKEN by Cynthia Eden – Excerpt

“Do you think I’m a con artist or a victim?”

“I think you’re a woman who has been hurt.” No denying that. “One of my team members, Wade Monroe, is contacting the Montgomery family. We’ll get DNA from them and find out—”

“If I’m Jessica.” There was hope in the words. Enough hope to break his heart.

Gabe nodded.

“When will we know?”

It would take a few days, even with the strings that he could pull. “As soon as possible,” he said, not wanting to give her a specific timetable.

“Thank you.” Then, just like that, she was across the car, giving him a tight hug. “Thank you.”

His arms wrapped around her, an instinctive response. She smelled faintly of flowers, a sweet scent that teased his nose, and her body was soft against his.

She tried to pull away, as if realizing what she’d just done.

For an instant he was tempted to hold her, to keep her close.

She’s a client. Focus.

He let her go, but his body ached.

“I … um … I should get inside.”

Yes, she should. While he was still clutching tight to his control. The control that said he shouldn’t push her. Shouldn’t want her so much. Not when she’d already been hurt so badly.

Her fingers reached for the door.

“Let me,” he said, voice rumbling, and Gabe climbed from the Jag. In seconds he was on the passenger side, opening her door for her. She rose, and her body brushed against his.

He stepped back. Distance. He seriously needed to put some distance between then. But even with some fast steps back, he could still smell that light and sexy scent that clung to her body. And he still wanted her.

“Your shrink asked me a lot of questions about you,” Eve told him as she stood temptingly close.

Gabe inclined his head. “I’m sure—”

“I think she wanted to know why I respond so much to you.”

Oh, hell, she’d just said … He cleared his throat even as part of his body surged in quick response to her. “It’s a tense situation, you’re—”

“You don’t look at me as if I’m a victim.”

He stopped talking.

“I mean, you know what I am, but you still look at me and seem to just see me … as a woman.”

“Others see you the same way.” Doc Tyler sure did. Bastard.

“It’s different with you,” she murmured as she stepped even closer to him. Her head had tilted back so she could look into his eyes. “I don’t know what I’ve felt for other men before.”

Why did the idea of others have his body knotting with tension?

“But I know that when I see you, I want.” A hushed confession. “I just … I needed to tell you that.”

And he needed to make his self-control a hell of a lot stronger. Her lips were just inches from his, and he wanted her mouth beneath his. Wanted her lips open. Needed to taste her.

“You’re the first man I’ve wanted since I opened my eyes in that hospital.”

He could actually feel his control splintering. Client. Cli—

“You probably don’t want me. I—I might not be your type.”

Now her gaze had fallen, as if in embarrassment. Had she really just asked if she was his type? She was probably every damn man’s type.

“But you make me feel normal again, so I had to tell you—”

His fingers curved under her chin. “Eve …”

Her smile was a little too big. Too bright. “I don’t think I can handle anything else right now, I’m …” She pulled away. Stumbled onto the sidewalk. “I just wanted to tell you how I felt,” she told him again.

Then she walked into the shelter, her steps hurried. As if she were running.

From him.

He stared after her. She wanted him.

And she was so fucking beyond his reach.
