He spent more than a thousand years imprisoned in hell… Drake is an ancient dragon shifter, one of the most powerful beings in existence, but a millennium trapped in utter darkness has left him ill-equipped for modern society. If it wasn’t for Victoria, the sweet female brave enough to befriend him, he’d be lost. She’s smart and gorgeous and everything he never dared dream of during his years of agonizing loneliness. He may not have anything to offer her, but one thing he knows for sure: he’d die to keep her safe.
Only to fall into the heaven of her touch. Victoria is a wolf shifter, healer of the Stavros pack. She’s seen a lot, but she’s never met anybody quite like Drake, the fiery, fascinating shifter who can blaze through the skies unseen by mere mortals. He’s lost, dangerous, and the last male she should fall in love with, but the more time she spends helping him navigate modern life, the deeper—and hotter—their connection becomes. She’s thrilled when they finally locate his family, but reuniting with his people plunges them both into unimaginable danger. It’s a race against the clock trying to figure out who wants them dead and who they can trust, especially when the threat is closer than they ever imagined.
"I don't pity you. But I do love you and that means I get to care" -Victoria
Taste of darkness in the second book in the Darkness series by Katie Reus. This book tells the story of Drake, a dragon shifter and Victoria, a wolf shifter/healer.
This book was so different from the first book in the series!!! I totally loved it.
Drake has been trapped in hell as long as he can remember himself. He has no memory of his life before hell or how he ended up there. When he's saved by Vega, Finn and Lyra's daughter (the main couple of the first book) he's accepted as part of the pack. But even before he's accepted in the pack, Drake has encountered his mate, Victoria.
Victoria, is the pack healer and thus she is constantly protected. Although she's free to do whatever she wants, Victoria feels that her pack is holding her life back. When the pack saves Drake, she's happy to teach him how to survive in her world. While helping Darke, Victoria discovers that she loves spending time with him but she can't let herser fall for him due to his lack of memory.
When two strangers show up, claiming to be Drake's siblings, Drake has no choice but to give them a chance to prove that. Victoria is both wary of them but happy for Drake to have finaly found his family. But Drake isn't as trusting as Victoria is and he questions everything. Above everything though, he's confused about the choices he has to make but he knows one thing for sure, Victoria will be part of his future.
As Drake is finally catching up with life, the people that send him to hell are determined to do anything to take him back again once and for all. The danger is closer than they think...
I loved this book. Katie did it again! I don't usually read or even like books with dragon shifters but this book was an exception for me. Drake wasn't the typical dragon. He was arrogant but he was also selfless, kind, a little naive and that really drew me to him. He believed that he wasn't worthy of Victoria because he didn't have anything to offer to her but Victoria didn't really care about that, she just wanted to be with him. They were so perfect.
What I also liked were the secondary characters. I loved, loved Rhea and Conall, Drake's brother, Bran and Keelin, Drake's sister and of course Gabriel. I really hope Katie is planning to give them their own story, especially Rhea and Conall ( HOT!). We also get to see Finn, Lyra and Vega. It was so amazing seeing how much they have progressed!
All in all, I really loved this book. It was so different from the other book in the series, it was filled with action, suspense, lots of dragons and testosterone, romance and a lot of flirting going on!
Highly recommended!
