Review: Take a Chance (Rosemary Beach #7) by Abbi Glines

Title: Take a Chance
Author: Abbi Glines
Series: Rosemary Beach #7

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

When Harlow Manning's rocker father goes on tour, he sends her to Rosemary Beach, Florida, to live with her half-sister, Nan. The problem: Nan despises her. Harlow has to keep her head down if she wants to get through the next nine months, which seems easy enough. Until gorgeous Grant Carter walks out of Nan's room in nothing but his boxer briefs.
Grant made a huge mistake getting involved with a girl with venom in her veins. He'd known about Nan's reputation, but still he couldn't resist her. Nothing makes him regret the fling more than meeting Harlow, who sends his pulse racing. Yet Harlow wants nothing to do with a guy who could fall for her wicked half-sister even if there are no strings between Grant and Nan. Grant is desperate to redeem himself in Harlow's eyes, but did he ruin his chances before he even met her?
"She needed me. No one had ever needed me. It had made me weak." -Greant

Take a chance is the first book in the Chances new series by Abbi Glines.

So, although I'm a huge fan of Abbi Glines, I was a bit hesitant about this book and all because of Nan (if you haven't already guessed it, I'm a #Nanhater). Every time I hear her name is like I hear "Beware there is a lot of DRAMA around". Especially ever since I found out about Nan and Grant's relationship, my respect for him has dropped a lot. But I still couldn't stay away from this book. Firstly becasue it's written by Abbi Glines and secondly because I really wanted to find out Harlow's story.

Grant is one of the famous Rosemary Beach’s favorite playboys. He'll never settle down. He's realationship with Nan makes things even worse, cause even if he wanted to settle down no one would want to end up with him after his past with Nan. Grant thinks he's done with Nan but for how long?!

Meet Harlow Manning. Harlow is so sweet, loving, caring but she's off limits. For Grant, Harlow is very dangerous, even more than Nan, because she makes him want more, when he never did. And that is something that Grant isn't ready to deal with, yet.

Harlow's unfortunate enough to be Nan's half sister. Harlow was always loved and shelterd but that doesn't mae her stupid. She knows that in order to survive living with Nan she has to stay away. But how can she when their father, Kiro, who's on tour wants Harlow to stay in the house at Rosemary, exactly where Nan is. Harlow isn't the biggest fan of Nan and even comes to hate her when she witnesses Grant walking through Nan's bedroom one morning. Everything she ever felt for him is wiped away in that moment. How can she be with a man that always runs back to Nan?

Grant wants to gain Harlow's trust once again but he knows that it's not going to be easy. But even if Harlow fogives him will they ever be able to survive behind all these lies and secrets?

I'm not really sure how I felt about this book, which is a first for me. I usually LOVE Abbi's books but with this one, things are complecated. Even when Harlow forgives Grant, I'm not sure I'm able to either forgive him or trust him. To me he isn't worthy of her. I just hope that maybe the sequel wll be able to redeem him to my eyes (not that sure though). Grant will do anything in his power to restore his image to her, even stay at her side when well kept secrets begin to come out.

Take a chance is a wellsuited title. Because for Grant that's all there is, one more chance. Harlow is taking a huge risk with him, a risk I'm not sure he's worhy of, but still it's her hoice. In my opinion, I believe tha Harlow just forgave things too easily. Sure Grant is Grant but still...

On the other hand, Harlow isn't an innocent either. She has many secrets, secrets that very few know but affect all of them. I think she should have told Grant her secret from the beginning! He should have known!

Some of the things I really liked was getting some glimpses from the other characters in the Rosemary Beach series. We got to see Rush, Blaire, Woods and Della and many more. We also get to meet Mase, Harlow's brother, whom I really liked (I can't wait to see more of him) and meet Kiro for the first time. Of course, we have see Kiro before but never like this. Kiro's story will definitely shock you!

All in all, this was another great Rosemary Beach book. I was quite uncertain of this book (I still am) but I'm hopping the sequel will do justice to it. Abbi is one of my favourite authors and I'm sure she's going to figure something out. I can't wait for the next book!!

Totally recommended!

She still carries the physical and emotional scars of living with a strung-out mother, Mona—secrets she keeps from everyone, including her close circle of college friends.

Review: Playing With Fire (Phoenix Fire #3) by Cynthia Eden

Title: Playing With Fire
Author: Cynthia Eden
Series: Phoenix Fire #3

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

An Old Flame
Cassie Armstrong has plenty to atone for. The daughter of the most immoral researcher ever to pick up a scalpel, she's determined to use her own brilliance in genetics to repair the damage her family has done to the paranormals. Especially Dante, the first of the phoenixes, the one they call the Immortal. He's been haunting her dreams since she was a little girl, and she's been trying to ease his pain for almost as long. If only he remembered any of it. . .
Dante doesn't know what Cassie's story is. He almost doesn't care. The minute he sees her, all he can think is mine. But there's more to the pretty little doctor than meets the eye. And Dante isn't the only one to notice. He can't trust her, but he can't stay away--and if he wants to learn her secrets, he's going to have to fight like hell to keep them both alive. . .

Oh my God, WOW!

Playing with fire was way beyond my expectations!

The Phoenix series was like a roller-coaster for me. The first book was beyond amazing, the second one I didn't really liked much but this one was... abso-fucking-lutely incredible!

Cynthia Eden always manages to surprise me. This book was the best surprise ever!

Enter Dante. Dante, aka the Immortal one, is the most powerfull and oldest phoenix based on the Genesis informaton. Dante has been held a prisoner in the Genesis facilities as long as Cassie can remember.

Cassie has known Dante since she was just eight. From the very beginning she knew that Dante was the good guy and always tried to help him. Now years later, she's trying to do the good thing by finding a cure for all the "expiriments" her brother and father conducted. But as briliant as she is, finding a cure isn't that easy. She needs a little miracle to help her friends/patients and she just found it! The phoenix's tears can heal everything and nobody knows that better than Cassie. Is Dante willing to cry for Cassie once again?

The danger is closer than they think and they will do anything to have Cassie as part of their team. Old and new enemies collided in the future Cassie and Dante and trying to create...

I really loved Dante! He was so tortured by both his past before Cassie and his past with her, but yet he was strong and determined to survive and protect Cassie. Dante has died so many times while into the Genesis program that his memories aren't intact. It's hard to tell if it's a memory or just a dream. Yet every time he rises from the ashes after a death he's always searching for her, even when he doesn't recognise her, he knows that something's missing from his life and that's Cassie. Being the daughter of the man who actually created Genesis, Cassie hasn't had an easy life. Cassie and her brother have been their father's guinea pigs since they were children. The first time he "killed" her, she was just eight. But Cassie never wanted to be like her father or brother. Instead, she wanted to help the people around her and that's what she did. Above everything though, Cassie wants to help the only man she's always loved, Dante.

Cassie and Dante's love story was epic! I fell for them so fast. Their story was heart-breaking and yet healing as well. How can you love a man so deeply when he doesn't even remember you is beyond me, but Cassie loved her Dante even then. They were both so strong, protective of the people they loved and loyoal. Dante was the typical alpha hero, badass, arrogant, hot-hot-hot and territorial. At the same time, I can say that he had a very hard/unexpected past and that made him very wary of the other phoenixes and people. On the other hand, Cassie always tried to see the good in people, she wanted to help the others, she was very kind despite the cruel way she was brought up, she never gave up, she was so selfless but she had a mind of her own and was very stubborn! Cassie was such a mystery!

Playing with fire was a stupendous book! It was packed with action, many twists and turns, lots of suspense and of course romance. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! Once I finished it, I immediately re-read it! The book had a nice flow but yet the romance was never rushed. We already know that Cassie loves him but that doesn't mean that Dante feels the same. He's confused, doesn't really know what love is but what he does know is that Cassie is meant to be his. They were so perfect together. The epilogue will probably just blow you away, personally it was my favourite part of the book!

As always the secondary characters played major roles in this book. We have Trace, who we know from the first book in the series. Trace is Eve's bff and a werewolf shifter who was injected him with Lycan-70, a serum that brings out the beast and Cassie is trying to help him. Then we have Vaughn, who we have also met in a previous book. Vaughn was a vampire who was infected by a virous that affects vamps and became really violent. Vaughn is one of Cassie's patient's as well. I actually loved both of them and I can't wait to read their story. I really hope they get one. I simply cannot accept that this book is the end of the series! We also got to see Cain and Eve, the couple from the first book in the series. It was very interesting seeing how far they have come, really loved them!

This book was an exceptional addition to the series. Another 5 stars for Cynthia! Can't say I'm surprised since most of her books are 5 stars for me and this was no exception. I can't wait to read more!

Highly recommended!

Review: Rogue (Real #4) by Katy Evans

Title: Rogue
Author: Katy Evans
Series: Real #4

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Greyson King...
My boyfriend. My friend. My protector. He's the reason I wake up every morning with a smile on my face, and the reason I fall asleep limp, worn out, and aching for his warm arms around me. When we make love, he says my name like it means something. Like I mean something.
He
Lied.
His name is Greyson King, but his alias is Zero.
There's zero trace of him, he has zero past, and now I know that with him, I will have zero future.
He may leave no trace of him anywhere, but his imprint is in me, in my very soul--and I hate that a mere look at him commands the beat of my heart. The temperature of my body.
I've looked for love my entire life. I've waited for the butterflies, the rainbows...
Instead I'm in a free fall of emotions and there's no one to catch me but the one man I should be running away from. The one man I thought was my prince charming.
Except this prince charming went rogue.
Greyson will stop at nothing to make me be with him. He'll let no one stand in our way, will allow no one to threaten me, and maybe this is what scares me most of all...
What will my rogue do to keep me?

“You may be zero in your world…but you’re everything to me.”

Rogue is the fourth book in the Real series by Katy Evans.

I'll start by saying that since I've read and totally enjoyed the previous books in the series, I expected the same to apply and here. But yeah, far from it.

For me Rogue wasn't that bad of a book, I really did like it, but it was far from what I had imagined and that disappointed me.

Rogue tells the story of Melanie, Brooke's bff. Melanie is the most optimistic person you'll ever meet. She's always positive, cheerful and always searching for the one thing she can't have, her one true love, her soulmate. But searching her soulmate isn't as easy as one would think. Until him.

Enter Greyson King. Greyson is far from what Melanie is looking for, dangerous, dark and a man with a past full of secrets. What Melanie doesn't know though is that Greyson is collecting unpaid debts

for the Underground fights on behalf of his father. Greyson may not have wanted the job but if he wants answers then he'll have to take it. His life has always been ruled by his father's decisions, even now, but things are about to change.

Greyson has a deal with his father. Collect all the debts owned to him and in exchange get his mother. His relationship with Melanie is something new for him but he wants to make it work. Because with her he may have found something he never knew, love.

Rogue was an enjoyable book. I liked both Greyson and Melanie, I just didn't love them. They were both so imperfect and troubled but together they managed to find what they both were looking for. Although, there was much drama, little action and lots of romance the author managed to give the story some suspense as well (which I totally loved).

I'm going to keep it short and just say that althought I wasn't very impressed by the book, and if you have read the previous books in the series, then you should definitely give it a try.

Note: Rogue can totally be read as a stand alone!

Review: A Silent Prayer (A Prayer Series) by Samreen Ahsan

Title: A Silent Prayer
Author:  Samreen Ahsan
Series: A Prayer Series #1

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDEpo

Adam Gibson is a young and powerful Toronto millionaire. Despite his many blessings, he is an atheist, though he has an altruistic soul. He denies there is a God—until he meets a beautiful stranger in a place that does not exist for anyone but him.

Rania Ahmed strongly believes in God, but has lost hope she will ever find her soul mate. Endowed with hypnotic beauty and cursed by a brutal past, Rania has no idea she has cast a spell on Adam, who has never received more from a woman than physical pleasure. As Adam slowly discovers the true meaning of love from Rania, he begins to face his demons and reconsider his beliefs. He learns to love, forgive and repent. But as Adam grows closer to Rania, a series of strange, unexplained events threatens to drive them apart. To keep her from being destroyed by her past, he must persuade her to trust him with her deepest secrets.
In this spiritual romance, an atheist embarks on a path of enlightenment with a tormented soul who may just have the power to change everything he has ever believed to be true.

A silent prayer is a romance/religious book about two people with different beliefs.

Enter Adam Gibson. Adam may be yound but he's already a powerful Toronto millionaire and a philanthropist. Despite all his good intentions though, he couldn't be more different than Rania. Rania is a woman with beliefs. On her way to a meeting she accidentally meets Adam who is immediately attracted to her. But as he gets to know more of Rania, Adam discovers that sometimes physical attraction isn't enough and he yearns for more. In their effort to create a future together, they must both face their past, as some mysterious events threaten to rip them apart...

This book was a first for me. Really! I do read romances (a lot!) but I've never read a spiritual romance before. Thing is that I don't believe that someone would willingly change his/her beliefs just because the're in love. For example, Adam was an atheist but as he falls for Rania he's "compelled" to acknowledge her beliefs. What I liked though, was the fact that despite their differences, they managed to overcome everything and be together.

A silent prayer was an enjoyable read with a nice flow but there were times that I felt that Rania was trying to "force" Adam to believe in the things she did. Besides that, I had no problem with the book! It was actually quite a journey filled with mystery, romance, a bit of paranormal, forgiveness and faith. The characters were unique in their own way. Rania was a strong character with deep beliefs but she was mysterious as well. Adam on the other hand, was the typical businessman. Stubborn, arrogant, charming, very proud and a bit possessive.

All in all, Adam and Renia's story is more than your typical romance book. It's the journey of a tortured man and a woman who's running from her past, trying to built a future together.

Review: Beautiful Oblivion (Beautiful #3) by Jamie McGuire

Title: Beautiful Oblivion
Author: Jamie McGuire
Series: Beautiful #3

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Fiercely independent Camille "Cami" Camlin gladly moved on from her childhood before it was over. She has held down a job since before she could drive, and moved into her own apartment after her freshman year of college. Now tending bar at The Red Door, Cami doesn’t have time for much else besides work and classes, until a trip to see her boyfriend is cancelled, leaving her with a first weekend off in almost a year.
Trenton Maddox was the king of Eastern State University, dating co-eds before he even graduated high school. His friends wanted to be him, and women wanted to tame him, but after a tragic accident turned his world upside down, Trenton leaves campus to come to grips with the crushing guilt.

Eighteen months later, Trenton is living at home with his widower father, and works full-time at a local tattoo parlor to help with the bills. Just when he thinks his life is returning to normal, he notices Cami sitting alone at a table at The Red. As the baby sister of four rowdy brothers, Cami believes she’ll have no problem keeping her new friendship with Trenton Maddox strictly platonic. But when a Maddox boy falls in love, he loves forever—even if she is the only reason their already broken family could fall apart.

"No one has ever wanted someone as much as I want you" -Trent

Beautiful Oblivion is the first book in the Maddox Brother series by Jamie McGuire.

This series is a completly new series about the Maddox brothers and it totally blew me away!

Cami is the only girl in a family with three boys. It's very difficult to be independent but Cami is determined to make it on her own. But things aren't always as easy as we want them to be. Cami and her boyfriend T.J. have barely enough time to see each other before their too different lives pull them away. They are so different. They live in different states, they have different expectations and most of all they desire different things.

Enter Trent Maddox. Trent may not know what his future holds but he knows one thing: Cami will be part of it. Ever since Trent met Cami he can't stay away from her, he knows that she was meant to be his. But Trent's life hasn't been easy. As much as he wants to move forward he's always pulled back by ghosts of his past.

Beautiful Oblivion begins just before Beautiful Disaster and then continues parallel to it. We get to see Travis but our story is mainly focused on Trent, our hero and Cami, our heroine.

I was very surprised to see that deep down, Trent was just a man rulled by his guilt about a horrible accident. He let his guilt consume every aspect of his life and he didn't really see the world around him. Until Cami. Then we got to see the man "behind the mask". Trent was so sweet, protective, caring, charming, funny, passionate. But so was Cami. She was confident, strong, loyal, she wanted to protect her family and wasn't even afraid to stand up to her barbarian of a father. She was a perfect match for Trent!

What I also loved were the secondary characters. Raegan, Cami's bff surely held my attention but so did Violet, a sweet little girl that Trent "babysits" sometimes, Trent's co-workers surely made an impretion to me! They were all described to such depth, that made me wonder if they will ever get their story.

The only thing that didn't sit well with me, was that Jamie didn't actually solve Cami's family's issue. I hoped that in the end we would get a HEA, which we do, but it didn't really feel like one with that problem hanging above their heads.

Despite that everything came together as it should. Cami and Trent were a perfect combination with the right amount of chemistry and we got to see some "Pigeon" scenes (just wow).

Beautiful Oblivion was so much more than I originally anticipated. It wasn't just a story about love but about friendship, family, fate. I just hope the next book be as good as this one.

Devoured this book! Go read it!

Note : Beautiful Disaster fans will probably enjoy it the most!

Review: Silver Shadows (Bloodlines #5) by Richelle Mead

Title: Silver Shadows
Author: Richelle Mead
Series: Bloodlines #5

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.
In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.
Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.

For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian clings to hope in the face of those who tell him Sydney is a lost cause, but the battle proves daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize hold of him. . . .
Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.

“What is it with you and girls, Adrian, dear? Why do they either mean nothing to you or everything? It's always an extreme."

Silver Shadows is the fifth addition in the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead.

Silver Shadows begins when The Fiery heart left off. After the cliff-hanger of an ending of the previous book it has been really hard waiting to see what Richelle was planning to do in this book. Adrian and Sydney took my breath away. I wasn't prepared for them.

After Sydney was discovered allying with the vamps, the alchemists took care of the situation by putting Sydney in a rehabilitation center, aiming to re-educate her again. I have to say that re-education was nothing like I expected it to be. Sydney (and some other ex-alchemists) had to go so much through. Re-education is so far from what the word suggests. It should have been called tortured instead, cause that's what it trully was. They would ty to break them (by starvation and other means) and then "teach" them again the alchemists's values. So, while Sydney was re-educated Adrian was the one who had it real bad. Without Sydeney, and with no means to find her, he became self-destruct again. Drinking, partying, failing his art lessons and blocking out the people that cared for him, Adrian was the old, sweet Adrian. I was sooo sorry for. He wanted to find Sydney so bad, to be with her once again but no matter what he tried he couldn't find her.

It was so painful having to watch them lose themselves. But in the end it all worked out. I was so proud of Sydney because despite everything that she went through she was still the Sydney we loved: logical, stubborn, brave and determined to help the people who needed her. With her brains and with Adrian's *cought* (Marcus's) resources they were able to defeat the alchemists once and for all and save other ex-alchemists as well. But what they don't know is that the alchemists have more resources than anyone else. Was Sydney rescued only to be caught again???

I really loved this book! It was full of surprises, some good some not so good, and so many twists. I never expected the end though, never. Adrian and Sydney have come so far and they proved that together they are unstoppable. Such a great team!

"He was my center, and there was nothing I wouldn't do, nothing I wouldn't give up, to keep him safe."
What I also loved was Sydney's other sister Carly. She was just soooo different from the other members of the family and I can't but hope to see her story as well (maybe with Marcus?! Pls) That was one of my most favourite scenes of the book, Carly and Marcus! I'll just continue dreaming...

I hate to say this but I have to warn you that this book is another cliff-hanger. I don't know why Mead has to put us through sooo much torture but I can do nothing but wait! I'm sure it will be worth it!

All in all, Silver Shadows was abso-fucking-lutely amazing. Filled with action, romance, suspense, vamps and alchemists Silver Shadows won't disappoint. It's a real page- turner!

Highly recommended!
