When Lucy walks out of a frozen forest, wearing only a silk dress and sandals, she isn’t sure how she got there. But when she sees Colin, she knows for sure that she’s here for him.
Colin has never been captivated by a girl the way he is by Lucy. With each passing day their lives intertwine, and even as Lucy begins to remember more of her life—and her death—neither of them is willing to give up what they have, no matter how impossible it is. And when Colin finds a way to physically be with Lucy, taking himself to the brink of death where his reality and Lucy’s overlap, the joy of being together for those brief stolen moments drowns out everything in the outside world. But some lines weren’t meant to be crossed…

First of all, look at that cover! Super, amazing, brilliant. Not ashamed to admit that the cover was one of the main reasons for reading this book (and of course the blurb too). It seemed so intriguing, like nothing I’ve ever read before and so I read it.

It all starts when Lucy wakes upon a trail at Saint Osanna’s school with no memories of who she is, what her name is or even if she has a family. The only thing she does know is that she needs to get closer to the school and in particular closer to Colin, a student.

Ever since his family dies, Colin craves the danger. He is an adrenaline junkie and has no fear of dying, considering he has broken every bone in his body. But then Lucy appears. She’s nothing like he has ever seen. She seems ethereal, almost like a dream. He wants to get to know her better, to protect her but we can’t always have what we want.

When Colin helps Lucy discover who she really is, they both have to accept the consequences. You see, Lucy is dead. She has been for ten years, ever since she was brutally murdered by the former headmaster. So why is she back? What does she want from Colin? Is she his guardian of his lure?

I loved the writing, I really did. What I didn’t love was the fact that almost all of my questions remained unanswered, even after the book ended.

The book was quite captivating, with all the romance (it exists. It might be weird but still…) they fell in love almost from the beginning, the suspense was killing me and I really wanted to find out the answers to my questions. Although I didn’t, I have to say that the book was a page turner.

What I didn’t like was that we get no answers to many questions: why and how is Lucy back? Why does she feel so connected to Colin? Why him and not someone else? So many questions and no answer. It’s frustrating and left me pretty confused. I have no problem being confused while reading a book (since we usually get all the answers in the end) but in this case, the end created more questions.

Moreover, there was almost no action. While I didn’t mind that, since the suspense was killing me, it got a bit boring.

What also (kind of) bothered me was Colin’s desire to be with Lucy, even though she was a ghost. When he later finds out that near death experiences can bring them together, he has no problem putting himself in danger to be with her.

You will never see the end coming and when you do, it will be too late.

I can’t really recommend this book because I don’t know how I feel about it (mixed feelings). One thing is for sure: I did not, not like it but I wasn’t satisfied with all the explanations and definitely I wasn’t satisfied with the end.

  1. I have seen a few reviews for this book and most of them seem to be on the same level as yours! I love the idea of this novel and the cover as well, but I don't like the idea of unfinished questions. Not sure if I will pick it up or not!
