Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released.

Title: Ice Like Fire
Author: Sara Raasch

It’s been three months since the Winterians were freed and Spring’s king, Angra, disappeared—thanks largely to the help of Cordell.
Meira just wants her people to be safe. When Cordellan debt forces the Winterians to dig their mines for payment, they unearth something powerful and possibly dangerous: Primoria’s lost chasm of magic. Theron sees this find as an opportunity—with this much magic, the world can finally stand against threats like Angra. But Meira fears the danger the chasm poses—the last time the world had access to so much magic, it spawned the Decay. So when the king of Cordell orders the two on a mission across the kingdoms of Primoria to discover the chasm’s secrets, Meira plans to use the trip to garner support to keep the chasm shut and Winter safe—even if it means clashing with Theron. But can she do so without endangering the people she loves?
Mather just wants to be free. The horrors inflicted on the Winterians hang fresh and raw in Januari—leaving Winter vulnerable to Cordell’s growing oppression. When Meira leaves to search for allies, he decides to take Winter’s security into his own hands. Can he rebuild his broken kingdom and protect them from new threats?
As the web of power and deception weaves tighter, Theron fights for magic, Mather fights for freedom—and Meira starts to wonder if she should be fighting not just for Winter, but for the world.

Review: Fisher's Light by Tara Sivec

Title: Fisher's Light
Author: Tara Sivec
Series: None

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Fisher,
I guess this is it, huh? After fourteen years together, starting a life of our own on this island, five deployments and countless letters I’ve written you through it all, I finally go out to the mailbox and see something I’ve always dreamed of: an envelope with your handwriting on it. For one moment, I actually thought you’d changed your mind, that all the awful things you said to me were just your way of coping after everything you’d been through. I was still here, Fisher. I was still here, holding my breath, waiting for you to come back even though you told me you never would. You always said you’d find your way back to me. Out of all the lies you’ve told me, this one hurts the most.

Enclosed you will find the signed divorce papers, as requested.
I hope you find what you’re looking for. I’m sorry it wasn’t me.
Lucy

To get the ending they want, Lucy and Fisher will have to go back to the beginning. Through the good and the bad, they’ll be reminded of why they always made their way back to each other, and why this time, one way or another, it will be the last time.
My very first Tara Sivec book and I loved it.

Lucy and Fisher have been married for 14 years. They were high school sweethearts, each other’s first lovers and first everything. The love they shared was one of a kind. But in the 14 span and after 5 tours of duty for his country, Lucy and Fisher are no longer the people they used to be. More accurately, fisher is no longer the person he used to be, he has changed and not in a good way. Every time he came back after a tour, Fisher lost more and more pieces of himself and though she tried to help him, he always refused. Fisher finally erupted!

When I started reading Fisher and Lucy’s story I was so mad at both of them, Fisher for treating Lucy so horrible and thinking he was protecting her and Lucy for enduring his behavior. As I kept going, everything became clearer, Fisher was pushing her away to protect her from his rage and Lucy stayed because she had to help him heal. After 14 years of marriage they were still in love despite their problems.

Fisher’s light was a heartbreaking and yet breathtaking story. Fisher didn’t handle the situation as he should have and thus broke Lucy’s heart and their marriage. Lucy has done everything she could to make her marriage better. She endured loneliness, heartache and may insults. In her thirties she runs her own business, she’s independent and she’s no longer the woman Fisher left.

This book was brilliant. We follow Fisher and Lucy on their journey to heal their hearts and have a second chance in love but we also get to see glimpses of their past, we get to see how they met, how they fell in love, how they lived. But the book is focused on the present and their struggle to move one from the past and fix their mistakes.

Fisher and Lucy’s story was truly magnificent, full of heartache, emotion, inspiring, a second chance in love and a powerful bond. I’m so thankful I read it, it had been sitting in my tbr shelf for a while.

If you are in the mood for a good romance and a second chance in love then this book is for you.

Review: Archangel's Enigma (Guild Hunter #8) by Nalini Singh

Title: Archangel's Enigma
Author: Nalini Singh
Series: Guild Hunter #8

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
Naasir is the most feral of the powerful group of vampires and angels known as the Seven, his loyalty pledged to the Archangel Raphael. When rumors surface of a plot to murder the former Archangel of Persia, now lost in the Sleep of the Ancients, Naasir is dispatched to find him. For only he possesses the tracking skills required—those more common to predatory animals than to man.
Enlisted to accompany Naasir, Andromeda, a young angelic scholar with dangerous secrets, is fascinated by his nature—at once playful and brilliant, sensual and brutal. As they race to find the Sleeping archangel before it’s too late, Naasir will force her to question all she knows...and tempt her to walk into the magnificent, feral darkness of his world. But first they must survive an enemy vicious enough to shatter the greatest taboo of the angelic race and plunge the world into a screaming nightmare…
I have been (not so) patiently waiting for Naasir’s story. Ever since we met him, almost from the beginning of the series, I was curious about his origins. Who and what is Naasir really?

Naasir is one of Raphael’s seven and the best hunter there is. After thousands and thousands of years, Naasir has decided to look for his mate. He is tired of the loneliness and eager to experience what Raphael and Dmitri have with their mates, to share secret rules with her. So when Raphael asks him to find Alexander, Naasir’s search for his mate is put on hold. But finding Alexander won’t be as easy as it sounds and the only one who can help in his mission is Andromeda, an angelic scholar with as many secrets as him.

Archangel’s Enigma was everything I've been waiting and more. Naasir was the most perfect hero in the series. He wasn't civilized but he made an effort to appear, he was strong, a true hunter at heart, playful, secretive, he was truly an enigma. Nobody except Raphael and few others knew his origins so it was fun to watch Andromeda join the club along with Elena, Honor (Dmitri’s mate) and us. Thank God Singh takes pity on us and we finally get answers.

Andromeda was a unique character as well. She may have been a scholar but she was nothing like the average librarian. She was well trained, actually she was like a ninja with her sword, she had so many secrets, she was intelligent and she never backed down from an argument she knew she could win.

I loved the scene where Naasir firstly realized that Andromeda could be his mate. Naasir and Andromeda’s journey brought them closer but it also picked up the pace of the series. We finally see action, a lot of it. Two ancient archangels are awake and a new archangel is about to ascend.

We also got to see some scenes with Raphael and Elena, Jessamy and Galen, Dmitri and Honor, Venom, Illium and Aodhan. Expect a huge surprise coming regarding Illium.

I loved Archangel’s Enigma so much. I feel that the series is finally heading somewhere, it definitely progresses. I hope the next book will be either Illium or Venom’s book. I really want to read their stories and watch them get their HEAs.

This book is for all the series lovers.

Goodreads
Lo-Melkhiin killed three hundred girls before he came to her village, looking for a wife. When she sees the dust cloud on the horizon, she knows he has arrived. She knows he will want the loveliest girl: her sister. She vows she will not let her be next.
And so she is taken in her sister's place, and she believes death will soon follow. Lo-Melkhiin's court is a dangerous palace filled with pretty things: intricate statues with wretched eyes, exquisite threads to weave the most beautiful garments. She sees everything as if for the last time. But the first sun rises and sets, and she is not dead. Night after night, Lo-Melkhiin comes to her and listens to the stories she tells, and day after day she is awoken by the sunrise. Exploring the palace, she begins to unlock years of fear that have tormented and silenced a kingdom. Lo-Melkhiin was not always a cruel ruler. Something went wrong.
Far away, in their village, her sister is mourning. Through her pain, she calls upon the desert winds, conjuring a subtle unseen magic, and something besides death stirs the air.
Back at the palace, the words she speaks to Lo-Melkhiin every night are given a strange life of their own. Little things, at first: a dress from home, a vision of her sister. With each tale she spins, her power grows. Soon she dreams of bigger, more terrible magic: power enough to save a king, if she can put an end to the rule of a monster.

I'm sorry! It's Uni time...

You guessed right! It's that time when I have to get back to uni reading. I thought I would be able to balance my time between uni and my blog but I haven't been doing great and I'm sorry for that. I'm really going to try to schedule my posts, mostly my reviews which are the most time consuming posts, and hope that everything will work.

For a year now, I have been posting two reviews a week and 3 meme posts ( Top Ten Tuesday, Waiting on Wednesday and Stalking the Shelves) and I have found that having a routine is a win-win! Right now I'm not sure I'll be able to continue with two reviews a week so I might have to post one but I'm definitely going to keep the meme posts. I love them!

So that's the reason I've been gone for a while but I'm back. Also, I still haven't gotten my laptop and it's pretty difficult to keep up to date but in a week everything will go back to normal. Till then, please bear with me :)

Release Day Launch ~ Review: Abandoned and Unseen (Branded Packs #2) by Alexandra Ivy, Carrie Ann Ryan

Title: Abandoned and Unseen
Authors: Alexandra IvyCarrie Ann Ryan
Series: Branded Packs #2

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N

AbandonedWhen bear shifter, Anya Tucker fell in love with the wrong man, the only thing she left with was a broken heart—and her two bear cubs. Now she’s mended her wounds and learned that in order to raise her babies she can only trust herself. When her sons meet the lazy cat next door and fall heads over tails for him, she’ll do whatever she takes to protect them—even from a past she’d thought she’d left behind.
Cole McDermott is a jaguar on a mission. Long naps, a willing woman, and a full stomach is usually all he needs when it comes to relaxing after a long day of protecting his Pack. Then he meets Anya and the burn of temptation is silky and tantalizing indeed. When a horror from Anya’s past threatens everything she loves, Cole will put everything aside and fight for her family—as well as his own.
UnseenNicole Bradley had no reason to live after the humans murdered her son. Not until she learns to hunt down those responsible for his death. Shifting into her wolf form at night, she slips out of the compound, determined to do as much damage as possible. The last thing she expected was to discover secrets that could destroy the SAU.
Polar shifter, Tucker Stone, lives off the grid. It’s the only way the Unseen can avoid being rounded up by the humans and tossed into a compound. Besides, he’s a loner by nature. But he can’t walk away when he sees the pretty female wolf in danger. Risking exposure, he takes her to his hidden den and tries to heal her wounds.
Can a reclusive polar bear and a wolf with a death wish find happiness together?

Abandoned

After the SAU (Sifter Accommodation Unit) forced the Ursines, the Canines and the Felines to live together in one compound everyone knew that life was bound to become harder. No one understands that better than Anya Dare, a bear shifter and single mother to twin bear cubs, Owen and Lucas.

Anya already has a difficult time trying to keep up with the cubs especially since their favorite hobby is playing with the tail of a very lazy jaguar shifter, Cole McDermott. Cole realizes that he shouldn’t encourage the twin monsters play with his tail all day long but he misses children and he would never say no to them. What he can’t understand is why their mother Anya seems to hate him so much.

All their differences are pit aside when Anya’s cubs go missing and Cole will do anything to find them.

I loved how the attraction between Anya and Cole was there from the beginning, how Anya resisted the bond that knew they could have but at the moment her cubs are gone she becomes feral. She’s practically pulling at the jaguar’s tail to find her children and he’s more than willing to help this stubborn woman.

Unseen

This one is quite special since we get our very first glimpse at the Unseen pack.

Nicole Bradley lost her young son because of the SAU brutality. No one was held responsible for her son’s murder but Nicole never forgot the face of the man who destroyed her life. Nicole manages to leave the compound undetected so she can hunt the people responsible for her son’s death. The only thing she wasn’t counting on is the polar bear shifter determined to stop her.

Tucker Stone and his pack have been collecting evidence against the SAU for a very long time and he can’t let Nicole ruin their only chance to get justice. When he finds out about Nicole son he heart aches for the lovely woman who refuses to listen to reason. He wants her and he’s not shy to admit it.

Unseen was a great story and I really loved it. We get to see the Alpha of the Unseen Pack, Sinclair who with the help of a human woman, Mira uncover more SAU secrets. I was so intrigued. I want to read more about Sinclair and his plan but this was Nicole and Tucker’s story and I was happy for them. I do hope we see more of the Unseen pack though.

Abandoned and unseen were two great additions to the Branded series. Action, suspense, romance, bear and jaguar shifters and two incredible bear cubs. It had everything!

Review: Until Friday Night (The Field Party #1) by Abbi Glines

Title: Until Friday Night
Author: Abbi Glines
Series: The Field Party #1

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo
To everyone who knows him, West Ashby has always been that guy: the cocky, popular, way-too-handsome-for-his-own-good football god who led Lawton High to the state championships. But while West may be Big Man on Campus on the outside, on the inside he’s battling the grief that comes with watching his father slowly die of cancer.
Two years ago, Maggie Carleton’s life fell apart when her father murdered her mother. And after she told the police what happened, she stopped speaking and hasn’t spoken since. Even the move to Lawton, Alabama, couldn’t draw Maggie back out. So she stayed quiet, keeping her sorrow and her fractured heart hidden away.
As West’s pain becomes too much to handle, he knows he needs to talk to someone about his father—so in the dark shadows of a post-game party, he opens up to the one girl who he knows won’t tell anyone else.
West expected that talking about his dad would bring some relief, or at least a flood of emotions he couldn’t control. But he never expected the quiet new girl to reply, to reveal a pain even deeper than his own—or for them to form a connection so strong that he couldn’t ever let her go…
When I first found out that Abbi Glines was planning on releasing a new series I was over the moon. Until Friday Night was an incredible start to the field part series.

It’s been two years since Maggie witnessed her mother’s murder. Not wanting to relive the pain of that day, Maggie stops talking. After living two years with her godmother, Maggie is relocated to her uncle’s house. Her aunt Coralee always wanted a daughter and having Maggie closer makes her feel better. That’s why she makes Brady, her son and Maggie’s cousin, help her make friends. Maggie doesn’t want to be a burden to Brady but she can’t really complain.

Brady takes her to a party and that’s where she meets West. West has a lot of secrets but his friends know none of them. His father is dying of cancer and the only people who know are his mother, himself and now Maggie. Talking to Maggie helps him heal. No one understands his bond with Maggie but the two of them share a connection nether of them expected.

I think this is the first book by Abbi Glines in which I didn’t really like the male character. West wasn’t what I expected him to be. In the beginning he was full of rage and so mean to the girls around him but the more time he spent with Maggie the more peaceful he became. Maggie was awesome though. She endured so much but yet her inner strength was inspiring.

Until Friday night was an amazing start in the Field part series. Maggie and West were great characters with some flaws but still enjoyable. I hope we get to see Brady or Nash’s stories next.

If you love Gline’s other books then you’re surely going to love this one too.

Excerpt

First, he wasn’t going to shift because he’d be naked. And being naked near her when he had a hard-on—because, come on, she was freaking sexy—wasn’t worth risking his life after she got a look at him sporting wood because of her. Second, he wasn’t lazy, he just picked his battles. As for her boys? Next time, he might just send them back. She had a point when it came to safety. He would never hurt them—they were cubs—but there were human patrols coming through the compound at all times. He wouldn’t see those boys hurt because the humans were in the wrong. However, he wasn’t going to shift and tell her this. She didn’t want to hear it. She had her own reasons for being angry, he suspected, and him defending himself wouldn’t help. Instead, he swished his tail, his eyes on hers.

She lifted her lip in another snarl then threw up her hands. “I can’t with you.” She turned on her heel and stomped back toward her home. He couldn’t help but watch the way her jeans hugged her ass as she did so. She was one sexy blonde Amazon of a woman. Not for him, but it didn’t hurt to look.

“I see you’re making all kinds of friends,” Gibson drawled as he slid through the trees.

Cole had scented the wolf come up a few moments before but hadn’t let on to Anya. He wasn’t sure she’d noticed the man there since she’d been so focused on Cole. Plus, with all the new smells around her, he knew it would take a bit longer than a couple of weeks for her to get her bearings when it came to the different scents of the compound. He didn’t want to see her embarrassed for her outburst in public. And he didn’t know how he felt about that last thought. Instead of dwelling on it, he stretched, lifting his back in a curl before jumping down to the forest floor. With a shake, he shifted back to human. It was fast, a painful reminder that his body held two forms that didn’t quite mesh when one thought of the physics behind it.

“Get some pants on,” Gibson said smoothly. He ran a hand through his dark black hair that always ended up in his face. The damn man had one of those emo rocker haircuts that looked like it took an hour to get perfect each morning. Though Cole knew it just came naturally to the wolf. “You’re late for your appointment, and I don’t need to see your bare ass.”

“It’s a cat ass,” Cole said with a grin and shook it before bending over to grab the pair of sweats he’d left in a nearby bush.

“I so didn’t need to see that. I think I’m blind.”

Cole smiled wide as he slid his sweats over his hips. “You know you liked it.”

Title: A Study in Charlotte

The last thing sixteen-year-old Jamie Watson–writer and great-great-grandson of the John Watson–wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s enigmatic, fiercely independent great-great-granddaughter, who’s inherited not just his genius but also his vices, volatile temperament, and expertly hidden vulnerability. Charlotte has been the object of his fascination for as long as he can remember–but from the moment they meet, there’s a tense energy between them, and they seem more destined to be rivals than anything else.
Then a Sherringford student dies under suspicious circumstances ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Holmes stories, and Jamie and Charlotte become the prime suspects. Convinced they’re being framed, they must race against the police to conduct their own investigation. As danger mounts, it becomes clear that nowhere is safe and the only people they can trust are each other.
Equal parts tender, thrilling, and hilarious, A Study in Charlotte is the first in a trilogy brimming with wit and edge-of-the-seat suspense.

Kit and Noah’s rock star romance is finally here in the newest addition to Nalini Singh’s Rock Kiss Series!!

Releasing: October 6th

From New York Times bestselling author Nalini Singh comes the next contemporary romance in the Rock Kiss series...
Kit Devigny could have loved rock guitarist Noah St. John. Their friendship burned with the promise of intense passion and searing tenderness...until the night Noah deliberately shattered her heart.
Noah knows he destroyed something precious the night he chose to betray Kit, but he'd rather she hate him than learn his darkest secret. All he has left is his music. It's his saving grace, but it doesn't silence the voices that keep him up at night. Chasing oblivion through endless one-night-stands, he earns a few hours' sleep and his bad boy reputation.
When a media error sees Noah and Kit dubbed the new "it" couple, Kit discovers her chance at the role of a lifetime hinges on riding the media wave. Wanting--needing--to give Kit this, even if he can't give her everything, Noah agrees to play the adoring boyfriend. Only the illusion is suddenly too real, too painful, too beautiful...and it may be too late for the redemption of Noah St. John.
