After every shift, Falyn adds to her shoebox of cash, hoping to one day save enough to buy her a plane ticket to the only place she can find forgiveness: Eakins, Illinois.
The moment Taylor Maddox is seated in Falyn’s section at the Bucksaw, she knows he’s trouble. Review: Days of Throbbing Gristle by Kevin Cole

Title: Days of Throbbing Gristle
Author: Kevin Cole
Series: None

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | iBooks
Does Heaven know you're miserable now?
It’s 1987. Sam Henry Hay, a 17-year-old exchange student from Sheffield, hops into Texas, USA, with one burning ambition: Manipulate his gullible host parents into funding his university, and leave his dead-end life in Yorkshire behind.
But is Sam manipulating America or America manipulating Sam? The clever lad schmoozes his way into many a bed and purse, yet can’t get rid of anyone. He executes careful plans, only to watch them disastrously fall apart. Worst of all, this once proud nihilist watches in horror as he reveals a conscience, in a world growing ever darker around him.
Days of Throbbing Gristle is not your typical teenage tale. It’s a razor-slashing journey through a time and place that really was as bad as you’ve heard. For some, high school is the best time in their lives. For others, it’s a miracle they make it to the other side.
This is the first time I read a book by this author and I have to admit that I was impressed. The writing reminded me of some classics I have read although the author lives in our modern world.

Days of Throbbing Cristle takes us to a journey through time. We are in the 80s Texas where a young British boy named Sammy Hay travels all the way to US. Sam is an exchange student that has arrived in Texas with a plan. He won’t go back to his miserable life in England if he can help it. He plans to persuade his host family to provide the funds needed to complete his studies in a university in the US. It couldn’t be easier. Or so he thinks.

This was not at all what I expected to read. This isn’t some happy ending story just as Sam isn’t your typical teenager. He wants to appear strong, a bad-ass, a man who cares about nothing but himself but the truth is that Sam doesn’t know himself. It’s easy to “read” others but when it comes to figuring out yourself, that’s when things get complicated.

Sam believes that he has everything sorted out: his host family, the people surrounding him and mostly other teens. Sam mocks them but it’s among them that he finds the place he belongs. So even though things don’t go quite as planned it doesn’t matter because Sam has found where he belongs.

Sam was a mystery. He was the first to judge, to manipulate, to think the worst but all the while he had no idea who he really was. He wasn’t a bad guy. He wanted to seem like one but it wasn’t in him. He was just a 17-year-old on the verge of becoming an adult trying to survive this change that even today isn’t easy.

When I started reading it, I thought that this was going to be a self discovery journey. I wasn’t wrong but it turned out to be more than that. I really liked the book.

Totally recommended!

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine and is where we can talk about books we are looking forward to being released.

Title: A Sorceress of His Own
Author: Dianne Duvall
Expected publication: June 2nd 2015

Since the day Lord Dillon earned his spurs, rumors of his savagery on the battlefield have preceded him into every room, stilling tongues and sparking fear. Weary of battle, he wishes only to find a woman he can wed who will approach him not with fear, but with the tenderness that has been absent from his life for so long. Yet only the wisewoman seems invariably at ease in his presence. Perhaps because she garners the same fear in others that he does himself.
For seven years, Alyssa has been by Lord Dillon's side, counseling him from the shadows, healing him with her hands, and staving off the worst of his loneliness while his fearsome reputation keeps others at bay. Blessed--or cursed--with gifts that label her a sorceress, she is forced to conceal her youth and the love she harbors for him beneath umbral robes that lead Dillon and his people to believe she is the same aged wisewoman who served his father.
All is revealed, however, and passions flare when an enemy threatens Dillon's life and Alyssa sacrifices everything to save him. When Dillon discovers that the wisewoman is far from elderly, he is instantly entranced. And, as he and Alyssa work together to defeat an enemy bent on destroying them both, Dillon will risk anything--even the wrath of his king--to be with her.
I love the Immortal Guardians series and I cannot wait for this new one!!!

Review: Fall with Me (Wait for You #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Title: Fall with Me
Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout
Series: Wait for You #4

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.
Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.
But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.
That was just wow!

The 4th book in the Wait for you series tells the story of Roxy and Reese. We have met and loved both of them in the previous book, Stay with me (Calla and Jax’s story).

This was totally different from the other books in the series. A bit creepy/scary if you must but I loved it!

We have all wondered why Roxy was avoiding Reece, well the cat is out of the bag!

Roxy has been in love with Reece since she was 15 but knew that someone like him would never go for a girl like her. After a tragic accident changes her whole world she decides to stay away from him and concentrate on her future. Until a night changes everything. About eleven months ago Roxy and Reece had a “one-night” stand and when Reece made it clear that it was a mistake, Roxy did everything to stay away from him or just avoid him.

When strange things begin to occur to her house and Roxy suddenly feels threatened by the man who ruined her best friend’s life, Roxy needs Reece’s help. Reece may not remember what happened that night eleven months ago, he may wish it hadn’t happened but he knows that he will do everything to protect Roxy.

I love so much Jennifer Armentrout and her books! Fall with me was super incredible not only because of the cover but because for once the two main characters had feelings for each other since they were very young. Roxy was such a tormented character. She felt guilty for what had happened to her friend and all the while both her family and Reece were trying to convince her that it was an accident. I felt sorry for her and I was hoping she forgave herself. Reece was just amazing, always so patient, strong, determined. He brought out the best in Roxy. He tried to convince her to follow her dreams, to continue painting, to forgive herself.

Fall with me was very different from the other books in the series. Firstly, it was a bit creepy. Roxy thought that her house was haunted, that there was a ghost living with her but in reality there wasn’t a ghost but something even worse. There was a lot of suspense and action and of course the romance! The pages were on fire by these two. There was also a bittersweet end, which was a first for the series, but not for the reason you think.

Roxy and Reece’s journey was filled with twists, a challenging path but it was a path full of hope and that was what made it beautiful.

I highly recommend it!

Review: BROKEN (LOST #1) BY CYNTHIA EDEN

Title: Broken
Auhor: Cynthia Eden
Series: Lost #1

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Goodreads | Amazon | B&N | BookDepo

Ex-SEAL and LOST founder Gabe Spencer is accustomed to the unusual in his job. But when knockout Eve Gray steps into his office, he's rattled. For the mysterious woman is a dead ringer for the heiress thought to be the latest prey of the serial killer who goes by the name Lady Killer.
When Eve awoke in an Atlanta hospital, her past was a blank slate. Then she recognized her own face in the newspaper and vowed to learn the truth. Determined to confront the nightmares hidden in her mind, she never expects to find a partner in Gabe.
As Gabe and Eve work together, their explosive attraction becomes irresistible. Gabe knows that his desire for Eve is growing too strong, bordering on a dangerous obsession, but nothing pulls him away from her. And when another Eve lookalike disappears, Gabe vows to protect Eve at all costs. While Eve may have forgotten the killer in her past, it's clear he hasn't forgotten her
A new suspenseful romantic series filled with serial killers and a team who will do anything to find the lost ones.

Broken tells the story of Eve, our victim and Gabe, an ex-SEAL with a haunting past. Gabe is the owner of an organization called Lost. He and his team are experts in finding people who have been missing and Eve Gray may not be missing but she’s definitely lost. After waking up in the hospital with multiple injuries, Eve cannot remember anything even her real name.

When she comes across a photo of a woman that looks exactly like her in the newspaper, she knows that if there is someone who can help her, it’s Gabe. You see the woman in the newspaper is considered dead. She’s one of the Lady Killer’s victims. Only Eve isn’t dead, she’s alive. Gabe is shocked to realize that Eve might actually be who she claims to be. He’s suspicious but at the same time he can’t deny what he feels.

When the murders begin once again and more women are lost, Gabe knows that if Eve doesn’t remember her past, she will be next.

I definitely found what I was looking for. When I first read the blurb I was beyond excited and I didn’t lose my excitement while reading the book. It had a very intriguing and suspenseful plot, hot sexy romance, many awesome characters, a lot of twists and so much more. You will suspect everyone, I definitely did. No one is really innocent. Even Gabe’s team share dark pasts.

I loved so much Dean, Wade, Sarah and Victoria. I’m sure that they will all be getting their stories and I really can’t wait. They were such an incredible team. We get a bit of everyone’s background. They may all be quite different but what the team has in common is the demons of their pasts.

What I also loved was the fact that the main plot, Eve’s past wasn’t “overshadowed” by the romance. In fact, I think this was the first book I read by Eden in which I didn’t care as much about the romance as I did with the killer’s identity. I read as fast as I could just to find out who the killer was and once it was revealed my heart was racing so fast for Eve and Gabe.

Eve and Gabe’s story was an incredible beginning to the Lost series. The only reason I’m not giving the book 5 stars is because a) Even and Gabe’s relationship developed too early and progressed too fast and b) how can someone who has suffered as much as Eve has be so blunt about her emotions?! Apart from these little problems, I had no other major issues with the book.

Another stunning read by Eden! I’m a huge fan but I’m always impressed by her books. You can’t go wrong with this author.

Highly recommended!

Excerpt

BROKEN by Cynthia Eden – Excerpt

“Do you think I’m a con artist or a victim?”

“I think you’re a woman who has been hurt.” No denying that. “One of my team members, Wade Monroe, is contacting the Montgomery family. We’ll get DNA from them and find out—”

“If I’m Jessica.” There was hope in the words. Enough hope to break his heart.

Gabe nodded.

“When will we know?”

It would take a few days, even with the strings that he could pull. “As soon as possible,” he said, not wanting to give her a specific timetable.

“Thank you.” Then, just like that, she was across the car, giving him a tight hug. “Thank you.”

His arms wrapped around her, an instinctive response. She smelled faintly of flowers, a sweet scent that teased his nose, and her body was soft against his.

She tried to pull away, as if realizing what she’d just done.

For an instant he was tempted to hold her, to keep her close.

She’s a client. Focus.

He let her go, but his body ached.

“I … um … I should get inside.”

Yes, she should. While he was still clutching tight to his control. The control that said he shouldn’t push her. Shouldn’t want her so much. Not when she’d already been hurt so badly.

Her fingers reached for the door.

“Let me,” he said, voice rumbling, and Gabe climbed from the Jag. In seconds he was on the passenger side, opening her door for her. She rose, and her body brushed against his.

He stepped back. Distance. He seriously needed to put some distance between then. But even with some fast steps back, he could still smell that light and sexy scent that clung to her body. And he still wanted her.

“Your shrink asked me a lot of questions about you,” Eve told him as she stood temptingly close.

Gabe inclined his head. “I’m sure—”

“I think she wanted to know why I respond so much to you.”

Oh, hell, she’d just said … He cleared his throat even as part of his body surged in quick response to her. “It’s a tense situation, you’re—”

“You don’t look at me as if I’m a victim.”

He stopped talking.

“I mean, you know what I am, but you still look at me and seem to just see me … as a woman.”

“Others see you the same way.” Doc Tyler sure did. Bastard.

“It’s different with you,” she murmured as she stepped even closer to him. Her head had tilted back so she could look into his eyes. “I don’t know what I’ve felt for other men before.”

Why did the idea of others have his body knotting with tension?

“But I know that when I see you, I want.” A hushed confession. “I just … I needed to tell you that.”

And he needed to make his self-control a hell of a lot stronger. Her lips were just inches from his, and he wanted her mouth beneath his. Wanted her lips open. Needed to taste her.

“You’re the first man I’ve wanted since I opened my eyes in that hospital.”

He could actually feel his control splintering. Client. Cli—

“You probably don’t want me. I—I might not be your type.”

Now her gaze had fallen, as if in embarrassment. Had she really just asked if she was his type? She was probably every damn man’s type.

“But you make me feel normal again, so I had to tell you—”

His fingers curved under her chin. “Eve …”

Her smile was a little too big. Too bright. “I don’t think I can handle anything else right now, I’m …” She pulled away. Stumbled onto the sidewalk. “I just wanted to tell you how I felt,” she told him again.

Then she walked into the shelter, her steps hurried. As if she were running.

From him.

He stared after her. She wanted him.

And she was so fucking beyond his reach.

She feels so connected to him and safe but how can she trust him?

Is it too late? Dax won’t give up and especially now that Hannah’s life if in danger once more. He’s willing to do anything to keep her safe and earn he trust.

Whew! That was quite a journey! Action packed, full of suspense and romance Chasing Danger will keep you at the edge of your seat.

This is a novella so I can’t really complain about the length. I don’t actually have anything to complain about. Hannah was a strong, young woman, who despite her not so easy past managed to fulfill her dreams whilst Dax was such an alpha male. Protective, determined, willing to do whatever it takes to protect what’s his. At the same time though, he was really sweet and funny. The chemistry between them was exploding and they shared a special bond.

I just wish the book was a bit longer. Hannah and Dax were an amazing couple and I really fell for them.

Totally recommended!

I feel sooo lucky to have read When Darkness Ends earlier. As far as I know this is the last book in the series and it makes me so sad to let that series go. Guardians of Eternity series was one of the first series I read as a "bookworm" and it's very special to me!

Anyway, I loved most of the books I read this week and I'm planning on reviewing them all so stick around :)

Years ago, golden-boy Kyle Archer left Ribbon Ridge without a word. Now, with heartbreak on the verge of tearing his family apart, the black sheep is back and he’s determined to earn their trust by uncovering the truth behind Alex’s death. But the moment he confronts Maggie Trent—the therapist his parents blame for the tragedy—Kyle is stunned by his powerful attraction to the beautiful doctor… and drawn to her like no woman he’s ever met before.

When gorgeous, charismatic Kyle approaches Maggie about his brother’s death, she agrees to help him search for answers. And as they piece together Alex’s last days, their undeniable chemistry turns too hot to ignore. After their relationship becomes more serious than either anticipated, Kyle may be forced to choose between the woman he’s desperate to hold on to and the family he almost let slip away.
This is the first book I read by Darcy Burke and it was amazing!

Yours to hold tells the story of Kyle Archer and Maggie Trent, Kyle’s brother’s therapist.

The Archers blame Maggie for Alex’s death but Kyle isn’t the one to point fingers. Having just returned to Ribbon Ridge after many years, he’s determined to find out what led to Alex’s death. What he never expected was to have to deal with the extraordinary beautiful doctor. Maggie wants to help Kyle and she will do anything to make sure that they learn the truth. When their attraction turns into something more, Kyle will have to choose between the woman he has come to care about and the family he left behind.

A truly beautiful read! Since this was the first book I read by this author I was a bit confused in the beginning with the background story but worry not, the author explains everything. Yours to hold was a very realistic emotional book about a family, the Archers, who may not be a perfect family but there is so much love between them. In my opinion, no family is perfect. Every family has secrets.

Kyle and Maggie were amazing. After Alex’s death, the family was devastated and they were all even Kyle looking for someone to blame. That person was Maggie. Kyle though soon realized that she wasn’t the one to blame and a deeper bond formed between them. I loved the way their relationship developed and progressed.

But there was a lot of pressure too. Kyle couldn’t have both his family and Maggie. The Archers blamed her for their son’s death and Kyle knew that. There was of course the fact that Kyle had a few secrets of his own.

It was a pretty moving book. You can’t help yourself and feel the agony of the family and Kyle’s determination and stubbornness to uncover the truth. What I also loved were the letters Alex left behind for his family. So emotional.

I loved reading this book and I can’t wait to read the previous and the following one!

Totally recommended!

We're celebrating the release of WHEN I'M GONE by New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Abbi Glines!

TitleWhen I'm Gone (Rosemary Beach)
Author: Abbi Glines
Publisher: Atria Books (April 7, 2015)

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines comes the next new adult novel in the Rosemary Beach series, in which we meet Mase, a Texas heartthrob first introduced in Take a Chance who comes to Rosemary Beach to stir things up.
I had an urge to fix all her problems. Which was stupid. She was doing fine without me. But something about those big eyes…

Mase Colt-Manning has always preferred his humble life as a Texas rancher to his birthright as the son of a legendary rock star. In fact, he rarely visits his father’s rarefied world in Rosemary Beach, especially if it means bunking at his vile half-sister Nan’s house—until one visit leads to a chance encounter with a young, gorgeous house maid who awakens him with her off-key but spirited imitation of a country music star…

Reese Ellis finally has her freedom. After escaping a lifetime of abuse from her parents and classmates for an undiagnosed learning disorder, she seizes the opportunity to be a house maid to some of the richest families in Rosemary Beach. But her job is in jeopardy when she causes an accident at the home of her most important client, Nan Dillon. When a hot, half-naked stranger with a cowboy’s swagger comes to her rescue, she’s intrigued—then afraid once he shows his own interest. Reese has never met a trustworthy man in her life. Will Mase be any different?

About the Author:
Abbi Glines is a #1 New York TimesUSA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author of the Rosemary Beach, Sea Breeze, Vincent Boys, and Existence series. She has a new YA series coming out in the fall of 2015 titled The Field Party Series . She never cooks unless baking during the Christmas holiday counts. She believes in ghosts and has a habit of asking people if their house is haunted before she goes in it. She drinks afternoon tea because she wants to be British but alas she was born in Alabama. When asked how many books she has written she has to stop and count on her fingers. When she’s not locked away writing, she is reading, shopping (major shoe and purse addiction), sneaking off to the movies alone, and listening to the drama in her teenagers lives while making mental notes on the good stuff to use later. Don’t judge.

You can connect with Abbi online in several different ways. She uses social media to procrastinate.
